As far as I know Addons make it slower as they consume extra Memory..! But there are few addons that can improve the speed these addons may include Adblock Plus lets you block ads on websites.
NoScript To avoid Unnecessary Scripts
These two will help you in getting rid ads and scripts and make the webpage load faster.
Make sure you are not using any Themes , unwanted Plugins and Stay Updated to latest version.
I use Chrome and Firefox.

Firefox is the best browser in terms of... everything! If you need some change and don't give a shit about privacy chrome is acceptable!

Firefox and occasionally IE. Chrome only to grab deals or with pages that won't load on other 2.

i use firefox with some modding to increase speed and reduce memory size
Using google chrome at the moment.. I dont think any other browser has better speed.
