The profit will always be in percentage. If the investment is small you will not earn much. There is no right amount for investing

For me I follow a simple rule which I learned from this forum and that is to invest what you can afford to lose. I only invest on what I think is okay if I don't earn profit from it or lose it all. I do go overboard that certain cap because I am not that successful yet. Maybe if I become more successful then I might raise the cap a little bit.
