I cannot say on which do you think to buy, If we look at the market now some of altcoins you mentions are drop the price so much.
So for me it depend on what step you gonna do, If you want to buy must better if not well its your decision not mind. And just try search also because their new altcoins arrive that have a potential to increase the price in a future.
Determining the right time to buy now is very difficult to be sure. It is true that you say that altcoin is currently experiencing a lot of decline and many are saving to see for the future. where there are expected to be very significant changes. It is not recommended to buy a new altcoin that is very difficult to predict, it is better to stay on an existing altcoin market.

I have some altcoins from early 2017 and some BTC and ETH too. I am thinking about investing some more but don't really know what i should be looking into.

Below is my list of coins.

BTC, ETH, NEO, ADA, LSK, LTC, Stratis, Waves, ARK, SHIFT, Pivx, VTC, GRS, Powr, Tenx

When i bought in early 2017, Statis, Waves, Ark and ADA was popular, how are these coins today?

I am not interested in low market/very new coins.

Thanks!
I would only suggest that you choose altcoin that really has good development potential so far, such as Bnb Eth and ltc, but if you have altcoin of your choice, of course it's better because any investment risk that you make is your responsibility itself, but before you invest you should first learn about the prospects for altcoin, because today there are many altcoins that are shit coin and don't have a good future so that you are not wrong in making decisions.

Basically what DU18 said, but it is important that the usecase is clearly achievable in less than five years. Usually usecases are badly needed by mainstream. It can't be a vanity project. Secondly, the dev team should be strong and community alive even with a bear market.

Yes, you are right, we should always choose the coins based on the developments and activity from the development team. There are many bullshit coins which most of the whales are pumping those coins without any active developments, so choose them wisely before purchasing them in the market.

there are lots of good coins now but those that stay on the market and are stable are very rarely seen. BTC is very stable and strong right now, this is the only coin that I understand so far
Of course, everyone will say that because Bitcoin is always the first choice of many investors and the current price of Bitcoin is at very low prices so consider if you want to make long term profits. I have analyzed a lot and it is safe to say that in 2020 this coin will enter a new bull phase and may reach $18,000 again. However, this is just my small prediction and you should only consult because the crypto market has a lot of surprises happen.

You are looking for financial suggestion from random people on the internet? Lol, please don't! Most of them over here will act like they are "professional" investors but trust me, the just spit out random suggestion or will be biased towards a coin they have already invested even if its a shit coin.
Take suggestion,  but don't just blindly invest on it.

I prefer to buy only top alts, because they have already proved themselves and invest in top projects much safer and more profitable

Same here. I will rather commit my funds on a project with proven track record in the cryptocurrency space and earn few percentage profits at tranches than place my hope of good return on investment on unproven projects.
top-ranked coins have better potential to invest but still need to do research to start investing in them to find the most potential coins and patience when holding with a predetermined selling plan when doing research

A good list already. In my point of view investing to a few particularly with the huge crypto names in the market would be enough to be safe from regrets but at the same time earn profit once recovery occur. Investing to the new coins despite of the potentials, would still be a risky decision especially at this moment whereas continuous pumps are still blurry  Personally, the holdings I have last year are still the same, because of the doubts that I have when it comes on investing at time like this.

try to open your eyes and start paying attention to altcoin. bitcoin may indeed have a strong market, but you need big capital to start playing with bitcoin trading or investing. Even though I own bitcoin, I prefer trading on the altcoin market rather than bitcoin. even the newly released coins in the market are also very interesting to trade, such as BCNX and BYX. but now I focus on BNB and LTC trading.

No, you don't need big capital to start investing or trading Bitcoin in any way. Sure, the profits won't be as large as if you had thousands of dollars to throw at it, but you'll still be able to make a little bit of money and learn a lot in the process. I'm tired of seeing people discouraging people from investing in Bitcoin or any other Altcoins because they don't have a tremendous amount of money. Only start with what you can afford to lose if you do lose. Even if it's only $10. The education you get from trying to trade it is well worth that.

Do your own research! Any advice from us here on forum, or any other place, anyone should take with a reserve! Never relay on other people choices, each of us have different perspective and different interests. I suggest people to buy bitcoin, if they don't know what else to buy! Investing in crypto is always risky, be aware of that, investing can be short or long term, there's a huge difference.
So before giving more advises where should someone invest we need to know how much money you have, how much money you wish to earn and in what time period. With more informations we can give better answers, but in the end its our perspective, even after you read what we wrote you should spend some time in verifying that.

It really depends on your appetite for risk, without any doubt the volatility in the altcoin market is something that for the day trader can be a source of profits, but the ability required to make money in those markets is simply too high for the average trader, then it is not difficult to understand that even if the movements of bitcoin are not as big as what you can see in the altcoin market and you need more money to trade it effectively traders still prefer to trade bitcoin than to trade altcoins.

I can only suggest Pluton (PLU) from project Plutus.

Since this week their debitcards are being shipped for the early birds. It is a great product(like Monaco but decentralized) and held their ico in 2015(!). Now the product is ready and a full blown out marketing campaign wil start in about a month.

You can order your free debit card now at plutus.it. For EU customers only for now, other regions will follow soon.

Their marketcap is under 1 million. This one is gonna go sky high.

Don’t forget to join their discord channel for updates and chatting with the community and team members https://discordapp.com/invite/JRzs7YQ

Check their website: plutus.it

Besides ETH and BNB, maybe you can buy Aeternity coins (AE), in a few days later they will do hardfork and I'm sure after that moment the price of AE will increase dramatically. So now is the right time to buy AE and hold it until their hardfork is finished.

You're having good choices, but my preferred choice for now I would have xrp as my leading pick as of the moment. I planned to hold this  coin, because it's been potentially gaining popularity for the past weeks. Furthermore, it's not affected with more fluctuating moments in the market and it doesn't go down below $0.26 lastly. Currently it was stabilizing at $0.30, so it's now showing positive signs as well.
I do not see how XRP is going to perform greatly during the next months or years, maybe if we had an altcoin season XRP will begin to go up in price but that is about it, there are many other coins that will go up faster than XRP and that is if an altcoin season comes at all, if it does not and instead we begin to see the price to go down then it could be a better idea to just hold your bitcoin or if things begin to go in the wrong direction then it could be a good idea to hold fiat.
XRP is no longer considered a good option to invest in because the value of this coin often declines if the market has large fluctuations. I have been following a lot of news about this coin and every month more than hundreds of millions of XRP are unlocked so this brings a lot of risks to investors. I don't like coins that have a high supply because that coin can be devalued at any time and greatly affects other investors.

Now, a lot of different opinions when talking about this coin and not investing seem to be the smartest choice this year because Ripple doesn't have too many highlights to make investors happy.

before buying a coin for investment I always pay attention to how moves in the market and the development of coin it after I see BNB, ETH and TRX it looks pretty good all three coins have fairly fast movements and a good future maybe if we are able to hold these three coins in the long run it will definitely give a lot of profit
All coins within the top 20 coin look pretty good except ripple. Majority of these coins you have here are highly targeted by investors, and the reason why we think they are being abandoned is because we have bare market now, when the bear market is over, we will see the full potential of these coins, and their ability to really remain string on the top 20 list is really an indication that they have very strong technology.

So, if we are looking for any coin that really qualifies for future investment, I think that one of the coin we need to actually look at are these coins, and most especially bitcoin. An investor without having bitcoin is like a bod y without the heed which will make the body not to function perfectly well. Bitcoin should be the top priority.

not only the top 20
there are coins under it like ETC and ZEC that have much more potential than many coins in the top 20..

coins that are in the top 20 may not necessarily project that looks good, in coinmarketcap only the volume is a benchmark for a coin,
so do not buy just look at the position, look at the project, if you buy Ethereum, XRP and Binance does not seem to matter,
if you buy BCH or Doge maybe you should consider again for the long term
