First, you should consider moving this topic to Bitcoin Discussion:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=1.0Regarding your topic, I've really got two critical moments:
First, I gave a loan to an old co-worker back in 2010, and when he paid me back (late 2011), he also emailed me a private key to a bitcoin address with around $1,000 worth of Bitcoin that he gave me as a "bonus interest payment" for my loan. I had no idea what Bitcoin was at the time, so I didn't think anything of it. But when the first spike happened, I remembered that he had sent me the bitcoin, so I went to retrieve the email only to find that my email address had been purged because I no longer worked for the company. I contacted my friend to see if he had a copy of the sent email, and his email address was also purged after having left the company. I contacted some acquaintances in the IT department of the company, and because of a recent merger, they changed the way that they handled the email domains, and permanently purged all email addresses of employees that no longer work at the company. So yeah, I lost out on millions of dollars worth of Bitcoin.
Secondly, I sold my Nano (formerly RaiBlocks) last year at $0.05 each. I made a pretty profit on the deal for the 150,000+ XRB that I paid "miners" to claim. Well, in January, the 150K+ XRB was worth over $5m USD. The worst part is that I went against my golden rule of hodling any cryto that I believe in and that I find has a good value and base of service. The only solace I find in this whole situation is that given the recent hack on BitGrail, I would probably have been one of the ones affected by it anyways
Moral of the story? HODL HODL HODL lol
Thanks for sharing your stories, that is painful but at the same time very illustrative, we need to take care of our coins and that is something I have tried to do since I got in crypto, I only invested in an ico once and the price dropped almost 75% in a month but I kept holding and after sometime we are back at the original price, I was about to sell but after reading the forum I realized it will be a bad idea, so if it was not because of honest posters like you I would have lost most of my investment.
