These are nice hubs but 12v 3A power brick is a bit small to feed 10 sockets

It's much better than a Dlink 7 port hub selling for the same price with 5V @ 3A

$30 gets you 5A x 3W = 15w / 7 ports @ 2.1w per port
$30 gets you 12A x 3W = 36w / 10 ports @ 3.6w per port (enough for a twin fury 3.25W@4GH/s!)

No, you must only supply regular hubs like the one in my post you quoted with 5vdc. Only certain USB3.0hubs work with 12v adapters because they have internal power regulators that reduce the voltage inside to 5v

Hello! I understand that USB is 5 volts, however, I have a 12v 2.5a adapter sitting here. Could I wire that in and be okay? Or would something get fried?

I like the layout of the ports, you could easily fill it with block erupters.

Note that this hub requires some modifications for mining use

1) bypass the power switch or rewire it with heavier wire, the original wire will cause significant voltage drop and heating at 3+ amps
2) desolder the tiny barrel jack and just wire your power supply directly, it will probably melt at 3+ amps
3) desolder the red usb wire coming from the host pc to the pcb, this will stop any voltage from flowing backwards into the pc, there are no protection diodes on the pcb
4) solder a 47uF capacitor across the VCC and GND points that are now free on the PCB, the hub "crashes" and stops working if you don't do this step (it worked fine with a usb keyboard but plugging the miners in caused it to stop functioning until power was cycled to the hub)

So if you feel like tinkering, 5 minutes with a soldering iron can net you a hub at $1/port shipped from USA
I have only tried it with five BF1s so far, full load test to come when I get some more time

I've updated the OP with the link to the 49-porter, which is sold separately by WTCR.

I think that this will be my last OP update, unless something revolutionary turns up.

They are still profitable to run with the current BTC price vs. my cost of electricity. However, I seek to reduce management overhead and free up one machine for other things.

Ok, i have a 49 port ASICminer Hub. My issue is that none of the USB cables i have laying around from dead hubs will plug into it. the hub side connector is too big on the cable. does anyone know what usb cable i need to get? Huh

My other Pi handles 20 erupters on 4 7port d-link hubs with no problem.(don't know much about the hub you plan to use)

no it's always the fifth

but i don't know what changed between the reboot

well now it works again

deinstalled all drivers / devives
unplugged everything
reboot
reinstalled drivers
plugged ASICs in the HUB
plugged HUB in another USB Port

now it works and i won't touch it again ;-)

Is it the same stick that fails each time, or just stick number 5?

If it's random then its a power issue.

i had some problems after a reboot ... i only could plug in 4 Miners and the last one never was recognised by bfgminer and in the Windows Device Manager i had a yellow Warning Sign by one COM-Port

best way to check is with multi-meter or as aurel57 has with one of those LED volt meters.

I found also when checking your voltage at the power supply your voltage may be constant, but if you were to check the voltage at the last USB port (furthest away from the power input) there will be a voltage drop. If using an unregulated power supply then the voltage drop will be greater than a regulated power supply.

These are just the plain ol' Anker-style 10 port hubs that nearly everyone has been using. The power supplies that ships with them seem to fade out and then die after running the BEs for awhile.

I replaced the standard 12v 4a supply with a generic 12v 6a supply from Amazon. Certainly that can be no worse than the original power supply, right?

I refuse to mess with rigging up and wiring my own power supplies for USB sticks. I hated doing that with my Blades. It just seems so archaic to me to do things that way. Plug & play or I'm not interested! Lol.

I bought the Orico P10-U3 10-port USB hub with the SW-120400 12V 4A power brick and it worked for 2 days. I tried swapping the 12V 5A power brick from an Anker hub but the female plug connector is a different diameter. Hopefully an $8 replacement brick will make it work.
