All altcoins that are currently at least in the top 20-30, also bitcoin, by investing in these altcoins and in bitcoin, you can ensure an excellent profit for yourself for a long time, so you must first choose one of these altcoins or a few and start investing.
BTC and ETH are the coins I think will last or be the best in the long run. Also, there are other projects or coins out there with good use case , these can also be good in the long term . But as for me, BTC is a sure bet.
If I only need to choose one coin, I only choose bitcoin because bitcoin will be the best in a long time.
But if I need to choose more than one coin, then it will be too many coins that I can choose because, in the market, I can found more than 10 coins that will be the best in the long run. It's not just for high price coins but also a low price coins because many people still don't think that a small price coin can give big profit in a long time.

I will say any coin with serious team and serious working products, these are the projects I think will do well. Also, saying about the coins in particular, BTC, ETH or XLM will do well in the long run, as in my own opinion they have set themselves aside from others

Best crypto for long term is coins that have live product and partnership and used by third party, like BTC, LTC, XRP, TRX, WAVES, XLM.

The Bitcoin is the only coin which i think would be the best in the long run because it is the only coin which is the king of all coin and this is the very profitable coin in this market and it is very favourate coin in this market.
why not just bitcoin? I also always believe in the projects of the etherum, xrp, and also cardano term.
I think the best coins that will do promising job in the future are ripple, ethereum and tron. Now see the performance of ripple, which has not been affected lately by the market meltdown as compared to other coins. Ripple is the one supported by banks and it has partnered with many banks and noted organizations across the country. It is doing its best to cater to the increasing number of clients.
All top 20 coins of this market are best to invest for the long term as because all those coins have highest truest and most trading volume my preference goes to bitcoin, Ethereum, Xlm, Tron, Dash, neo but you can choose any of them as per your wish
I think the top for 5 years will change very much and many coins will go generally lower and lower as many coins from the top do not show their development , but I think eos and tron will show good growth dynamics in the near future! 
You should not ask what coins to buy, and learn how to choose promising projects. There are no experts on this forum, any advice on choosing a coin is only a subjective opinion. For example, in my opinion you should now invest in BTC since I believe this is the main coin for your portfolio. From altcoins I would add ETH, ADA, ZRX, QTUM. But whether to do it, it's up to you.

yes the top coin at CMC might be a good choice even though it won't always give much but he still has a great chance.
But, the question is when ? No one knows this so better focus on the short term benefits rather than missing out waiting for the long term rise. Of course Bitcoin is the leader.
