What makes people so addicted to gambling?

Do you know anyone who is heavily into gambling?

i am Curious to know the different views about this above questions

It's about people believing in a pipe dream that if they go "all in" on a game they can double or quadruple their money... it's why people play the lottery, just putting in a small amount and getting a huge return.  This is alright in moderation, but when overdone it's horrible... people hang on to that dream as long as possible and therefore becomes addicting.  It's all they think about, and when they run out of funds they think that that if they had some more money, that they would definitely rebound and make up what they lost.

Digging a deep hole like that and trying to make it out is what keep people addicted, as long as they don't accept the fact that they lost and can't move on in life.

The answer to your question I guess since I have gambled heavily over a decade or so is trying to recoup my losses which is nearly impossible about as plausible as winning the lottery. The main attraction must be the dream of one day I will get lucky and I will never have to work again.

People are getting addicted towards gambling in the hope of winning some big amount, some people also play because they think that its a short cut to make the money and get rich quickly.

I think its the mid-set of the people that makes them addicted to gambling.Maybe at times its the social conditions but most of the time I think its urge to earn more money in less time.

Several users here have mentioned money as an incentive, or rather, even the objective for gamblers - and at a glance, this might seem true.

But, imagine an Utopian society, where money is no longer in use, your basic needs are all taken care of, and any additional material interests can just be printed in the nearest 3D printer (lets assume, for the sake of argument, this is all possible, for everyone, with no constraints on energy / resources / whatever); my question is: would gambling, and more generally, risk taking behavior, disappear? Or would it just take other forms, now that you can gain no material advantage from it?

I'd bet on the latter - perhaps the origin of this behavior is rooted in a time where scarcity was far more prevalent than it is today, and so, risk taking was far more rewarding (and widespread), but then, I guess this also means that it goes beyond any material gains one can get (at least, for those of us alive today).

People are usually addicted to gambling due to the adrenaline that money betting offers and of course the large amount of bucks you can win by being luckily. Also people are minded to make $$$ without working.

To respond to your second question, I don't personally know any heavily addicted gambler but I see everytime I come across the betting shop, people with red eyes and drunk who keep playing slots and losing money...
They are simply lost causes.  Lips sealed

As far as interest goes, a lot of people approach gambling as entertainment. For $50 they can spend a night out socializing at a casino and getting drinks and being in a fun environment.

As far as addiction goes, some people don't know how to cope with loss, and resort to more gambling in a (usually failed) attempt at recovering from their losses.

People makes addicted to gambling because playing a gambling game is fun and some people use the gambling for their own interest or I mean thinking in the future that if he or she win the price he or she can buy anything his or her wanted. after his winning thinking to play again and win the price again but in the end loss so the more he or she lost the more he addicted it...

Once that initial thought of "Wow I won something!" fates it is all about making up what you lost.
Gamblers always try to break even while they are in losing streak. Eventually they will bust.
It is just a fact of life in the gambling world. The house always wins. They always find away to lure you back into their clutches.

That is where it goes wrong in the part of the gambler: trying to recoup their losses which is a bad thing. Once the beginner's luck kicks in and settles down in the head of the gambler, he will get hooked and keep on coming back. The things is, no matter how hard the gambler try to win over the house, he just can't.

Excitement! Every new hand bring it. It doesnt matter if u loose or win, cause there is next hand, next dealing.  It's human nature to feel excited when taking risks, trying to beat other players. A feeling that some people believe they cannot live without. For most of us, gambling is a harmless activity. But for some people, gambling is a way of life, an addiction that can wreck their lives. Gamble for fun is my advice to everyone, dont let that become more than it.

I think it's the euphoria people get when once they have experienced to win. Gambling is like something that fuels it to make the person addicted to it hoping that they can feel the glee of winning once again. Disregarding all the loose they get, they will always keep on playing as long as that feeling is set in their minds. Cheesy

I think it's the euphoria of a win and moreover addictive advertise subliminal messages to get folks in a trance like state or power of suggestion. some people are easily conned/susceptible to these techniques...

I think there is cycle first won big amount with low amount and than lost on losing streak so after this we chase this to recover this with hope of that will happen again so that we get addicted to gambling.

People are addicted to the "jackpot" feeling. Dopamine releases... makes them happy. It's the ideology that makes them keep thinking "I'll win big this time".

It's the rush of the adrenaline that distorts their thought process.
