correct me if i am wrong but what i am seeing this list seems more like a random list of country names without any sorting. in which case i say why give them numbers in the first place!

the list also lacks Japan by the way.

Yes you are not wrong. The list is nothing and just as a random list.

Japan on the other hand, recently legalize bitcoin as a legal payment method after a long wait but it doesn't listed on the list. And even prior to that, it must be on the list.

And for my fellow PH mates, please stop your ****** about PH on the bottom list.
From what I have read so far I cannot conclude that the list is just random because even aside from the list other details have emerged that have even provide backing to the list. Regarding the issue of Japan since the declaration is still recent and I dont expect the news to circulate that fast compared to other countries who are on the list that have been known to be the hub of bitcoin trading.

Its surprising to see Nigeria taking the number 14 spot on the list. If the list is credible to be trusted then I am really surprised that despite several reports that the cpoury is known for scammers they could still have a spot over there... Its really surprising...

This article from last year could help explain it.

Nigeria Hyperinflation Looms As Central Bank Throws In The Towel, Devalues Currency

Less than a month ago, when looking at Nigeria's deplorable economic and reserve situation, made far worse by the collapse in Nigerian oil exports courtesy of the Niger Delta Avengers, we predicted that "Nigeria Currency Devaluation Looms As FX Forwards Crash To Record Lows." Specifically we warned that "having urged investors "not to panic" last year, and seeing dollar reserves drying up rapidly earlier this year, recent "lies" about the nation's statistics have raised fears of a looming devaluation as FX forwards have crashed to 291 Naira to the dollar (current peg is 199)."

Hyperinflation / currency devluation could be main reasons for nigerian's adopting btc and crypto.

There have also been cell phone banking experiments in nigeria, which could make its economy more viable to a btc transition.

Mobile Banking Takes Off in Nigeria(article is from 2012)

Mobile devices are revolutionizing transaction services in Africa, similar to the way computers did in industrialized countries.

My country is listed. I can not say bitcoin is "popular" Very few know what it is and less use it and less trade it. Of course the gov agree with the trading part, but guess why? Because we have to pay the taxs on the margin profits ! When we report the incomes for the taxs we have now a part to report the profits made with trading bitcoin and so pay taxs on this, if we are eligible. Funny to see they don't want accept bitcoin but agree to ask us to pay the taxs on it

I'm from indonesia and my country isn't on the list  Undecided. Well that's a given since bitcoin is not popular in my country, i even doubt a lot of people know about bitcoin here, except my fellow countrymen in some bitcoin forum.

that's racist. there has never been any evidence of Nigerian people being scammers. the thing you heard was some scammer from somewhere else who used the words "Nigerian prince" and it caught on as widespread scam and finally as a joke that stuck.

and bitcoin has been growing in Africa for some time now. it started with some advertising over there and then their bad economy helped and eventually the trade volume picked up and it is still growing.

I had no intention to answer in your post, but you are very wrong and it's unfair for rest of people worldwide to accuse them that they are racists because they speak about Nigerian fraud or scam. May be all of these scammers are not Nigerians but live in this country or I don't know why. But, if you make a simple search in any search engine maybe a popular one say Google with the phrase 'nigerian frauds' you will be surprised from the results. The very first result is from scamwatch site where in the 3rd paragraph writes' These scams are often known as 'Nigerian 419' scams because the first wave of them came from Nigeria', period. Moreover I would eager to learn why Wikipedia is writing about nigeria 419 mail scam and maybe BBC is racist news site too? No offense, please.

I don't quite understand where the author got the following data. Why not in the list of Japan. I heard that Japan now claims the second place in the world for transactions with bitcoin, second only to China. Maybe I'm wrong?

Why is the Philippines number 31, I am from the Philippines and I am observing and a witness on how bitcoin becomes a booming industry in the area. I was surprised to see that we are only in the number 31. I thought we are at least in the top 10 countries who are active in bitcoin. Though I am not sure that the order of the list means something but seeing it was a bit of shocking to me.

Please don't be offended because no one is saying the order is accurate. If it was at least close to being accurate China would definitely stay among top three, not on the 18th place. Also I'm not seeing South Korea in the list which is strange because I doubt Romania, for example, has a bigger trading volume.

Indonesian

I can understand that we are not in the list cause our goverment still not forbid bitcoin usage for public currency or investment since our goverment want to protect our people from money laundry which will lead into terorism activity which my goverment very strict about it.
But we still able to trade bitcoin but not as much as other 30 countries on the list

I am from the country #19. People out here mostly don't know a thing about bitcoin but we also have some people related to creating alts (Swiscoin) and there are more than 20 websites on which one is able to buy/sell bitcoin. Some are very complex, you have to make a video of your computer screen when you send btc. Others have worse prices but are very easy to use (email registration, entering the sum one wants to buy/sell, sending money on some adress, recieving what one wanted in about half an hour).

bitcoin is becoming more popular in our country that is why it has been in the list. i know too that it will rank up sooner or later since philippines already has its coin called pesobit which is already acknowledge by the central bank of the philippines.

WOT MATE

Since when did your central bank acknowledge any crpytocurrencies other than giving out countless advisories against crpytocurrencies  and the handling and management of crpytocurrencies financially?

I am from India and you listed in the right position I believe. Not far away from the top 10 and it is the real case actually. In India bitcoin is very popular now and companies (crypto based) have formed within the country in recent years. These companies are offering best trading platforms for Indians and as the value of 1BTC = Four Figures money it is gaining more popularity here. I mostly use bitcoin for trading in real cash and I earn a lot from it.

This is great, India is a sleeping economic giant not only in the bitcoin sense, but in the developing world sense. I have been loving watching the volume go up over time there and hope it continues.

And even more surprise to see China on number 18, this is tenable if the list is not based on high to low trading volume

You shouldn't react like that or respond like that dude Smiley, as you notice as the above title 30 listed countries, in which means Philippines is not belong to that count, it maybe commiseration only that Philippines was listed at 31 countries. And no reason for you to be shock because  bitcoin is not that popular yet in the Philippine that's the reality situation now in your country.

BTC user from the Philippines can make a living through BTC because of the high exchange rate, I can pay all of my house bills
plus extra just from signature campaign alone, the salary from my main job is almost untouched because of bitcoin.
anyway, I`m The Philippines.

Actually yes because of the decent exchange rate between USD and PHP especially with the current kick to around Php50 per $1 when new administration takes place. The downside is, products came from importing will be more expensive.

Anyways about the list, I don't see PH on top 10 even no doubt we have some good numbers here using bitcoin. Why? We are here everyday in crypto world that's why we think that we already reached a good adoption numbers but tried to talked even just with your neighbors or workmates if they know or even encounted the word bitcoin.
