As time progresses, ICOs become easy to develop, and hyping them or advertising them has become easy too hence the large amount of scams happening today. But because of this, we need to be very careful when it comes to investing in ICOs, it's so much easier to fall into the trap of scammers.
Those types of scammy ICOs are the ones that we need to be more aware of and we need to put a spot light on them because these are the ones that will fail in 2018.

I think the main reason for this one is because the number of ICO project is too huge at the moment, everyday a lot of new ICO projects published, you can take a look at Altcoin section, there are thousands ICO project in here. Beside there are a lot of scam ICO project so to find out a good project to invest in at the moment is very difficult.

I came across this article
https://www.financemagnates.com/thought-leadership/ico-will-fail-2018/

And wanted to know if you agree -- are these the reasons why ICOs will fail in 2018?
What type of PR strategies do you look for in an ICO? What types of things create the most buzz? What things are old news?

Thoughts?
Actually in these days it is easy to create the project and run ICOs in the market of Cryptocurrency and also many platforms are available to make revel advertisement of the ICOs , so may people are creating ICOs project and selling tockens and making lots of profit by selling tockens , but in actual we can see few ICOs scammed people , so here we can expect that the chances to scam the people with ICOs are much possible , so we need to aware from such types things .
Here I am not saying that ICOs are scam and not profitable , these are running Because these are profitbale as well as Better for the people to start own business easily with ICOs investment .
A big example of such things is that China plan to ban ICOs exchange and also by another countries , in last 3 month lots of rumours was like this and also happened at big extent .
Since these are our need but still we should investigate perfectly and then try to invest otherwise we will loss in ICOs much , regualtion and rules harder may can solve these problems and will make the ICOs more better thing in the future otherwise ICOs like project will get fail in the incoming days .

Probably ico may fall in 2018 because of the experience people are witnessing being scammed by some ico not delivering what they promised and as a result losing their money.

Some countries are banning and relating ICOs like China and Korea and now UK. ICOs may fail but they are already Cryptocurrencies that has been circulating so I think ICOs regulated and Cryptocurrencies are not.

I think the other way around. This is only the beginning and many more years to ago , who knows the future is digital currency, we never know the trend setter. Just i can only advise invest in good product based ICO's , they will give some return else we all are free to dump and move ahead. Just its the matter of making choices. Invest good, feel good and wait patiently, this is all about this industry.

I think a lot of projects are still preparing their tokensales looking back at 2017 projects' success. But least of them will get any reasonable funding cause all the traders will be busy with checking delivering the results by first projects they invested.

I hope we will see some nice projects in 2018 still.

hopefully this will never happen because too many people are disappointed because of it and how the fate of those who have followed the ICO from 2017 to 2018, whether their work will be in vain. ??

Also note that there are ICO angencies such as ICOBOX, KickICO and more who support only legitimate project's ICO's,  so I think there will be less scam in ICOs

Regulators are getting more involved in cryptocurrencies and they are starting to prosecute scammers. However, tighter regulations may render most if not all benefits of ICOs moot. And that could kill off ICOs.

Does anybody know or remember the reasons for the dot com bubble bursting? What can ICOs learn from them, if anything?

While these reasons are vital in conventional fundraising, they do not really matter in ICO. ICO with no PR strategy, no social media activity, just some idea and backed by popular people have raised hundreds of million dollars. Those are not the thing needed to run a successful ICO.

But I do agree that ICO might fail in 2018. The reason? Governments start taking them down.

You can't say it for sure for every ICO in 2018. Look at the current situation. Less then 5% of ICO reach their hardcap. But we still have those 5% which are sold our in minutes.  ICO is still one on the best way to make an easy money, so I don't think the situation will change much in 2018.

ICO toptal funding is dropping everyday. We are getting less participants as too many people already in ICO tokens and still waiting for ROI
So 2018 will be really good for ICOs cause we will only fund the quality ones.

This is better for the investors and for the ICOs, those that aren't up to much won't get funding and then in time we should only get better quality ICOs. It's a good point that many are still waiting for returns, I never really thought of that before, it would explain the cyclical nature of such things.

I read the article and the arguments the author used are valid for any time not only for 2018:
- Being too complicated
- Not spending enough time/money on media buying
- No effective PR strategy
- Lack of creativity
- Insufficiant social media activity
These are common causes to ICOs failure at any time not only 2018.
But I admit that it becomes very hard for ICOs to succeed and few of them reach the soft cap because the lack of new ideas and creativity
and the lack of marketing experience.

The writer of the article was right base on what I have seen concerning an ICO which was launch on this forum but lately end up to a failure due to ICO team being too complicated, lack of good market strategy and communication.

I never heard about some rumours that ICO's will fail in 2018 but that might be possible since may ICO's are often turn to scam leaving many investors. There sure a lot of ICO' s that have come onto this year alone, 2018 might be filtering some good and potential ICO that would run in the crypto market. Failing might happen for some ICO but it doesn't mean some might stop totally, ICO's will keep coming, I guess.

Its like those days when ponzi schemes that uses Bitcoin is all over this forum and then members here finally learned how to spot the ponzis and the non-ponzis, there will also come a time the people will get tired of ICOs promising the moon and the stars but fails eventually. Even Vitalik is not in favor of those ICO and he believes most of them are scam.

Don't know if I find that really fair to say. Vitalik did a big ico himself with ethereum.
