I learned that LINUX, UNIX and XOR are not acceptable words. Well, in "Words with friends" anyway.

I learned that the electric motor in the fan I took apart to try and fix, is pretty much the exact same technology as the massive hydroelectric turbines my dad spent his life maintaining, just working in the opposite direction. One uses electricity to run a magnet to spin a thing that turns the fan. One uses water to turn what is totally not unlike a fan to turn a magnet to generate electricity.

Kind of obvious now that I've seen it, but a pretty neat connection to make 30ish years after the fact, or whenever it was I last saw the insides of the big turbines on a cub scout tour.

I learned Nigerian scammers always mention 'Nigeria' in their emails. Why?
Because exchanging emails with someone who knows what a Nigeria scam is just wastes their time. If they say "Nigeria" and you still respond to them, clearly you don't. Remember, they're sending out tens of thousands of emails and have to personally respond to everyone who responds to them asking for more information.

I've learned that the percentage of virgins studying anthropology (20%) is four times less than the percentage of virgins studying mathematics (83%). Interestingly, computer science students are studs compared to the maths students with half the number of students being virgin (40%).

Hmmm. I think this study took place at a Christian university.

I went to Full Sail and we called it Full Male since it was 98% guys. It was amazing watching the DnD/Anime crowd flock around the one hot chick in class.
