What makes people so addicted to gambling?

Do you know anyone who is heavily into gambling?

i am Curious to know the different views about this above questions
There is or should be a limit to everything we do in life, for example, eating food has a limit, drinking water has limit, speed in cars, motorcycles, bicycles, even aeroplanes has a limit, I am actually focusing on the positive things we do.

If we are to go over to the Negative things we do, you should also know that, drinking alcohol has a limit, smoking has a limit.. Basically every thing we do in life, whether good or bad, should have some limit, over doing any of this things could conote to being addicted to that thing.
Like some who eats too much, drinks to much, smokes too much and so on, gambling too much than normal is equal to being addicted to it.
So, imagine a scenario where you have just $10 with you, you are very hungry and need to buy food, but then, you also feel like gambling, and its also possible to play gambling games with the $10, and without any form of second thought, you went straight to gambling with the money - it means you are a gambling addict.

Or think of another scenario where you don't have money to gambling, and you are so uncomfortable about it, uncomfortable to the extent that if you find someone else's money kept someone, you don't mind stealing it to use it for gambling, that also means you are a gambling addict.

A lack of discipline is the main reason. Addicted gamblers often don’t follow responsible methods and let emotions guide them instead of logic. Gambling should be for entertainment, but without control, it can lead to serious problems. The hope of a big win gives people the idea they can change their lives, but I’m not sure if this hope is what they truly need Smiley It might be more of an escape from life’s problems and a habit that becomes hard to break (for irresponsible players)...

Who bumped this thread hahah this is an old thread from the 2015 and the OP maybe already inactive for a years hahhaha

But if someone asked me What makes people so addicted to gambling? is because the feel of winning and chasing the losess only both of this is the big reason that I know. Lets say you win a gambling you gonna feel "oh my god this is easy money then lets go do it more" but there is also other reason "Dang it I already deposit so much and I want all my money atleast back from all the that loses" and the result from both of it you get addicted

I will share the story about one of my friends and his gambling habit.

The guy has enough money, but loves to get something that is inexpensive for free. For example recently he needed new mobile charging wire. It cost $10-15. He can easily afford to buy it. But instead he  loves to make a deposit to a casino, play few low risk bets to win those $10-15, and get that wire for free. I think he is quite sick because of such a habit. So what makes people addicted to gambling - one of he reason is it allows them to be flexible with their expenses.

It's good if your friend can earn money by gambling, there is nothing wrong with his habit, it's just his beliefs, people have different characters. I have friends who earn quite a lot, but some spend almost everything they earn and do not deny themselves anything, others try to save on many things and create a fortune, because they are more comfortable this way and they want to be sure of the future. I do not condemn any of these lifestyles, everyone does what they like, and your friend is definitely not addicted to gambling, he just does not like to spend his money.)

But he is doing it all the time. Every little unnecessary purchase he tries to cover by winning it through gambling. For example to get those $10, he has deposited several hundreds to win it after few clicks. I dont think that it is worth risk like that to cover tiny expenses. That is not greed, because all other purchase he does "normally". We can call it a habit, or light version of addiction.

My opinion is very similar to yours, players come back again and again to win back what they lost earlier. They have a desire to simply get back what they lost earlier, this is what keeps them going, but for such people, most often, everything continues with increasing losses. At some point, they will reach a level where they decide that their losses are too high for this to continue, but until then, they can lose quite a lot of money.

That kind of mindset is what makes them addicted to gambling, instead of wanting to recover what has been lost but instead increasing the amount of losses because the uncertain victory obtained in gambling does seem difficult to get, only luck will make players win, besides that to cover all the losses that have occurred is very unlikely.

For people who can accept losing money that is bet on gambling, they may not experience a desire to recover losses, moreover, this desire to recover losses is one of the wrong actions, because it will only make us lose more money.
Yes, I completely agree with you, in fact, the desire to recover previous losses during gambling becomes a kind of mental trap, at that time every gambler thinks that they will recover all their losses in the next game. But this never happens, rather they end up losing more.
So see gambling only as entertainment, and gamble with money, that if lost, then you do not have to gamble with the mentality of recovering that loss later. Because this can make us more frustrated.
Rather, you should have the attitude that when you start losing, stop gambling, because when I lose, we keep gambling more emotionally. Which is absolutely not right, Because for this, our losses become more deeper.

Predisposition to addiction probably depends on genetics. This is an innate quality of character. This means not only gambling addiction, but also alcoholism, drug use, and smoking.
So one person will be comfortable with gambling, losses and winnings. And another person suffering from addiction will be eager to recoup in case of loss, and worst of all, he will no longer be very happy about winning. Because for him, the very process of playing on a mental level will be more important - excitement, tension build-up and "discharge".

People can get addicted to gambling in various ways, some of them deliberately lose by gambling and then enter gambling again and again to recover that money and this is the sign of that addiction. I have seen some people leave their families because of gambling, and I have seen them leave the village and even leave their living place and go to a lonely place. Gambling addiction harasses people the most because when a person enters gambling, he does not immediately reach the stage of addiction, he gradually wins in gambling and loses, and this continues for a long time.
At one stage, the gambler slowly takes gambling as a profession and starts facing losses immediately, later he gambles more and more to recover his losses, but loses more money because he entered gambling for income. That is why many people get addicted in this way. Usually, more people face losses in gambling.

Losses. I think that's most of the reason why they want to come back over and over again.
Revenge. Chasing losses. Just want their money back. Those types of reasons could fuel the emotion of a gambler to play more and deposit more because they think there will be a point when the online gambling site will give it all back to them and maybe some profits too. But, we all know that there's a chance it will be impossible to get it all back because the chance of winning is so low that we might as well quit and save ourselves from losing more money rather than spending more.

Each person's life is their own individual path and each problem gambler's addiction arises from their own reasons. For some, the desire to relax and have a good time got out of control.
For others, the desire to earn a lot of money got lost in this desire. And chasing a carrot like a donkey, they began to replenish the deposit over and over again, and became poor.
And someone is saved in gambling from harsh reality or strong shocks.
In general, there can be many reasons.

I don't know anyone who gambles but I think the addiction to gambling is the hope of making more money in a short period of time.  Although gambling is a game that depends entirely on luck, people have become more interested in this game by relying on luck because once they win, everything changes.  It is basically hope that entices people to gamble again and again.

Here's what i think:

1) Misconception that Gambling is an easier way to make money.

2) Imagine You bet 1 BTC at 90% and you win. You just got 10% profit. Now imagine you convert 1 BTC to fiat and deposit at the Bank. Wait for 2 years to get some 12% interest. Which is quicker? Of course betting at 90%. Idk why people never understand that 90% chance to win is not 100% chance to win. I've seen people loose 5 times in a row at 95%(thankfully all were 10 satoshi bets).

3) People win smaller and that makes them happy. They start playing more.. Another big win... Again start playing... HUGE LOSS.... Now what? Now, they want to recover what they lost. They bet again and again until they loose everything...  Proof? Same thing happened to AKCoinMiner at Primedice Smiley

People keep waiting for them to get rich, and they purposely ignore the fact that the house is against them. They bet against the odds, just to win big.

easy money of course, i mean it's not so hard, you just have to be lucky and you can win lots of money, also when someone tries to gamble and loses, they wants to win what they lost, so they gamble again and again till they lose everything

People have addictive personalities, most people have a vice, some choose drink, cigarette's, drugs, prostitutes, making money even religion.

I don't think it's a weak personality trait.

Some people get obsessed with gambling, it's only a problem if you're betting with amounts you can't afford to lose which unfortunately seems to happen to some people.

Easy to understand but difficult for the gamblers to get rid of it. If they win, they want to win more! I they lose, they will try to recover the loss! So gambler will never stop until losing all money!
