You could try coins that are really good at market scalability. Coins that able to keep pace in this fast changing world. Coins like ARK where it's ready for mass adoption. We are already approaching an era where more and more companies and people will now be using crypto so scalability is one to always consider.
I don’t recommend investing my money at all now as bears are reigning in the market
I understand that the desire to diversify now captures all, but you look at the altcoins, they are all in such a bad state that there is nothing to choose from.
If you want to invest in lower market cap coins i suggest you to look at Own which have sharply rise up in price, Streamr DATAcoin which could go up to previous all time high which is something near 15x right now.

I'd like to suggest you some alts which meet your requirements (<$1 price), and which are more or less rising during current falling market situation which potentially might bring you even more income during bullrun. Here's my suggestion - USDT(Tether), MGO(MobileGo), XRP(Ripple), BAT(Basic Attention Token), and let's say Waves(Waves platform). I do personally hodl all of those myself as well. But if there will be any chance to increase your min price per token then better look at ETH and EOS too. Please can someone tell me good coins a least five different coins below $1?

Most of altcoins are now under 1$. But if you can watch DARICO ecosystem token... I see something different in that. Also I recommend you to change your mind from altcoins to ETH. Because I think this is the chance to buy ETH. Also if you need to invest altcoins , a new project, PAXCOIN is the best project for it. Refer more about it.

I think it is extremely wrong and unproductive to put yourself in the framework of "less than $1". With this approach, some interesting projects will have to be discarded and not considered. Well, here's a list of your requests: PundiX, Fantom, ICON, Aion, Civic.
Today I see many promising projects in the top-30 of coinmarketcap. But if you choose from those that will meet your requirements, I choose XRP, ADA, ZRX, XTZ, TRX. These are great projects that will show good growth and bring you profits when the new bullrun starts.

I ll take this question like you are asking me now. You had better not to invest in altcoins which their prices under 1 dollars in these days. Because if you buy altcoins which are under 1 dollars, they will fall in following days because of the market stability.
Pay your attention to the coin Capp and FTT, these are working projects and are at their price minima.

I think it's better to invest in coins that are in the top position in the market because it's safer. especially in conditions now investing in new coins is very risky. and ETH is a coin that I think is very good to buy now because the price is down but the potential to rise is very large because ET is a coin that has a large community.
