can i get a new rank without a merit

A Copper membership will give you the perks of a member rank while still being a newbie, so I recommend purchasing it if you wish to post images in your posts.
You read it right. The copper membership is not a rank. It's just a type of membership (for now, the forum only have 1 membership that is Copper) which brings some permissions /benefits that are almost similar to the member rank.

So answer for the question of Rebons is: You only are able to ranked up if you meet required number of merit for each rank on the forum. If Rebons have yet known about it, let's spend a few minutes for reading

can i get a new rank without a merit
No. Your next rank would be Jr, Member, and besides the Activity requirement (>= 30), you also need to comply with the Merit requirement (>=1).

To be honest. If rank is important to someone, the first few levels should not be much of an issue. It’s the highest ranks that require a lot of persistence and a certain degree of posting of decent enough content.

So in previous times merit is comes from airdrop wow thats awesome. But now it is hard to get because we have to help others to solve their questions and answers and if they liked it they will give merit to us. Is that correct ser ?
When merit system was introduced by @theymos in 2018 the members were airdropped certain amount of merits according to their rank like lowest was full member with 100 merits and highest legendary with 1000 merits airdropped to them.Earlier only activity was required to rank up but this merit system helps lot to hinder the growth of spam posters on the forum.

But saying it was easy to earn merits in past is wrong as you only got airdropped merits rest you have to earn and it's the same as today. If you are quality poster and contributing effective to the forum you will earn them.Suppose you write up a post asking some technical or non technical doubt and it initiated healthy discussion on the forum it's also qaulity post on which you can get merit. So contribution to the forum and learning from it will help you to gain merits if you are focused on it.

i will give you quick answer "where the merits comes from" its airdropped for several member for another member
What do you actually mean by it? The whole members were given the merits based on rank but there were some exceptions to it like some got more merits above their rank by @theymos and appointment of merit sources. As @Blackhatcoiner has given the link for this information you can check about them.

Wow you really helped me ser. Thanks so much for clarification. But exactly what is mean by outside of bounty section ? Like in alcointalks, marketplace etc. please solve this one more last question of mine. Sorry for taking your time. Thank you

You can earn merit pretty much anywhere on the forum, however, there isn't much chance to earn merit in the bounty section. It is about passing valuable messages. You will be rewarded with merits if you write something that will help others. It would be difficult for you to achieve this if you just hunt for bounties.

Before the implementation of merits I think the users are airdropped with few ones to start with depends on rank. I remember when this is implemented I have little to none smerits until I received few and increase my rank. Also we have some stocks from the merit sources who distributed it on the first days to some quality posters until it spread to a lot of users. Its not confusing as it produces more merits day by day.

At first, if you are emphasising the benefit of merit...the one of the important of merit is to accelerate through the forum system of ranking, so been stagnant of not earning additional merit or having nor your ranking will remain stagnant without no development.

Merit is rotational and it base on recycling since the adoption through the system, if you have 4 merit you earn, in actual sense you will have 2smerit to give out, so the smerit is what makes merit system to be rotational since system has already make provisions of merit..so in order to make the merit to speculate, introduction of merit source have to be enshrined to support Merit system..read up from those links provided for you to understand more about were merit come from.

<…> Who is the first person that got merit but from where ? <…>
Most of your questions have been addressed by the posts above, so I’ll just go for the quoted one that still remains unanswered.

The first sMerit transaction was from @theymos to @AdolfinWolf on this post:

I've noticed that i now all of a sudden have a "Merit" score of 500. What is this going to be for?

Does this have anything to do with the new proposals to combat spam?

EDIT: SEE https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/merit-new-rank-requirements-2818350

Edit: I also discovered that there is now a "Patrol" link which you can choose to enable under Forum Profile Information.
The TX amounted to 1 sMerit, sent on the 24/01/2018 22:12 UTC.

Initially, besides the airdropped Merits, there was an initial allocation of airdropped sMerits (sendable Merits) that depended on the account's Rank and Activity over the last year. There was also an initial set of around 35 Merits Sources to begin with.

Yep, any that is not a bounty section, which is nothing but a spam dumpster so no wonder that you didn't get any merit in all your time here. Stick to the boards and topics that you have some interest, engage in conversations, be ready to learn and merit will find your way. This forum is so much more than bounty section where you spent majority of your time.

One important thing to add is to take your time and read Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ thoroughly so you don't repeat some classic newbie mistakes like getting banned due plagiarism.

Thanks ser. Just this is my random thought which is taking such space in my mind before but i now got the answers with some rules really thank you and thanks for all

Merit airdrop was only one time thing, at the moment merit system was implemented.

It may look hard when you got 0 merit so far, but once you start posting regularly outside of bounty section you will see that it ain't that hard at all. And no, you don't get merit by only helping others, often even asking a right question and showing genuine interest in bitcoin can get you merit.

Me and 110 other "somewhat established members" generate sMerits out of thin air every once in a while, depending of where and when we spend them.

But now it is hard to get because we have to help others to solve their questions and answers and if they liked it they will give merit to us. Is that correct ser ?
I, personally, try to merit those who help generally, not only those who helped me. Others may not have the same behavior. Obviously, though, if they like your post, they'll merit it.

The admins gave a lot of sendable merits to everyone in an airdrop when the system was introduced in January 2018.

New merits are minted by merit sources who are selected based on the applications they've submitted and their interest in becoming a source.

Every merit that's earnt also mints half a sendable merit for the user it was given to to also spend.
