This is to happen. But which is good can never be neglected soon. Within one or three year I think bitcoin will reach at a good position and it will be more popular. But for a new currency that’s quiet hard to compete with.

I don't think  there is chances for something better to other coin to replaced BTC, as far as I know it's still Bitcoin is incredibly well even on its downfall.

Well i hope that there could be no more competition for BTC or another something new that has come from a different owner because this might cause conflict and trouble and there will be competition and once this happen the result is that our investment will be put to danger for example now we had invested for the current price and if there is something new that market price will go down and so does the value of the crypto we had invested and that is not good hear about that could also end of BTC.

Bitcoin was first to market. It will take something to go seriously wrong with it for another coin to take number one spot.

Bitcoin is irreplaceable. It offer something good to the market. No matter how many coins will arrive, still take the number one spot.

People who make the Myspace/ Facebook comparison are a little off the mark. They're just free platforms that people can jump between on a whim.

Large amounts of money have already been put into Bitcoin and that's only going to become larger. That makes people more conservative.

I could see Bitcoin being overtaken while it's still a minnow but 2014 might be the start of it becoming a force. My guess is that for it to happen it would need to be sooner rather than later and there's nothing on the horizon yet.

Though there’s a little probability. It would not be easy for bitcoin to be replaced by any digital currency. If the replacement is too good where prices are high and stable but I don’t think there is such thing especially in business like this.
If we're going to talk about that topic at this very moment then I should tell you my friend that the chances are very slim. The very reason why I said that is because of the support that bitcoin is continuously getting. Maybe soon the time will come for that to happen but for now as long as bitcoin is being used then it will be number one for a long time.

Only time will tell if bitcoin is going to be replaced but this moment we should cherish and make the most out of it. We all know that bitcoin is about to fall down as nunber one someday and there's a big chance for that once people get tired of this. Well today is not yet the right time for bitcoin to go down because it is still strong.

The more publicity cryptocurrency gains, the more unique applications oDCthe blockchain technology are introduced.
With the volatility and unpredictability is the market, I think it is probable that the future begats better things.

What is the better cryptocurrency that you want to replace bitcoin with? In terms of market size, adoption, community etc, bitcoin still takes the first place. We may not find such cryptocurrency that will replace bitcoin anytime soon.

It will take a lot for something (coin) to replace Bitcoin. Bitcoin may have its flaws as with other coins but it has remained dominant because many people only came to know about cryptocurrency because of Bitcoin. People have a lot of trust in it.

BItcoin works and it's easy to be a winner while some altcoin may be worth a decent amount, or Bitcoin fails and all altcoins will pretty much fall with it. if they accept cryptocurrency it will be the first bitcoin, and as more and more retailers start receiving bitcoin, it strengthens its position even more. and if Bitcoin fails, confidence will be lost for all other crypto. No other way crypto will only go beyond bitcoin.
Yes bitcoin was still ahead ampng others because it was one the best cryptocurrency that was developed in many thing. But to answer the question, I think bitcoin will lose it popularity when there something better than it and it will be worthless because people will focus on that new coin.

"Soon" would be in the next 1-3 years or so.

One of the biggest dangers for BTC is something more useful coming along and investors switching - a process which could happen extremely fast, once started.

So to all the tech savy people in here - what advantages could other cryptocurrencies bring that will give them a crucial edge over BTC, and how fast could something like that come along?

If we look at the period of 1 to 3 year ahead, I think there will be no one to replace the BTC. But generally I think that sooner or later BTC will be replaced because at the moment its price depends only on the investor's interest and there is not much improvement. If I have to guess who can replace the BTC, that may be Ethereum I think.  Huh

It will be hard for a coin to surpass bitcoin because bitcoin is the founder of all virtual currency , but to answer your question , bitcoin's value or the value of any other coin is based on the volume of investors, no matter how high the supply is if there is a huge volume of investors it will or might surpass bitcoin . The most important thing for a coin to be able to surpass bitcoin is to have a better or stronger reputation than bitcoin because reputation is the most important thing in investor.
yes that is right, bitcoin is the still the best currency  of the world and will remain number one forever. people still believe on bitcoin and therefore they like to invest money in bitcoin i that is the reason that will will continue becoming the number one currency of the world.

BITDEPOSITARY - Make ICO's , More Secure
for me. I don’t think something greater than BTC will come sooner. Everything that we’re looking for in an alternative currency can be found in bitcoin. everything that we’re looking for in an alternative currency can be found in bitcoin. Now that most of online casinos and other business owners are starting to accept it, I don’t think they will accept new one soon, if ever there will be.
Not soon but in the future. I think that other coins existing now cannot replace bitcoin, because all of them are created based on bitcoin. If someone created another coins but not based on bitcoin, I think that coin have the ability to replace bitcoin. As we can see, today's technology is upgrading fast, so its possible that in the future, someone might create better crypto currency than bitcoin, and it can caused bitcoin to be replaced by that coin, bitcoin might die.

Bitcoin is an unmistakable case of the chicken and Egg puzzle. There is as of now about $12 billion put into the stage of Bitcoin. A large number of traders are tolerating it, and it has relatively gone standard from an "I caught wind of it" outlook. The structure is building, and that is something none of these different coins will rd. You never knew about a noteworthy retailer tolerating another coin. That is on account of if they somehow managed to acknowledge a digital currency it would be BTC to begin with, and as an ever increasing number of retailers begin tolerating BTC it reinforces its position considerably more.

While this is too early to discuss. Bitcoin can still remedy the situation and soon begin to grow well in price. If this happens, investors will again invest in it and the market will revive. Of course, the crypto-currency market is quite unpredictable. Therefore, there may also be a situation that bitcoin after some time will give up its leader's place to another, more successful crypto currency. Tragedies of this do not also worth it. That's the market for the strongest to survive.

It just that bitcoin has totally dominated the cryptocurrencies world and it's going to be difficult to unseat it from the summit especially since most of the bitcoin investors are also investing in  altcoin but on a lower scale and therefore believe in diversifying their investment i think it will be difficult for them to leave bitcoin for another unless they are withdrawing totally from cryptocurrencies.
