If an employee spends work time on personal activities or entertainment, the employer will obviously not like it. And it makes no difference whether you are gambling, scrolling through your favorite social network or something else. In your free time you can do whatever you want, but at work you just have to spend all your time on work.

Whether to follow it or not everyone decides for himself, but we all know how nice it is to do our own things.

That's right, during working hours it is clear that employers or superiors will not like the actions of their subordinates who violate the rules in a company or workplace, especially if they are used for gambling activities, this is clearly prohibited and will be reprimanded. However, during break times, if employees fill their free time by gambling by playing slots for example, in my opinion it will not cause a problem because it is not part of working hours and in the end it depends on how the workers discipline them. gambling activities on time so that it is not a problem while still working.

Of course the boss will take issue with this because they are only allowed to do work at that time and absolutely no other activities at the same time, they are paid by their boss and that means they have responsibilities that they really need to do. However, it is careless or even stupid to do something else in the middle of an activity that is very important to your life, work is something that earns you a living and the salary you get from work is something that has been paying for all your needs.

Besides, I think there is enough time for you to gamble, I understand that you can engage in online gambling anytime and anywhere but on the other hand you also have to have time management where you have to be able to divide the time between time to work and time to do other things, or that means you have to be able to divide things according to their portions.
Bosses will not be happy to see their workers doing things outside of work because this is the same as not respecting their work, if they work it means they have to have full responsibility for their work and have to obey any rules that their bosses, including gambling at work. if I put myself as a boss of course I would be angry if I saw my employees gambling or doing things outside of work because even though it's just entertainment because at work they have time or hours to rest and that time can be used to have fun or it's up to them but When you start working, it's better to use that time to do busy work.

Of course, because you still go home and can do it at home because online gambling can be done anywhere so you don't need to worry if you can't gamble as long as you have internet access you can still gamble, apart from that by gambling at home you can feel the sensation more and can think focused on gambling to be able to gain profit opportunities.

I'd like to share my experience with you all. Even though I'm not currently employed, I went through a phase of gambling while I was working in the past, and the outcome wasn't positive. It affected my job performance because, as you may know, when you lose, you tend to dwell on your losses and constantly think about strategies to win. When we talk about work, it usually means we're not particularly wealthy, and imagine what happens when we gamble money we can't afford to lose, especially when we're not earning much.

Gambling during working hours isn't that insanity? Because your attention would be divided between your job and the gambling you are playing as it will make you not to concentrate in your work place. No matter the passion you have for gambling never gamble at your workplace as anything that would put your job at a stake should be avoided because that's where you earn your major income from so you shouldn't joke with it all.
Besides these days it is really easy to get caught, if you are using a computer or a smartphone that was given to you by the company in which you work, you can be sure they will monitor from time to time your activities just to see if you are actually working as you should.

And if they find out that you are gambling when you should be working, you will have to give a great deal of explanations, and even that may not be enough to save yourself from getting fired.

It makes no difference because both are violating the rules of the company. however, in terms of effect, gambling could have a big effect especially if an employee is getting addicted with gambling as it could result to stealing some company funds especially if he has some access on cash like being the signatory of the company working as a manager or something. I'm sure you heard stories about an employee slowly but consistently stealing money from the company to fund his gambling addiction, but with playing solitaire or any game as long as you are not gambling, that is not gonna happen.

Yeah, you're right.

At the end of the day you have to be smart about your life.

If you are at work, simply work and don't do anything else, gambling or social media while working could potentially backfire at you, so why bother.

It's the safest approach to simply work at your work hours.

It’s surely the safest approach. Why do anything else during work hours than the actual work assignments and for which you’re being paid.
Social media would only distract you from whatever tasks you’ve got and you’ll end up burning more time than initially intended. Gambling in my opinion, is much worse at after placing bets and maybe losing out on the bets placed, it could emotionally affect the person which could in turn affect the work performance of the person.
I doubt anyone would still feel motivated at work after losing some good money while gambling at work.
Well, sorry but I have to disagree with your both of you, a little play while at work does not cause any distraction except the person is lazy and doesn't want to work., during work hours, there is always a break or  lunch time, this time usually is like one hour long or more for some companies, this time is a time a worker can use to do whatever he or she likes and wants to do, like taking a nap, watching a movie, playing video games, having lunch, visiting a friend who lives nearby, escorting a friend somewhere and so on.

A worker instead of doing any of the above in their free time at work might choose to rather play some gambling games, just for fun by the way, this is nothing wrong to do, as long as the worker does not allow what ever be the outcome of his or her gambling affect his or her productivity at work.
When I was working, we usually go and play lotto in a nearby lotto shop in our free time at work, never have the outcome go the lotto I played affect my productivity at work, only a worker who is lazy and doesn't want to work will use outcome of a gambling as an excuse to why they are unable to meet up with their work target.
Your perspective is appreciated, however mine differs. Gambling during breaks can be fun, but isnt there a diminishing return? Casino excitement, even in moderation, can distract me. Intellectual focus, not laziness.

Even casual gambling activates brain reward circuits. These pathways dons turn off at our desks. Even a brief lunchtime gaming session can distract me from work by making me think about outcomes or strategy.

Its oversimplified to say that only lazy people gamble with their output. We're complicated. Attitudes, wins, losses, and gambling thrills affect us. Understanding how these activities affect our mental state is more important than willpower. I like fun gambling, but I also like mindfulness—knowing how our leisure choices affect our work.

I've never seen anyone who gambled at work yet but when the Zynga Poker on Facebook was a big trend, many employees do play that game and I am actually one who did that too. It's not gambling because there's really no money involved unless you buy the chips just so you can play the game more the whole day. That I never did.  Cheesy
Don't do this both, it's just a waste of time, we have our breaks, and we can check our social media or gamble for a bit on our smartphone if we want to but when we sit down in front of our job, we should be focused.

Is solitaire counted here because I play a lot of this game while working since I always have some waiting time when waiting my clients feedback on submitted proposals.  Cheesy

You are lucky in your company that facebook is allowed to access back in the days when Zynga poker is popular. Smart phone is not that popular that time which means there’s no other means to play at work than using the PC. Seriously, Who have the courage to play at work here especially gambling while you will risk tainting your career once you are caught. Worst is you will be banned on companies that has connection to your current employer.
Things are different these days and I know that it wasn't so possible in the olden days, this is even as the casinos you would want to bet with were not many then, so you might not even find the online ones of your choice at that time, not to talk of the mobile version. The companies I worked for at that time though gave computers with internet connection but limited the usage. While the mobile platform to bet was scarce because those who even started then only allowed the PC version, and coupled that the company policy will not allow you to use the internet during working hours, it wasn't encouraging at that hour.

They've set their computer in such a way that you can only have access to intranet during the office hours, and immediately after office hours which was always 5 PM of my local time, you usually have every access to the internet. But still, there is a limit to what you can do with the office computer and internet, or else, you might be speedily showing yourself the very way out of your feeding means. This is not worth it even if gambling was allowed then.

Do you gamble on solitaire? I think you are referring to playing a game but not gambling. That thing could not be allowed as well as it makes employees unproductive but gambling is quite different, it has an after effect that an employee might be disturb when he loss and will not be effective the rest of the game, more so if the act has been repetitive already, it's already causing a lot of resources of the company which does not produce output.

So correct. I can say because I've been there. Not gambling, but social media. It will eat a lot of your time at work and you will never even notice the time passing by until your time at work is almost over and you are not even a little productive. What more when you combine gambling and social media at work? I bet an employee would not even do any work the whole day he is there sitting in front of the computer.
That's why the owner of the business decided to tell our computer technician to make an internet blocker that would stop us from doing it because he saw how low the production was. The technician was successful at blocking it and the owner was thankful that he saw some changes in our production.

yeah right, those who we thinks are close to us sometimes are the one who wanted us out, job relationship most of the time is more on backfigthing, they are good in front but behind us they are trying to kick us out, better not to give them reason to accomplish what they wanted to happen.

If we want to play then we should play after work, use your spare time and money and enjoy whatever type of gambling that we are
involve with, that's the sure thing not to risk your financial source of income.
Yes, many employees give us fake smiles and pretend to like what we do when they are looking to throw us out of the company or office using all the means they can get. We will feel disappointed and annoyed if we are fired from the office because of trivial problems that we can easily avoid as long as we have self-control. We have to take good care of ourselves while working so that they don't do things that could harm us.

We must understand when we can gamble and when we have to work. We don't need to gamble at the office to avoid problems, especially if our workplace provides income for us so we can meet our daily needs.

Yes, friends who don't like us will always have a way to find our faults and if they have found a loophole in our fault they will be happy and report it to their superior, causing problems for our work, therefore it is better to use our times as best as possible so that people those who don't like us have no chances of making our name bad in the eyes the company.
We often encounter this in many types of work. A friend once told me about the tough competition at his company. Some relatives don't like the results of my friend's work even though my friend's boss knows that my friend can be relied on. But for various reasons, his relations tried to bring down my friend. But because my friend's boss knows how my friend works, my friend's boss prefers my friend and kicks his relationship or gets fired Grin

Competition in the workplace is fierce. We will never know who really likes us and who hates us. Those who hate us may pretend to be good in front of us but try to bring us down behind our backs. That is why we should not take any risks at work. If we want to gamble, we should not gamble at work. Unless we are a boss at our workplace, we can gamble in our room and forbid anyone from entering our room if we don't call him.

Yeah, although the thing is that if you manage to do those things in a more controlled way, you might be able to get away with it.
If you only gamble at work from time to time, it's not really a big deal.

Even if anyone is able to handle the office work perfectly and at the same time, they gamble within office during the office hours but does ti allowed by the office ?
I mean will the office give this permission to employees to gamble and do other task while they are at work ? Most of the gamblers will not tell their bosses that they are doing gambling and will be doing it hiddenly. I think no one even have the dare to disclose that he is gambling at work ?

The issue appears when you start consuming too much time. That's the key. Because you lose focus and attention, which are critical and scarce resources.

Of course if you start to give more time to gambling and less time and focus to the office work, it will not only affect your own performance but at the same time, it will have a bad impact on the overall business from whom we are being hired to work on. I still think if you are sincere to your work, do not gamble at the work time. Better dedicate full time to work during the working hours and when you want to gamble, you should not be at the office. There are ample time after office hours where you can gamble and enjoy.

The work is not same for all the people,Some people are at the top position in their office. For them the office will provide the separate work room,So they can easily use the gambling at their work place. But to the gamblers who work as the team members will be monitor by the manager or the owner of the company. So they can’t pay the gambling with peace of mind, peace of mind was the important one for the gamblers to play the good game and to make the big money from the same gambling site.

The friends or colleagues in your company may monitor your game at the work place. They also use that way of approaching manger for the benefit and show your game play to the manger. Finally it leads to the termination of your job.It may be done by your own friends for the benefit of the appraisal and for the abroad opportunity by skipping you by showing the game play in the office hours which reduce your fame to the company.
Yes, indeed someone who work is in a differents position and in my opinion this depend on your position in the office. If you are a manager or superior, then there is no right for subordinates to reprimand you because your rank is greater, even though someone is given the facilities. In his own room he is free to do whatever he wants because no one is watching him unless the CCTV is pointing at his work so the boss can know what you are doing with your worked. And this goes back to the fact that gambling required peace, even if you are bored with your work, you should not gamble at work because it can becomes a bad habit over times.

Of course, this is not recommend by workers, let alone drinking alcoholic beverages, son't do things thats are which is not allowed within the scope of work if you don't want to be sanction or fired for doing thing that are infringed by anyone whose superior will definitely not accepted seeing their subordinate doing that during working hours, unless you do it outside of works then it won't be a problem and won't interfere with your work.

Like I said in my last reply here, it depends on the nature of the job. Some jobs will allow you to do some other things, while others will not allow you to do it, but in all, we should always gamble with discipline. It is not all time we allow it to engross us, we should have resistance to say no too and know the best time we are free to gamble more politely. I am not entirely speaking against gambling at work when the person is free, they can do it if what they want to gamble is so pressing and important. For example, if it is the match that will be late if they do not gamble at that time.

This is still very reasonable, but telling me that you are playing casino while at work for no just cause is so irresponsible to me. It really shows what you are and such may not be serious with his life. Instead of gambling at that time due to freedom, why not use that time to do better your life and do more productive things? Why not read books, watch documentaries if the place permits such, or try to learn new things or seek information that you didn't know. I mean that information that can add value to your life. After all, it will be as though that working hour is not a waste, instead of gambling at that accountable hour.

When we are at work, we are required to work well with good performance, which requires focus from us so we can complete the work given to us. If we use even a small part of our working time to do other things, such as social media or even gambling, we cannot appreciate our work, which has given us money. Meanwhile, out there, there are still many people who are scrambling to get jobs that can make money, but instead, we waste this opportunity by using our work time to do things that are outside our work. And it is true that if someone has experienced defeat in gambling, he can lose motivation to work, which can cause his work performance to decrease. In the end, it will only make him unable to complete his work well.
