Ethereum coin is obe of my favorite coin and I think once bitcoin die . This coin will become numbwr 1 and many investor invest to this coin so the price for sure will increase . And to those people have ethereum and hd it for few years for sure they earn a lot of profit because i nelieve the price of ethereum after few years maybe around thousands of dollars price . Buy more ethereum now and make more profit.
You can see when the system of Bitcoin have problem, the price of Ethereum still decreasing, why? Because Bitcoin is the KING on cryptoworld, and Ethereum just is soldier, it can't alive when the KING died, so don't think Ethereum can replace Bitcoin in this time.

Bitcoin and Ethereum are two different things as per their intended purpose. If Ethereum will surpass BTC, that is because ETH is technology and not just currency. It will be a long time before that happens, but who knows?
They are really different things since they do really have different aims but they are just the same which is cryptocurrency but talking about surpassing BTC so fast wont be possible as of todays. If people would plan to switch  in Eth and Leave Bitcoin then thats the time that ETH would really be the number 1 coin already on the cryptoworld but knowing it would be impossible as of these days.

Ethereum will never be the #1 coin.
Then, it'll never happend anything.
Ethereum is still, and for allways, the "buggy coin", the DAO disaster and so on...

I agree eth is only for investing, so pump and dump
I also agree with you. Eth is just good for minor investments. It can never ever be the number one digital coin until and unless bitcoins are there in the crypto kingdom. Besides eth has just started its journey. It needs a lot of improvements and hard works to compete with bitcoins.

ETH will overtake BTC. Surely this is now inevitable. The way it's going it could be a few days away. At the most a few months, and certainly by the end of the year.

Taking this as a given, what will happen to crypto in general? I expect a fair amount of mainstream articles mentioning how Bitcoin has been surpassed, and how if you'd spent $x on ETH at a certain point, you'd now have millions. I'd expect this in turn to lead to greater mainstream interest in crypto in general, and permanent price jumps across a range of coins.

I'd say ICOs would get more feverish too, but these are already pretty insane.

NoW BTC is back So Eth will be steady but it might be back to 0.2 by the Nov of 2017

every one must keep Eth to have good profit

Who knows. Maybe not eth but sooner or later some other coin will be #1. Bitcoin was only the try for beginning. It was a nice try and working pretty well. But as i mentioned it will not live forever sooner or later a faster and more developped one will take btcs place.

If ETH becomes altcoin number 1 then the second revolution will take place after Bitcoin. I think this will probably happen because in just one year ETH has a very high price and the number of people investing in this altcoin is huge, especially in ICO projects.

If ethereum became the #1 coin it would be called the "flippening" and tons of ethereum owners would be out purchasing Lamborghini cars lol!

However with raiden being delayed, I don't see it happening at least this year.

Can you tell me when you try to cash out some money which cryptocurrency you use ?

I would use bitcoin Smiley

The thread was supposed to be speculation about what would happen to the wider crypto market when (okay, if) ETH surpasses BTC in marketcap. Appreciate the title could be considered slightly inflammatory though.

Yes, I don't think ETH would ever become the sort of gateway coin that BTC is. BTC and ETH each have their own strengths, I don't see them as competitors to one another.

Mark My word ETH will be Next King IF if if .... Bitcoin Split then for sure ETH will take over position of Bitcoin
No one ever knew when but i can say one thing this could be happened soon !!! Just Chilled  Grin
I disagree, if bitcoin split and supposing that made a lot of damage to the image of bitcoin and it never recovered, the next in line is not Ethereum, the next in line is Litecoin, which is basically bitcoin with segwit activated already so we will continue as usual except that the name of the coin most people support will change slightly, Ethereum is a good technology but it is not a currency.
Why next subjects is Litecoin? I know Litecoin is version 2.0 of Bitcoin and it just have mission PR, support or testing SegWit helps Bitcoin. Ethereum really best choice after Bitcoin SegWit2x and get some error
There are several reasons.
1 Litecoin is an old coin so people trust it because of it.
2 Litecoin is basically bitcoin with segwit activated so we can avoid all the drama of the activation and a split.
3 If I remember correctly some devs of bitcoin core have stated that they will move to litecoin if segwit was not activated on bitcoin.

Don’t get me wrong ETH is a good crypto but it is not a currency in my mind and as such it cannot perform the same functions as bitcoin did.

either a) wont happen b) happens way down the road but only by marketcap.

so if b) does happen who cares. BTC will still be valued wayy higher in $ per coin

This. I just don't see ETH overtaking Bitcoin in price. Marketcap sure. But the price per coin will not be close for at least a very long time. Eth is growing, that's a given. But I don't see it overtaking bitcoin any time soon.

And eth has more way to go before it can level nor surpass bitcoin.
Eth is the top alternative currency but bitcoin is the no. 1 crypto currency.
They're are too far different from each other from peer to peer to open source block chain down to their own value.

Not gonna happens till the next 3-5 years as eth is nothing in front of bitcoin it has had a good increase this year but that's only of 300$ while bitcoin has increased by more than 1200$ and recent hacks on eth led to a further drop in price because investors now trust bitcoin more than eth. All the ico things are fun with eth but holding few eth won't really hurt much.

I do not know what will happen, however, I am sure ETH can not bypass the bitcoin, its power is not enough to compete with bitcoin, it is still a fledgling currency and it carries gaps in security.

As mentioned, Ethereum is a platform and technology, and it is not competing with Bitcoin.

I really support Ethereum and I don't think it really matters which one has the biggest market cap, for me both are undervalued right now.

Bitcoin is being accepted in more and more places and in some countries, including mine (Brazil) it is still the only way to enter the crypto world (meaning that I still can't trade my local fiat currency directly to ETH yet in Brazilian exchanges, I need to buy BTC first and then trade it for ETH), but as an investment and technology I prefer Ethereum.
