I've used Firefox forever, but recently downloaded Chrome. It's annoying getting used to the differences, but it does seem lighter (less memory usage), so that's a huge plus.

Yeah I jumped ship from Firefox to Chrome, maybe 18 months ago and haven't looked back since.
As long as you can stand the horrible UI it's ok.

I used to use Firefox for a while but these days I've been using Chrome and I'm pretty happy with it overall. No complaints thus far. The automatic updating is probably the nicest feature considering how much time it saves you.

I used firefox from 2004 to 2009 and then switch to chrome, essentially for speed reason.
Today, i use chrome both on my work computer and on my smartphone and i am very happy to share my bookmarks between both.

Firefox for few years already, but can anyone recommend good addons to make it eat less memory?
Adblock is all you need.

I recommend also using ghostery in firefox.

As far as I know Addons make it slower as they consume extra Memory..! But there are few addons that can improve the speed these addons may include
Adblock Plus lets you block ads on websites.
NoScript To avoid Unnecessary Scripts
These two will help you in getting rid ads and scripts and make the webpage load faster.
Make sure you are not using any Themes , unwanted Plugins and Stay Updated to latest version.

I agree, but I would also add: making sure that the flash plugin is set to "ask to activate" (and probably most/all other plugins as well). This means that flash isn't automatically loaded and starts running on its own; you have to confirm that you want that behavior for the page you're in (which is basically just clicking a button).
