Go for ETH.... ETH is a good coin, because its normally chosen by everyone, working in the direction of the market will help you avoid the risk of failure.

SNM
PRL
ELIX
SUB
UTRUST

Fully agree with 1 - 3. I Invested early in PRL and ELIX. Both have a lot of potential to grow.

Substratum is solid - but in terms of market cap in the middle of nowhere. Too high for bigh growth and too low for stability. But might be an option.

Utrust, I have not yet done any research.

I keep thinking what to buy.

This moment is rather complicated given the strong growth of bitcoin that is putting heavy downward pressure on alt. I suggest you wait until the situation stabilizes and to repeat your question at the end of the month.

SportyFi has a potential to become top blockchain project and bringing cryptocurencies to mainstream adoption.

Their goal is to decentralize sports funding and investment, so undiscovered talents can succeed. (This is now controlled by 10-15 big corporations)

Team behind it is very serious, active, experienced, has good connections...

They already have many superstars supporters (Charlie Shrem, Roberto Carlos, Edin Dzeko, Noriaki Kasai, Peter Prevc...) and I believe many more to come.

ICO will start 14. November. IMO this can be a coin for long term investment (1 year +)

Am a newbie, need suggestions which one to buy initially?

Depends on your risk/return tolerance.

Many will recommend the most stable and that is good but those will normally yield minimal returns.

For safe bet, ETH and BTC.

Note that coins that already pumped 20x, 50x, 100x (with a few exceptions) will most likely not pump like that again ...they are done.  May still grow but much slower.  If you are a risk taker and want to gamble, look for a good new coin and put 10% of your holdings there.  If you get lucky (proper homework/research reduces the risk and dependence to luck)...you can possibly see 40x gains in a few months.

Check the list I posted above for reference.  All are good coins that suffered the most during these BTC forks.  I am betting they will rebound hard later this year.

Good luck!

the most beautiful option ethereum people are aware of the ethereum potential. For this reason, the most secure and logical choice is ethereum.
The thing with Ethereum is that ICOs end up selling a lot of the Ethereum that they've gathered during their ICO back to the market. So that offsets its growth significantly.

If I have some capital to invest (10/31/2017), I'd buy;

ZEN
OMG
ARK
KNC
AEON
NXS
ADX
LINK
ODN
REQ
NEO
GAS
RPX
SUB
ENG

I am actually invested on all of these (but I want more) so it is not just talk. Wink

To clarify, I have other coins too but they are not as good an investment return wise right now (I think).  These are what I believe have the most potential for major rebound/gain once the forks are done.

What are the good coins to buy these days and why?

Gnosis?
Digibyte?
ETH?
DeepOnion?
Else?
Go for Ethereum. It is one of the most popular crypto available in the market right now and will give you good gains. With a market capital of 40 billion dollars It's price has a potential to cross $900 within a year. Being a software platform which can be coded by itself and activated through the blockchain system by its developers, its development roadmap looks promising. You can expect a good amount of worth from it.
Experts expect new capital to flow into crypto currencies in 2018, ethereum, Monero, Lisk, Waves and some other altcoins are supposed to reach very high levels, thus $900 for ethereum might happen next year.
People are slowly asking me more and more about crypto at the very least. But so far only very few of them are actively involved. But it's clear that things are changing and that demand and interest are increasing very quickly.

It is true that people are more and more involved in altcoins. However, if their price remain so constantly directed by the btc price, how can anyone expect to invest substantial money in it... only speculation in my opinion.
This will change in the coming years. We're just starting to see "real world" companies starting up via ICOs, so once some of them start generating revenue we'll see "real" investments in the altcoin world.
