before I got married I didn't want my family to know I was gambling let alone my mother, but after I have a new family and get married, I don't want my wife to know because it will make her angry later if she finds out I often spend my bonus money on gambling

but to be honest I don't spend a lot on gambling just for fun except for football betting where I often win so I hide the income from winnings to have fun in the dice roll game

The people around us including our family and colleagues will not understand why we gamble since they can't wear our own shoes. They are not open to the idea of having gambling as a source of entertainment and a comfort zone for players like us so it may not be our intention to keep it but to avoid arguments and judgment, we better not discuss it with them and stay silent about our gambling life. Only our co-gamblers will understand why we gamble but as long as we are dealing with the risks of gambling right and not abusive about it, I guess we should not feel affected by what nongamblers might say.

I really don’t have the intention to hide as a gambler since I don’t gamble to earn a living, but in my workplace seems that gamblers are not well accepted so I chose to stay silent. I don’t want to ruin my reputation either from my workmates that’s why I never open to them about gambling. However, my family knows that I am a gambler and they don’t hate that idea. But in my workplace, maybe I’ll still keep it as a secret to avoid future issues.

It looks like your circle of friends are also gamblers which is why they support you and come to you for advice when they needed help with their gambling activities. Also, I think it's common sense to not tell anyone that you don't know any financial information such as how you make and earn money, to avoid any conflicts and for security purposes as well.

However, have you experienced being asked by someone you know like a friend or a family member that has a bad view against gambling? They are the ones that they could judge you for what you're doing and even stop you even if you have full control of your gambling activities. I do, but I don't listen to them as I earn money this way and even, I lose some, I could afford it since I never overextend my gambling funds.

For those of you who are not the public type of person, of course it will be easy to cover up that you are a gambler. But when we talk about gambling, currently gambling is done freely online, such as slot gambling games and several other games.
Knowing that someone was a gambler, their mindset would undoubtedly go in a negative direction, but that isn't exactly true right now. There are many types of gamblers today, those who are really serious and understand gambling can manage well, but those who gamble just because they want to win they end up becoming addicts and spending a lot of money.

I didn't come to a point that I hide myself from being a gambler. It's ok for me to tell anyone that I'm a gambler but I don't like showing it off to everyone especially to strangers given that they might do bad things to me, It's just a precaution to myself and it is better to just stay low-key. But to my friends, They all know I gamble and I've experience giving advises to them because of their gambling activities or they are asking for help. They know that I had a hard past on gambling addiction and now they are ok with me playing gambling because they know that I've changed and fully control myself. I just remembered that there are times before that they are stopping me to play gambling because of addiction haha.

I don’t really hide from anyone, because in my inner circle I know mathematics better than anyone, and if the conversation comes about gambling, I will talk about it in the language of mathematics. Accordingly, I am not afraid of being attacked by someone.
But in general, of course, I try to keep any aspect of my life closed, since I am not a public person, and the less others know about me, the better. The personal must remain personal. Gambling belongs to this in my opinion.

Usually, in the mainstream media, gambling is really a taboo topic. And being a gambler is not something to be proud of because of the negative connotations that come along with it such as branding gamblers as lazy, irresponsible, selfish, addicts, and have no self-control. The discrimination once people knew you are a gambler is really overwhelming which is why most gamblers prefer to keep it hidden instead of being bashed and hated by many by showing the skeletons on their closet.

If you have a close-minded loved ones, it will be really hard to come out that you are a gambler because you'll just be criticized. That's why I totally understand why some people do not tell their partners that they are gambling. While this is somehow show me a negative side which is lack of being open in communication and transparency, I can't really put all the blame on you.

Hiding it from your fellow church members could be a good option to do on your end because people who worship are sometimes the most judgmental people you'll ever met. They have certain standards and one of those is to display "holiness" attitude that should not involve any type of vices. You might be the subject of their gossip if ever they'll know about your gambling ways, so be always on your guard.

I really gotta laugh when people talks about gambling and religion mixed together lol.
If you're a religious person, it is absolutely pointless to just pray and pray when you yourself knew you're breaking your own religion's rule.
 
I don't see any problem with gambling as long as you're not stealing or killing someone, cause that's obviously against the law of mankind and God.
I am not religious and i don't like any religion either but I believe there is a creator, and I don't see nothing wrong in gambling.

If he is a Muslim, it is better for him not to gamble and to leave gambling immediately because it is Haram according to Islamic law.
Never come close to gambling again, even though he gets pleasure from gambling and can win big.
If religion has clearly explained that it is honorable, then there is nothing to do but stay away from it and promise not to gamble again.
It was much better than playing hide and seek because they would know if he gambled one day.

I also hid that I was a gambler from my friends and mother but the prophet? I don't think you will be able to hide that from him, if you are a Muslim all you can do is ask for forgiveness with the prayers you say every day. I am also a religious person and I realized that I could not hide my gambling activities from the god I believed in.

What is your religion? Is it important that you should hide it from your prophet? Because you just have to keep it yourself and no need to mention it to him.

That's basically the reality these days. When we tell it to people that we're gamblers, they'll have that eyes looked upon us from top to bottom as if we've done a serious crime against humanity. I guess we just have to bear with that conception that they have on their minds about people and gambling as there's no way to change it.

of course my family. Even if I do it just for fun. and try my luck. and I have limits (although sometimes I break these boundaries). but I don't want my family to know the fact that one of his family is a gambler. They won't be mad. but it's about trust. maybe I would be someone they don't trust if they knew the truth about me. that's one of the reasons i hid it. but somehow to a friend, I feel it's okay. so I am more open about this to my friends. maybe I'm not the only one like this?

I don't hide it from anyone and I don't tell anyone that I am a gambler. I gambler online and no one will know unless I tell you about it. If I should hide from anyone, I will hide it from people that thinks that all gamblers are addicted.
Addiction is bad no matter whatever you are addicted to. That is what people should fight against, no fighting not to gamble. There should be control and moderation in whatever we do.

There's a way i wanted to privately present myself before people around me not to know everything that concerns me, the perspective people will take a look on me when they discover i gamble is as an unserious person who waste money on gambling but they wouldn't understand the same benefits i got from this, my mother will turn bad at me in discovering i gamble because she would have thought that i could have gone higher than where i am currently if not for gambling that has been taking away money from me.

What I choose to do with my money and how I spend the money I work so hard for are entirely up to me. Society has different ways of portraying gamblers, typically as someone who are being influenced and addicted, which they disapprove of as a bad habit. However, when they learn you've hit the jackpot, the same people who are close to you will want to be even closer.

There are many reasons why people want to keep their finances and gambling private, but for me, it is simply because I don't want to risk being judged or appearing to be an addicted gambler when I'm not, we all have various ways that we choose to live our lives regardless of how others perceive or see them.

I do like to keep my private life as much as possible private, which doesn't mean that will lie about my gambling habits. When it comes to strangers I will not tell on my own that I like to gamble a lot, but if the topic ever comes up in a conversation I try to be honest as much as possible. With my friends and family it's a different story, they know about my passion ever since it started. Actually it was one of my best friends who brought me into Poker more than 10 years ago and since then we have played a lot together. Switching into other casino games over the years was the natural evolution and I tell my friends about any bigger winnings or losses. With my family I am not going into too much detail, they know I like to gamble and they are fine with it. For me there is a big difference between actively hiding my gambling habit and not oversharing it. Only at work I feel uncomfortable talking about gambling, I will only talk to my colleagues about it during a beer after work, but never at my job and not to my boss directly. I feel like this could lead to negative consequences.  

If you become addicted to gambling, you need other people. You can help yourself, it is impossible.
Sometimes you don't realize that you are addicted to gambling, your close people realize it and probably remind you. If no one knows your gambling activities, who will remind you when you are gambling in the wrong way? You need others, that why human is a social creatures.

earlier I used to discuss everything with  my friends and people around but I realized that this is not going to help.
the only person who is going to help you is YOU. So I have limited my circle and balanced my life.

My family members know I gamble sometimes, I let my close people know about my gambling activities. I think this is the right way because they need to know what I am doing if anything happens to me. I only don't want my coworkers to know I am gambler, I think it is unnecessary. I also don't want my coworkers to think badly about my nature and habits.
