One of the dumber things that I have heard people say is that the creator of bitcoin can just create more bitcoins for himself, cash them out, and then "turn off" bitcoin.
Another pretty dumb thing I heard when Charlie Shrem was arrested, was that "bitcoin is going down because the president of bitcoin was arrested today"
Calling it a ponzi scheme is probably the most common one...

My SO has banned me from buying bitcoin. I watched bitcoin go down to $425 / BTC on coinbase briefly a couple days ago, but I was unable to take advantage of it. My SO has declared, "Bidcoin is just a ponzi scheme cooked up by nerds. If you buy any bidcoin, I will break up with you. I don't sleep with nerds." 
So, I called up my "nerd" buddy and told about the low price, he bought in and now is sitting on a 30% profit. He made $3000 in less than 48 hours (he bought at $450/BTC, it's now $585 on Winkdex). My "nerd" buddy bought me a beer. At least I got a beer out of it.

I can forgive people who know nothing about Bitcoin for saying dumb things so my pet hate is Bitcoin enthusiasts who bitch and moan about Fractional Reserve Banking.

I assume some of this is said in jest but an FRB should be solvent. Illiquid perhaps, but not insolvent.

Can't make my mind up on them I'm afraid, most comments are made by people who simply haven't done research but these lines are often spoken by people who definitely should know better but they scream it at us like they genuinely believe it.
Disclaimer: Bitcoins aren't a ponzi scheme because the code was and continues to be released to the public open source and they can't be compared to tulips because there's a fixed supply of them and it would be impossible to create more without everybody finding out about it.

In the USA there are laws on the books that specifically prohibit state governments, and individuals from creating their own currencies. What usually gets missed is that there's no law prohibiting anyone else from creating an alternate currency in the US.

for the record, I remember reading stories about communities in the US where local merchants and citizens got together and created local currencies to help them weather the storm during the really bad economic climate after the mortgage/housing bubble burst. So you can use that when some idiot says bitcoin or whatever is illegal - at least if they are in the USA.
