Not every is okay with everyone viewing then as gamblers and the society has quite the negative view on anyone who gamble as an irresponsible person. Some others are not actually hiding, they just prefer to keep what they do private, and I'm still a little cloudy on what you mean about hiding, personally I prefer to keep on a low profile on my habits and you don't everyone to go around showing what they are doing.
People with this mindset should change their thought about gamblers cause it seems almost everyone think same about gamblers but the fact is not everyone will act and gamble in same manner. My mindset when placing a bet will be different from yours so I don’t get why people will have this thought, anyone can choose to maintain their privacy not just gambling but general, most people value their privacy more and prefer to stay hidden. In situations like this you can’t judge if the person is hiding their gambling lifestyle cause you can’t differentiate if the person prefer keeping their habit private or just gambling habit.

The reason we earn money after money is to live a better life.  And when we earn a lot of money, we get a different respect in the society. But gambling is something that destroys human dignity. no matter how much money a person earns from gambling, he lives like a criminal in the eyes of society. So it is always better to keep the gambling secret. If someone knows about your gambling problem then no one will want to help you during your financial crisis because they will think that you will take that money and use it for gambling instead of meeting your other needs. there are many more such problems to be faced
That's the taboo of the society. There is still this bias about gambling and it won't be changing anytime soon.

It's because society sees the wrong people that they've been destroyed due to gambling and they've lost themselves from it. With all of the people who have been gambling and having some decent amount of wins, they're not seen as bad as the others.

As long as you make money if your main purpose is to make money out of gambling, you are on your own. And from the community itself, many will tell you not to do that and just gamble for fun. So, there's always the taboo if it's related to gambling.

I agree with your thought. If gambling was universally accepted or if it was not considered as the lowest form of society then gambling would be positively accepted by all. But in the present situation, if someone gambles and is seen by others, he is ashamed of himself and others will make negative comments about him, which no gambler can take lightly. Moreover, it is true that gambling in public will disturb the gambling concentration which is annoying for the gambler. I myself try to stay away from the crowd when I'm gambling so that I don't have to be bothered by others. Moreover, there is definitely a need for a secluded environment to increase concentration, which will allow me to better resource my gambling activities.

with many people having bad thoughts about gambling, it is because many people have had their lives ruined because of gambling, but even so, that doesn't mean it's entirely caused by gambling. I think that those who experience life ruin because of gambling are also their own fault for gambling too much. If indeed all gamblers could control themselves so that they did not experience serious problems with gambling, perhaps gambling could indeed be well accepted by society.
The problem is that most gamblers cannot control their greediness and at some point they become addicted to gambling. When gamblers can't control themselves, people start to have a bad idea about gambling when they see their behavior. This is how gambling has acquired a negative perception by others. If gamblers could control themselves in gambling then people would not have bad idea about gambling. But the current state of gambling is so bad that even the gamblers know how society views them when they gamble. Gamblers nowadays often prefer to gamble in disguise so that no one perceives them differently. In gambling does not only have its negative side but also has positive aspects as a gambler spends his free time by gambling.

This is extremely normal for people participating in gambling in public places. In the post, you did not mention where the area you are talking about in the story is? Is it legal to gamble there? And usually, according to my personal knowledge, most countries do not allow people to gamble for money in public places.

Besides, maybe their family and acquaintances are near the area where they gamble, so they don't want their acquaintances to know that they are gambling with large amounts of money. We cannot know whether any of them are taking money from their family's expenses to participate in gambling, so I think that is also the reason for them to hide their gambling.

In short, concealing gambling has many causes, but most of it is related to legal, social, financial and psychological issues of the player.

Besides as long as a person is gambling responsibly, no one else has any business knowing if that person gambles or not, an odd notion these days taking into account that many people share almost anything about their lives in social media or to anyone that is willing to listen, which is why anyone that keeps some sort of secret is viewed as suspicious, but at the end if a person does not want to share those experiences, they are within their rights to refuse.

I think so, people are more concerned recently about everyone's lifestyle how they gamble and where they gamble. However, it's not a bad notion. Concealing a habit or living an isolated lifestyle is not always good. People need to be aware of some things. At least when issues arises they'll be people to testify about the player's lifestyle. Hence, it's crucial for gamblers to select few trusted people and let them know about their gambling habit or lifestyle. But in this context on the Op the players already are enough acquittance to one another.

No way, all of them can't get addicted same time. If they're educated on responsible gambling strategies, information on ways to avoid addiction can be circulated while they gamble in isolation. I think that such gamblers who engage in a game with friends don't need to share further information about their gambling habit with family members. His friends will easily get the message to his family if any issue arises. It's only advisable for a solo gambler to discuss his gambling habit with friends.

He can actually use "hiding" because gambling is kinda stereotypical in many climes and you can blame the society but the irresponsibility of many gamblers. Many are too idiotic with gambling and have wasted their fortuned to it, so the wide scope of view is why some people might actually be hiding. Also, some irresponsible gamblers themselves who are already addicted to it could be hiding after much advice from people despite it affecting their lives. These are the two most important reasons why gamblers could hide, while the third could be for personal reasons. Some people are just introverts and private personalities, they hate people knowing whatever they are doing even if they are the most responsible person on the planet earth. To them, they will always prefer to play in their closet, but for me, we can't particularly call this hiding, it's just their preference.
You are right, the society one find themselves in matters, if those guys are from society where people see gamblers as irresponsible people then I don't think they'll want to do that openly, security too matters since a huge money is involved like the OP said, maybe they're hiding it from attraction of the public or maybe they're gambling secretly to avoid distractions from the public or so.

Religion has a role in that too, religious leader who gambles would not want his follow brethren to notice his gambling habits especially when his Religion doesn't tolerate gambling, also a gambling who comes from a family were gambling is prohibited would not like to be caught gambling in public, sometimes it could also be peoples personal decisions too, those are the things i think makes people gamble secretly.

In my opinion, sharing information about yourself and your hobbies on social networks is not a good decision, because none of us knows who may be interested in us and what the disclosed information may lead to in the future.

But I do not see anything wrong in the fact that my neighbor knows that from time to time I like to gamble. We are all different, but if your hobby does not contradict common sense, there is no reason to hide it from your acquaintances. Personally, I think so.

Yes because one of the reasons is that it is something that is private or it is something that should be kept private and not published in the public eye, especially if we are talking about gambling which as a whole usually has a negative point of view in the eyes of society where maybe they will assume that you are someone who has a bad personality because you are involved in gambling. Besides, I don't think there is any benefit in telling people about your involvement in gambling.

Regarding what you experienced maybe your neighbors don't really care about whatever other people do including people who are around them like you, but I don't think you should think positively because there are always people who don't show their feelings of dislike with reactions or facial expressions but they keep it in their hearts or it means maybe it could be that after your neighbors saw or found out that you were involved in gambling then they kept their feelings of dislike for you but with a normal face like nothing happened. Another thing is that I agree with you that if our hobby is not against common sense then there is no reason to hide it but if the context of the conversation is gambling then I think hiding it is much better.

But we are actually seeing the different thing on which most people would really be sharing up even with those personal life activities and other stuffs on which it is really something that exposed yourself into the public and that would really be compromising overall safety for you as an individual because we dont really know if there's someone who would really be threatening your life or something like this. As for hiding yourself when it  comes to gambling then majority of us doesnt really like for someone or other people would really be laughing or having those kind of discrimination or negative words towards them and with us who do get involved
with it will really be that not liking those things and this is why we do really tend to hide it on.

Actually there's nothing wrong if you would really be coming out and doesnt mind about other peoples saying on which its not really that a bad thing to be done. There are really just that different type of people who
do really give out importance with those things and suddenly change up and there are ones who dont really care about other peoples sayings as long he/she would really be doing on the things that they do
want to do.

Personally I do gamble occasionally and don't like to put it out there for everyone to know what I do because I respect my privacy but unfortunately alot of humans  out there are very judgemental on how others live there lives which is something I avoid.

So I guess the reason for people not putting their gambling habits out there could range from privacy, avoiding the shame from losing, avoiding sharing winnings with others who might know of your good luck and want a piece of it, avoid others knowing ones financial standing etcetera.

We know how people are sophisticated with their information and safety too but some of people also use gambling as another source of income, some of the casinos really offering a good deal with the referral system and if you know to yourself that you have a lot of active friends playing gambling you can also earn with the use of them with the affiliate program of the casinos. In my case, I just share the casino I'm playing with but I most likely disclose the number of deposits I made and withdrawn.

That makes sense, indeed if we gamble in places where we shouldn't it can interfere with the gambling we are doing, because I myself also feel that when I gamble and there are other people who ask questions and even order me to do other things, it feels annoying. Therefore, gambling seems to have to be done in supportive surroundings, such as in a private room or other place that has a calm situation.

Yes, the general public often views gambling activities as a negative activity, as well as those who gamble, they are always seen as bad and considered irresponsible people. So there are some of them who choose to keep what they do a secret, and I'm still a little confused about what is meant by hiding, personally I prefer not to show off my habits too much and can't just show them off to everyone. What are they doing.

because it is important to remember that everyone has their own personal or private life, and the decision to reveal or keep a habit secret is an individual's right. And not everyone feels comfortable talking about the activities they do. While it is true that some people may choose to keep a low profile about their gambling habits to protect their reputation or privacy, that does not mean that they are doing anything wrong. The most important thing is how someone manages their gambling activities responsibly, without harming themselves or others.

The major challenge with gambling is the public condemnation of the act of gambling because many people believe that when someone gamble he or she is not responsible that is the reason why most People prefer to gamble in secret and keep it off the public space since they probably want to look responsible.

But for me, why I gamble in private is because of the fact that gambling can sometimes attract unnecessary attention most especially when you manage to win big, everyone one will want to share in the win when you gamble in public.
I agree with your thought. If gambling was universally accepted or if it was not considered as the lowest form of society then gambling would be positively accepted by all. So at this point I decided to bring it here to know or see different views from different intellects here on why do some people hide just to gamble or if it is the best way to gamble ?.

I thought this things happen only in my community but it seems it's happening everywhere. Despite the civilization, some cultures in my community still see gambling as a taboo and shameful act and this makes people to feel ashamed and embarrassed when gambling, hence, they hide in a quite places to play such games. During our childhood days, we spent a lot of money on buying WHOT cards because elders usually seized it from us when caught despite that we don't normally play with money but purposely for fun of the game.

Consequently, we look for a very private place where no one will suspect the presence of people in order to enjoy our game. When the place was discovered, we received beating and our cards were seized. The drama continues like that until we all got tired and stop playing until the advent of mobile versions. Ever since, I hardly see younger ones playing it. Not too long ago, I saw some group of boys playing it and guess what I did, I seized it too. Let the tradition continues.

I don't think anyone is ever proud of being fondly known as a gambler, but these same set of people haven't done anything reasonable aside wagering their life savings, without having any foresight about the consequences... Oh well, " I've seen cases where the husband vows with his life never to gamble away the family support funds, but leaves very early with it, plus any other available cash he lays his hands on, to the casino house "

Infact, what do y'all think is the main reason why the major renaissance has been on casinos overtime? Isn't it about protecting the user's privacy from the public? People barely go to casino houses - unless it's specially beautified in some ways.

There are some gamblers who are proud to be gambler. Just look at the fact about most popular professional poker players, do you think they are not proud of what they achieve in the poker gambling industry? Of course the number of people who proud to be known as gambler is small compared to those who prefer to hide it, but we cant say that no one is ever proud to be known as gambler. The point is, if gambling or become a gambler can give someone positive effects (mostly about financial or popularity), they will be proud of themselves.

I agree in this context. However there are also successful poker players who don't go boasting about them being such good players as they want to keep a low profile and enjoy life with all their financial benefits they get from gambling. Most normal people though hide it as gambling for them has only provided misery in their life yet they are unable to stop so they keep going with the false hope of winning back the money they have lost, that is the only difference which I agree with.

The right to privacy still exist, even if it is under attack from all angles and all the time by governments and the media, and while a great deal of people have bought into this idea that keeping any kind of secret is bad, this is not true, if a person wants to keep their gambling a secret then that is their right, as no one is obligated to share aspects of their lives they are not comfortable sharing, and if that includes their gambling activities then so be it.
That right to privacy can help them hide their gambling. But they must really be able to control themselves well. Gambling in secret can have a bad impact on them because when they gamble more and become addicted, no one will know.

That is the right of a person who wants to keep his gambling secret. We cannot force someone to tell the truth if they gamble. We can only advise them to be more careful when gambling. There are risks that they have to bear in gambling and not many can do it.

If they care more about themselves, they will try to reduce their gambling activities. They know that gambling is risky so they have to really take good care of themselves. Otherwise, they will experience gambling addiction later.
