I believe we do not need to think big. Just having a signature and twitter campaign in this forum will be doing all the needed job in couple of simple steps. Having a manager and asking them to start these campaign will be more than enough for marketing any new crypto into this crypto community.
It really isn't enough to market through social media and signature campaigns but that will add as part of one best marketing for any new crypto.But spreading all across different borders and platforms where there are so many people using it.

There are projects that were very well in their road maps but suddenly it turned out as copied. 
Better to promote in different ways like campaign with social site here in forum,in trading site,in faucets and in many wallets then of course if your page is popular and your a trusted users already here in crypto that's will become popular and trusted too all you need to do is be real then try all ways here so find many popular users here in forum to help you then create a worth it plan for your project to become success in the future i think you need a lot of money still atleast you try

All these will be easily covered up through a bounty program. Yes, that is the reason almost all the new ICOs are focusing on having a large bounty program. Basically to reach more number of crypto users, signature campaign will be very effective. What I've noticed is the growth of advertisers that are putting their ICO on the ICO review list website and pay for the good review.
This is a deceitful tactic which makes your ICO unreliable, I hope you are not going to do this one. If your ICO is helpful and your token will be usable in some services, a simple way of normal advertising that are listed above shall be enough.

I'll be brutally honest. This space is already over crowded with too many coins. The competition for new projects is extremely high. Unless you are willing to spend a lot of capital on marketing you will most likely not get anywhere.

Simply place a bounty program here and give more allocation to the signature bountry program ... and bounty hunters will take care the rest .. i believe that there is no point in placing ads in google absence nowadays ..

Honestly marketing cryptos needs more dedication than when the time you are planning it. Proper execution is a must and accept that it will be a difficult way. Sometimes you need to spend big money on it even without an assurance that it will be paid off. Goodluck anyways.
Most of the ICOs will fail this year. If you want to run a successful ICO make sure you come up with a unique idea with an MVP. People nowadays invests in projects with working product only. Also make sure you make good partners. You can do advertising on ICO review sites like ICOdrops, icobench etc. Do a small Airdrop for bringing some attention etc.

There is not a step by step guide out there to help you with this, but if you put attention you can see many avenues where people are marketing cryptocurrencies, you will see that many coins have an ANN thread in this forum simply because it is the most popular forum about bitcoin and altcoins in the Internet, then you need to create a social media presence in Facebook, reddit, and other sites you also need to create a website with all the necessary information about your project including the whitepaper and the name of and pictures of all the developers, and all of that is probably just the beginning.
In my opinion the best advertisements are through believable sources. Random posts on crypto forums, people talking about the coin. The coins you see advertised non-stop everywhere you go are scary to me, and I assume many others. However, when I see a couple people talking about a coin I definitely go looking into it.
