If there are enough of bitcoin users, the retailers can not ignore such a large customer base. In some of the fields of industry one can expect bitcoiners to be a very numerous group of people. For example, to sell a product that requires a high IT skills to use, in my opinion should address the ability to pay for it in bitcoin, because its almost sure that people with high IT skills knows about bitcoin and probably use it. The other fields could include financial options. Even game industry should be more incentivised to include bitcoin payment, because bitcoin users prove they have enough free time to learn new things, so probably have time for electronical entertainment.

So to answer the topic, there should be a constant asks about, if such a payment in bitcoins are available, to make retailers aware about the customer base.

More retailers will start accept bitcoin when people start to spend bitcoin. Most of the people save bitcoin for some future, retailers are for
spending money, banks are for saving, and here in comments I can see that much more people save than spend.
There are no advantages for people to buy things with bitcoins I think, everything is more expensive cause retailers are calculating difference
in their price, there are no discounts. I do not have enough bitcoin to buy anything at the moment, but even if I have I would not spent my
bitcoins on anything, more likely I would save also for the future.

Not necessary most of user spend bitcoin in some way. I agree that it is good to save it and possible this is best investment for saving some amount of cash for old days.
For buying it is divided opinion why will someone spent or not spent bitcoin for something. This is hard call cuz most dont believe in bitcoin (this I mean on retailers) they like more paper as mean of paying or cards.

But we can expect in next year or two that more will be accepting bitcoin as mean of paying and purchasing stuff and goods.

It makes sense that a transition to accept bitcoin would be underway for more US-based stores.
Yes, we can expect this to happen with U.S.-based stores also as the new Trump's government is always projecting the philosophy of "power to people". Bitcoin must be one practical example how people could gain their power economically. It would be very interesting if US government will be following Japan on the stand on bitcoins.
I'm sure if US government will be following Japan then we can expect more European and Asian countries to follow USA.

But we never need to forget that government's stand on bitcoin is comparatively less significant for making more retailers to accept bitcoin. It can happen automatically over time.

"Japan: No Bitcoin Tax, Thousands of Stores to Accept the Cryptocurrency"

article published July, 5, 2017
https://edgylabs.com/2017/07/05/japan-no-bitcoin-tax-stores-accept-cryptocurrency/

"AirRegi is a widely used, tablet-based point-of-sale app in Japan. Currently, around 260,000 establishments, stores, and commercial facilities use this proprietary app to accept payments from their clients."

It makes sense that a transition to accept bitcoin would be underway for more US-based stores.
Retailers will accept bitcoin when bitcoins declaires   a currency to all over the world. Most of all when theres no taxes as japan stated above.Bitcoin will be the powerful electronic current.lt will control everything about currencies to every nation because bicoin will define as "quick process".

Until stability sets in, swings in price is less volatile to a barest  minimum, I don't see how retailer will start accepting or me paying in btc because it goes both ways. In the case of price falling my .0015 might buy a shirt which I might be happy about but the seer won't be because by waiting 10minutes later, he can end up in a loss and the same thing in the case of rising prices where my initial btc can increase 20% in an hour thereby causing abnormal profit to the seller which I would not want. Either way the process is not mutual and that is the reason why the adoption will see a slow progression .

i imagine when bitcoin have standart price for retailers maybe retailers want to accepted bitcoin. so its like this, for example we buy food at $5 and the owner have a standard price for converting fiat to btc, let say $5 equal in bitcoin maybe for an example 0.0005 btc. so no matter how much bitcoin price up and down, we should pay 0.0005 btc for buying food.

actually i don't really understand about this as i only user and don't know anything about retailers or economy business, and my above explain is just for an example. but i hope soon many retailers accept bitcoin as they can see big opportunity in bitcoin world and they can grow their business with bitcoin. especially if the price is still up than the last high price.

in my opinion there are a couple of things that are preventing retailers from accepting bitcoin:
1. people who own bitcoin are a lot.ut people who are willing to spend bitcoin are very little. this means the possibility of little to no customers.
2. price is volatile still. it has been becoming less volatile but we can see drama like blocks and split can cause bigger volatility again!
3. fees. although they have come down ever since spam attack stopped but if they go up again and remain high people will be even less willing in spending their coins.
4. things such as chain split. which are scary and nobody wants a scary currency when there is fiat.

when these change, more retailers will accept bitcoin.
Yeah, but why not offer the option to those who want to use bitcoin, especially if it doesn't cost the merchant anything extra?

But I'm indifferent here,  because I don't like to spend my hard earned bitcoin on things I can buy with fiat.  Every time I've done that I've regretted it,  because bitcoin went higher shortly thereafter.   It's maddening!   And people aren't going to go out of their way to buy btc just to spend it.  It just ain't gonna happen.

There are some obvious advantages for retailers that do make this plausible in the future, including faster confirmation and receipt of payment and lower cost versus credit card acceptance (~2.5%). However, until there is a simple way to convert bitcoin to fiat within POS systems and e-commerce gateways, retailers will not accept bitcoin en masse. Figuring that problem out is an excellent business opportunity.

Definitely price will be irrelevant factor that will not affect influencing business owner's to accept Bitcoin. From my perspective I see that Bitcoin until it is not stable will be accepted by a few brave businesses who attempts to take advantage of its volatility. Maybe the time when it becomes a stable currency we may see some big businesses accept Bitcoin as a mode of payment.

Retailers will accept Bitcoin once its popularity rises. If there are more users of Bitcoin, the retailers would have to adjust to them in order to cater to their consumers. Right now, only a few retailers have adopted the cryptocurrency. Its a slow pace but I think that Bitcoin would eventually be adopted as payment system in the mainstream market. Perhaps once technology has offered an easier way for convenient and hassle-free access, this would pave the way towards the acceptance of Bitcoin.
we can do small business in anyways with bitcoin, by having payments business that will allow to send money anyway,in my country there are businesses like this that uses btc. Though we were still hoping for more merchants that will accept btc for us to fully utilized it, i know the time will come real soon.

retailers seems to be not interested for now in bitcoin because they know that bitcoin price is volatile which they don't want because bitcoin is a decentralized currency that's the reason why they don't accept crypto right now. and one more thing they still preffered fiat money because it has a lot of source where they can cash it out than bitcoin.

Here a are couple of main reasons retailers do not take Bitcoins.

1- They are still difficult to deal with. You have to figure out how to accept them, where to store them and where and how to turn them back into fiat currency.
Retailers do not want to sit down and study this all and figure it out they just want systems that will take a payment. 6-seconds done..

2- Much of the gateway technology is new. New technology means bugs, problems, lag time, learning time, failed experiments, bankrupt companies, etc. Retailers just want proven stuff to plug in and go.

3- Bitcoin is unstable. It can lose 10% in one day. Retailers have tight margins 10% can make or break the profit in a sale for many.

The big reason WHY ? Why would a retailer go tru the extra trouble .. ? You have a few devoted Bitcoin fans and you have some of the IT crowd exploring it but as far as mainstream it needs to be easy and worthwhile.

People do not go out of their way just to make life hard for no reason. Especially when it comes to $$$. In the world of retail the payment is the final end of the line. It needs to be as easy and flawless as possible.

Bitcion need better apps, less fees and become more stable to start with.
The reasons you have given are valid to some extent. All these problems are on the part of retailers, we can’t blame bitcoins for this. If retailers can’t understand how to operate bitcoins and find it difficult to converting back into fiat currency, that’s because they have very little knowledge about latest technologies. Transaction fees are not a big problem. Banking systems also charge high transaction fees. But yes, fluctuations are common in crypto market and it’s the real beauty of this trading market.

The day in a country Bitcoin gets fully legalised and supported by payment processors, you will see thousands of stores starting to accept it. So if you want to know when, just look for legalisation news !

Need some spare btc for a new PC
yes price volatility and slow transaction times make it useless for retail sales etc. bitcoin has scalability problems

Even with that fixed and transactions being faster with lower fees I still don't see bitcoin implemented as a everyday low cost purchase currency, I see it becoming a big investment asset.

It's really hard to give a real answer becaude mostly adding bitcoin as a payment started some years ago but for example fiverr removed it. As I read also on this forum, one japanese airline is going to accept bitcoin payment.
Bitcoin with blockchain technology is getting popular everyday so there is no doubt more retailerd will accept it in near future because everything has it's user so it won't be bad for any retailer if they will have even one additional client because of bitcoin.
It's good and easy payment system so no worries, it will rise finally.
Well if other businesses see the advantage and great opportunity it will give to that retailer than obviously other businesses will follow. For example if other airlines in Japan saw that airline that accept Bitcoin had tremendous success because of it than definitely they will soon accept Bitcoin. If the retailers and at the same time the consumers have the same feedback on the usage of Bitcoin than it will easily influence other businesses to soon accept it as a mode of payment in their business.
Also to my mind main problem is that people like bitcoin payment but don't want to use it and prefer using old methods like visa card and etc. I think it needs time and some campaigns to show people why they have to develope and choose bitcoin instead of visa and etc.
Of course it will take some years but result will be good and everyone will be able to purchase something without others' help.

well i think bitcoin will accept more retailers when the bitcoin reach 5000$ per piece in that price the retailer will be hungry about bitcoin so that they accept it.

Yes they will get more attracted to it if that will happen. Plus if the current issues will be resolve sooner like high transaction fee and turtle like confirmation they will be more interested. Businessmen always mean business so they'll go where they can profit big time.

Even with a price $6000 retailers will not be attracted because of its unstable price or what we usually call volatility. We all know bitcoin is volatile digital currency and with its price changing every minute, do you think they will accept that.
And I think if they want business, they will do anything now to earn early, and then just wait for more time, to earn big profits.

I wish I could spend my bitcoins locally or even in my country at all (easily). Although it has helped me hang onto them and earn quite a bit over the years.
This could be made possible by the further development and continues support of the community of bitcoin to its system in terms of transaction. Just imagine people are using bitcoin as a form of transaction in a daily basis it can be a huge factor for businesses to accept bitcoin because it is widely used by people and in fact bitcoin has an easy way of transaction with reliable mode of it so it is a good thing for us to continue our support for bitcoin development. No doubt that in the near future bitcoin will be a future currency or a universal currency that can be used in all forms of transaction.
