Don't put all your money in one basket, so I suggest the following:

BITCOIN
ETHEREUM
LITECOIN
RIPPLE
MONERO - Privacy is important, I believe in it
SIA - if they indeed continue with the development of this project it will boom
QTUM - Looks promising
NEO - if they ban bitcoin in China, this will go really high!

and I would find a few new ICO's to invest in.

The reason? It's actually quite simple. Go with the big ones and the promising ones.

You cannot loose by investing in all of the above. The only way to loose your money is if the CryptoCurrency is destroyed.

That is my opinion though.

Whatever the happenings in the market or overall market. Always target for long term and buy the coins at least in the top 5 so you can have a strong and stable portfolio of investment and you don't need to rush buying or selling coins because all of the things in the world has its own time so we don't need to rush.
i plan to do long term investment, but the cost is important for it can lead to huge differences in results, so a proper buy chance is needed, i have not buy anything these days just to wait for the lowest price

I would suggest to do first some research and than buy something.
A relative "safe" investment is buying BTC or ETC or LTC. These coins are rock solid and will go up again in the future

Currently I am waiting for an ICO to really pop out at me. The only one I have seen is Crowdholding. They have just finished their pre-sale and their ICO will start on the 1st of November.

To me, ETH would be the most promising choice, also maybe the safest one.

Undervalued coins with active developers and a plan for the future in my humble opinion are:
- Ardor (ARDR)
- Verge (XVG)
- Lisk (LSK)
- OmiseGo (OMG)

Can anyone give me a TL;DR on Ardor (ARDR)? Somebody mentioned it in a similar vein as this and I was trying to look into how to hold it after buying. It seems like a NXT fork? Has it even launched yet? I keep seeing stuff about a Q3 launch.

I haven't bought any because I don't want to leave funds sitting on Bittrex. But it seems like there isn't a usable Ardor wallet yet. I saw a Reddit thread where someone said that for now, you send ARDR to your NXT wallet. That sounds like a recipe for disaster. So, still sitting on my hands...

Now, when the Crypto currency has fallen significantly in price, it makes sense first of all to pay attention to the old crypto-currencies - bitcoin and ethereum. This digital currency will always be in price. Of other coins, it's worth buying ripple, monero, litecoin.
That is true but there are also other coins that are trying to get to that position. Getting the trust of people and in exchange they give a better feature.
To the OP look at CarTaxi now it may be a good option for you.
They have reached the hard cap for just the Pre sale and when they ICO starts this is going to be a blast for CarTaxi. Think about it.

Its hard to engage now on the new coin which most of them are turning to scam after ICOs. I think much better to buy bitcoin, ethereum, DASH, they are exist for long period of time and past all the struggles comes into world of crypto currency and they are still worth it.
But it always depend on the person/investors, because me i always but the old coin than buying ICOs.

imo there aren't any problems with scams. just do better research and have bigger rewards!) you need to pay attention to what is the business the company is doing, is there any real reasons for ICO and new cryptocurrency..

What are the good coins to buy these days and why?

Gnosis?
Digibyte?
ETH?
DeepOnion?
Else?

Well in my own opinion , ETH is still the best choice when it comes to where you want to invest, ETH is promising and continously growing fast .

for now, it is most appropriate to buy Ethereum because Ethereum prices are down and this is an opportunity.

DeepOnion is definitely a very good buy these days. The project is still very young and even on the process of giving away airdrops. The updates that are more advanced have yet to be implemented. And yet when you look at the value, it speaks of trust and confidence.

I don't think DeepOnion is something good to buy as they drop it to everyone.
I think Neo, Btc, Ether could be good as they are cheaper now. And maybe some Golem, too. Golem is good one.
.
I am not against your opinion.
I just want to clarify what youve said, yes deeponion is now at its free airdrop state,  but not everyone could be a part of it.
Set of rules are needed to be maintained to qualify for it and others find this hard to accomplish. So eventhought it is free not everyone could qualify and receive airdrop.
And if you would ask me if it is ok to buy deeponion right now. My advice is it depends upon your purpose, if you want a fast ROI then deeponion is not for you. Someday it will surely increase in price but this may not yet happen soon since additonal features are still being made. But if you want it for a long term investment then deeponion is highly advisable since it is still cheap right now and has bery big potential after the completion of all of its features and the completion of airdrops.

For me it is ethereum, but it is just my opinion it depends on you what to buy. Besides I saw the value of eth and it is the most expensive altcoins if bitcoin cash is not included. And also I see a lot of potential in that coin because they will not reach that kind of value if they are not that good. They grow fast just like what bitcoins are before. But bitcoins are far ahead from them but if you are talking about altcoins probably get a lot of eth.

I recommend now to skip such altcoyins:
NEO, XEM, OMG, QTUM, ETH!
Now is a good time to buy these coins.

I buy whatever I feel is undervalued. Lately that has been mostly eth and a few other PoS coins.

It's really subjective, it's better to look at fundamentals
