Ethereum, NEO, Litecoin, Monero, Vechain, Waltonchain.
Consider investing in the biggest currencies. $1000 is a good price for starting and you can think about investing in ethereum or bitcoin
If you're willing to take a lot of risk for very very high rewards, you should look into Devery (EVE). It currently has a tiny market cap, but MainNet is already done. Also they have a partnership with JD.com, a giant retailer (3rd worldwide I believe).
I think that with the current prices for crypto-currencies it is very difficult now to talk about what you can buy and what you can not, I think that you can buy everything today, you just need to choose the right project that is not so easy to choose.
I think that NEO is a very good option, because the coin is volatile and quite promising. I would buy for a year, and maybe more
i put my 1k in the recent dip into 40% litecoin 30% eth 20%ripple 10% sia hopefully markets go up now would like to invest in btc but its too high to get a return with low amounts so staying away from it these days

Great, you have entered the market at the right time. If you really want to be very profitable then start investing into the undervalued coins like ADA, XRP, NEM, IOTA and SCL, JNT etc. This is long list and you should do just fine with them. Considering the high valued coins you can always trust the ETH in this regard and upto some extent you can own NEO coin too. This portfolio would be just fine for yourself to get started with crypto currencies this year. The market is already dropped a lot and whatever trade values you will see currently are dropped values and thus makes it sure that they will spike in the time to come.

The first and most important thing is your experience in trading. If you are a newbie and do not particularly understand the trends in the market, then definitely not worth investing in one coin, at least 2.
market is very nice now for buying anything. just check the ones in top 20 @ coinmarketcap and invest the one that you like most. if market turns to bullish again, you may make a very nice profit in a very short time period. good luck.
Buy minimum 2 different coins, and in my opinion all coins in top 10 ranking in Coinmarketcap is very good option, and if you would like to chooce 2 different coins only, XLM and NEO has most strong fundamental and has potential to continue growing.

First you should do a research about many coins. Find which is the leading ICOs and read about their project and If you have a hypothesis that their project will be a success. Then go for it. But Please do a deep research so that you won't lose your money.
