HODL - is to keep, this word became popular after a mistake on some forum. Crypto community has picked up this word and is now using it. :
HODL is derived from a misspelling of "hold" which means buy-and-hold strategies in the context of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

To me, it means investing in a project, setting goals at a specific ROI in either ETH or USD, holding till the price meets the goal and then sell. Sometimes I set different price levels for different percentages to sell.
Hodl=hold
If tou are taking an exam you should spell it hold. But if you are using it for personal assets you can spell it either way

When typing fast the letters “L” and “D” in “hold” may be changed b mistake. This is now a new crypto-related word hodl appeared. So you were right with your assumptions.
HODL means Hold on Dear Life it means that you should hodl your coin if it is for a long term goal and it will give you more profits.
I mean that I bought some altcoins and will hold them in my portfolio for 6-12 months. Nothing can change my decision, even bad or excellent market conditions. After that perion of time I decide what to do the next.

HODL has deeper meaning in the world of cryptography. It means more than just holding. It means deeper belief in bitcoin. I think it's stupid to keep HODL on altcoin.
To be honest, hodl is just a typo of the "hold" term, there is nothing special about it. Hodl means holding, we just adopted its slang term because it is kind a cool. And I disagree to your opinion that holding an altcoin is stupid, it is you who are stupid, HODLING every coins you have right now and selling it in the right time means profits in the next pump.
I admit that when I first saw the word "HODL" I was really wondering what it was. Is it just a typo error or it has a different meaning in crypto? A thought came that whoever started this word, definitely he/she's from another nationality. Because we all know that Americans are very fluent in English and do perfect in spelling. By constant reading in different forum, I realized, it wasn't a mis-spelled. It has a very important meaning . It is a very important reminder which we have to consider, So, I therefore conclude that "HODL" means HOLD for a great SUCCESS.

A strategy I always tell the newest in cryptocurrency is "buy and hold". The longer you plan to hold a cryptocurrency, the more risk you face. Unless there is an unfortunate indicator of what is going on behind a cryptocurrency, then you have to make a decision to cut loss (sell it). Can anyone clarify what this term means? I don't know where the word HODL starts from but that is obviously a typo error for the word HOLD. Maybe because a lot of Cryptotraders lacks sleep they tend to mispell the world HOLD. And that's what I think the term HODL starts

this is easy, but it seems like your understanding of English is very bad. HOLD is your asset's hold, as you say, do not sell your token or altcoin when the price goes down. wait until the new high rise price you can sell or trade. this is a simple example

The term hold or hodl are same in meaning.I would explain under what circumstances you should HODL your investment.
Market is drastically under dip and you know that if you wanna sell you can not cover even your buying value,so HODL your investment.
When market is very low but you know that your coins have great aptitude to grow in price in future,hold your investment.
It's the same as HOLD aka holding. You keep a coin for a while, deciding not to sell coins for a while in hopes of getting more profit.
It's simple , this term means that you should not sell your coins and should expect some time that the price would have increased several times
To HODL simply means not to sell your crypto and keep them for better pricing in future, Its just Holding , but used in a reverted way as a mantra
for me its the same as holding which mean you need to hold your token depend of price go up and patient is the key
It is just the same as holding and hold is the most widely used in the forum. And basically, hold your coin savings for the future, and sell for a good price. But do not throw it away.
HODL is a mantra that recommends that as high as any Bitcoin price now, do not be careless.
I don't know how did mantra came in to this discussion that points out about HODLING.This is where it all started, the legendary says - "I AM HODLING"
