In my humble opinion, Bitcoin has gone way down since I learnt about it in 2011. Not down in value but down in quality. It used to be that for a tiny little fee you could transfer bitcoin instantly from 1 address to another. That's not the case anymore. These days if you don't put a substantial fee through you end up waiting days for your bitcoin to get through the system. The cost to transfer your Bitcoin and the waiting time is killing the currency.

I doubt an altcoin will replace bitcoin but I do feel like it will be able to run head to head with bitcoin in the future. I have no idea which coin though, I guess time will tell.

Does it make sense to believe that Bitcoin could one day be replaced by another cryptocurrency, that is, a cryptocurrency that really does make Bitcoin obsolete?

For my opinion that is impossible because bitcoin is now more getting stronger than the other cryptocurrencies. There's no other cryptocurrency that match to a bitcoin even in the future I predict that the bitcoin is always no.1 cryptocurrency.

yes you are right that it is impossible that bitcoin will be replace by some other cryptocurrencies because bitcoin is getting stronger and stronger than the other cryptocurrencies as looking at the price of bitcoin and also bitcoin popularity took much time and now many people are attached to the bitcoin and i think the bitcoin will be always no.1 currency in competition with other cryptocurrency.

Although Bitcoin is slowly growing in popularity, despite all of its various problems, there remains a certain psychological security in a currency held in one's hand. Moreover, fears of hacking, viruses, and other attacks on the entire financial foundation of a nation via purely digital means will likely make most nations slow to adopt such a form of currency

I dont believe it can be replaced due to high ammount invested over it, but at the moment there are better coins to do any transactions, charging a low fee and nowadays with the financial issues over the world we need to protect our money, using bitcoin has becamed worse then paypal to low ammounts.

the psychology of an investors was they would go to the more reliable and stable crypto. bitcoin will be their first choice as it is the well known in the field of crypto currency. but yet there's a lot of alternate coins that has a lot of potentials.

I think it will be hard for them to replace the btc.
As we can see now, the price of btc was too far from the other cryptos. So there's still no one could ever replaced the btc.

No cryptocurrency will replace BTC since they are all just an altcoin of BTC. Theirs no way for a 1800$ worth of coin will be replace by new cryptocurrency since bitcoin are now world wide.
Of course, bitcoin is the king of cryptocurrency and all the altcoins have to convert its price to bitcoin, that show the value and power of bitcoin, so we can believe that altcoin will not be able to beat or replace bitcoin for a very long time. But the future is unpredictable, every day there are so many altcoin born and maybe in the future there will be some coin that can win bitcoin. I think that can happen, the problem is only time, I believe that nothing is forever and sooner or later the bitcoin will also be the past

Indeed the future basically nobody can define, because it is the absolute future can only be known by God. But if we look at the technology of the bitcoin, I think it's a great advantage to progress or for those of us who want to keep a small part of the bitcoin for the future. For if I see from your existing data, bitcoin will become viral and greater than now. Because it's very lucrative, visible bitcoin so be someone that has some future so bitcoin can benefit

Certainly this can happen. But this will take time. Bitcoin has a first mover advantage. The market cap of bitcoin is almost $28 billion. No other cryptocurrency is even half way of it. Moreover, bitcoin is the most popular one too. Yes, there are cryptocurrencies which are better than it in many ways. But still they have long to go to overcome the pace of bitcoin.

Compare rates on different exchanges & swap.
Very likely if the current high fee & unconfirmed transaction aren't fixed. Taking way too long to send or receive Bitcoin thisdays. Heard Litecoin has solution to the problem with the recent segwit adoption thing.
Wonder what is delaying them from using the Litecoin services. Competition really needs to be encouraged otherwise Bitcoin may never fix its problem.

Perhaps in a few years another currency will be able to displace and destroy bitcoin, but while it is leading and developing. At least this year will definitely live.

I think Altcoin can not replace bitcoin but yes their are some good Altcoin that can be used in place of btc like monero,Torcoin ect.
But bitcoin is the king of crypto and hence can not be replaced.

Altcoins never replace bitcoin, because the coins that grew once after the existence of bitcoin too is under critics and have never reached high. Recently few altcoins pumped high generating a hope among the users that it might replace bitcoin which is simply an impossible fact.

yes you are right that altcoins will never replace the bitcoin because the bitcoin supporters are increasing with the high rate and also the investors of bitcoin are increasing regularly and also the price of bitcoin is as much high that no one altcoin can reach the bitcoin and for altcoins to beat the bitcoin it will take much time and very difficult task.

Absolutely correct, there is no any chances that bitcoin will be replaced by other crypto currency because of the major reason that they are just an alternative coin. Altcoins are just being made to support and lift BTC, they may have a unique feature but they it is not enough to beat the foundation of the father of digital money.
We have different perception, as for me there is a small chance bitcoin will be replace by other coin.
It will happen when we will not support bitcoin because we see there is a better one so it is possible but could take time to happen.

Very difficult because bitcoin has reach to masses now and every one knows mostly about bitcoin irrespective if they own it or not that is different story. While on other hand there were 1000's of altcoin created last year and if you check only handful today exists or have value in market. What happened to those which were supposed to be atleast there for some time but now disappeared. Even some alt coin to come near to bitcoin will take a decade unless suddenly bitcoin goes down or pump out by China.

Everything is replaced eventually.
That's possible but the question is when?

That's easy. As with all things, when something better comes along bitcoin will be replaced.

The technology, computer science and programming world doesn't sit still in a vacuum. It won't take as long as people believe.
Who will take over then, I guess Ethereum has a greater chance, it was my bet because I believe in the team behind ETherem and Vitalik was a genius man, he has the passion of what he is doing. If you compare the price there is a big disparity since the adoption of bitcoin is bigger and wider but as you said there will be a change in the future so it makes sense if I will hold some alts to prepare for that time.

Bitcoin cant be replaced by other coin. we all know that bitcoin has some major problems to be fixed but the project is the main root of all the cryptos. bitcoin will always be the known cryptocurrency. but for some instances if the bitcoin is replaced i bet it would be some coin that have potential with their own codes that hasnt copied on the bitcoin's.

No one can say exactly what will happen to bitcoin in a few years. To date, he is the strongest, but after a while he may die due to the fact that they will create a more perfect coin and users will stop making deals with bitcoin.
I agree with you. As of now, bitcoin is the strongest and most stable coin in the market for long years but there is always a threat for bitcoin because a lot of people now are using altcoins and those altcoins has its unique features that can be better than bitcoin so after a few years we will might see a better coin than bitcoin.

In my view, the future of Bitcoin is unpredictable because the constant activities of the world are spontaneous - the event of a new president or the outbreak of a civil war somewhere will influence the increase and decrease of the coin.

Not disputing that there is a chance bitcoin gets replaced, but I very much doubt it will be ethereum. Just about all the problems people see with bitcoin, like governance, scaleability etcetera, ethereum has as well but with more complexity. I don't understand why people don't seem to realize that Ethereum has not actually solved anything yet (and no, a centralized dictator enforcing his will is not a better solution). Ethereum does not scale better than bitcoin, I don't understand why people try to push that idea, (just look at the size of the blockchain for a full node). And their choice to make the chain muteable was a horrific move and clearly shows the centralization problem in ethereum, why even bother with the hassle of a distributed chain then? Listening to a number of developers and their frustration with getting anything remotely serious done with it, I'm more and more getting the impression that ethereum will never be able to live up to the hype and has some serious limitations in the way it was designed that will not be resolved by any fork or update.

Last but not least a number of those devs complaining about ethereum seem to be hyping up for a new blockchain project that apparently does not suffer the same problems as ethereum. If what they tell me is even partially correct, ethereum will be first in line to be replaced within the next few years.

Ethereum doesn't solve the scaling issues but it does add a lot more features to crypto than bitcoin does. If as you say bitcoin may be replaced but not by ethereum then which coin are you suggesting that should be? Litecoin because they have segwit? A completely different coin? I believe most of the alternative coins would have the same scaling issues if it was adopted in mass.
