Dislodging Bitcoin is a difficult task but not unachievable. There have been a lot of other alt currencies (litecoin, etc) that have been popping up, but don't seem to have what Bitcoin does. I think down the road potentially, it may replaced bitcoin. Although, we must not forget that it’s been just a few years since the bitcoin came into existence and there’s still a long way to go.

The majority of the people are simple users. With simple users I mean that they don't need all kinds of altcoin features that don't see any real world usage. People just want to earn money, spend money, and invest money. Bitcoin serves people very well in that case. Only negative aspect that Bitcoin has right now is that it cost so much in order to send transactions. Especially when the network is getting spammed with transactions as happened just now.

I think its very possible given enough time.

The main challenge I see with BTC is scalability.  as well as feasibility for micro payments like IOTA.

This competing of digital coins is healthy and will continue to create better and more efficient platforms like ETH or NEM.

This is not to mention the threat of quantum computing on the horizon.

Maybe, because people need to exchange and history has demonstrated: the exchange of goods, using precious metals, money and digital cash

Maybe what you are trying to say is change not exchange? Also history tells us that we change for a development. And the thread specifically ask if Bitcoin will be replace by another cryptocurrency not by other means not related to it. What I know is that even if there are better altcoins out there they will still pick Bitcoin because it is the most widely known among any of them.

Obviously bitcoin can't be replaced by other crypto because bitcoin is so much strong. And people has started to believe on bitcoin.Bitcoins high price took it into another level. And bitcoin giving us so many facilities which makes it more stable. When other crypto will give more facilities than bitcoin can be replaced.

Bitcoin is stronger currency and it has their own importance in the market due to their price and demand, people have more trust on bitcoin than other crypto-currencies but replacement of bitcoin is not impossible because price of bitcoin is not stable and fluctuates with time, so may be in future some other crypto will go higher in the market with reference  to price and replace bitcoin or may be bitcoin's price will drop in future as it dropped from 1150$ to 730$ in just few hours.

In the my opinion, the Bitcoin will still dominate in a few years. Currently the value of Bitcoin is huge. It is most common to many people, some countries have recognized the currency Bitcoin. However,  in the future, no one predict what, Bitcoin can be replaced by other cryptocurrency, Eth and some other currencies is promising but that is a very long time anymore. The important thing now is Bitcoin still great value
Maybe you right, bitcoin will be the number one of crypto-currency but there are some new altcoin that have really good features and I a'm sure that it's will growing too.
I agree that there are good coins out there and the will rise in price and popularity. What most people seem to ignore or just what they do not see is, that other coins then Bitcoin can do other things and so the coins can coexist, since every coin serves a different purpose.
Several projects with different reasons were getting initiation regularly and growing good in a short, but people are not focusing much towards those. This will change eventually which might make other such coins grow similar to bitcoin. Same as bitcoin getting into such a big growth cannot be expected, because during those days of bitcoin seems unique and grew soon. Now everything seems unique but the competence is very high.

Bitcoin is the king of digital coins, and it has been around from the time when there was no other currencies like how much there are now we can see in the markets, so they wont be able to even come near bitcoin in terms of price or popularity, they run because of bitcoin but bitcoin does not run because of them.
It cant replace buy the other crypto right now or in the next few years because of its cool aspects and characteristics! But we can say that it is possible soon but now it is impossible!
As of now we can really see that most of the other altcoins doesn't even got the price as half as bitcoin so for now this query is really from realistic.

Right now we could see a drop in price and this could even continue when governments decide that it is time to move against Bitcoin. A lot of people will tell you how they still would use it, but i think they talk BS, especially if the price drops heavily. If government just take on Bitcoin but not all cryptos, then people will quickly find a new coin.

I don't see that happening any time soon with the calibre of coins we have here nope. But in the future, I see countries now developing their own crypto currency which might reduce the dominance of bitcoin in respective countries but I still don't see nay other dominating or replacing bitcoin..

i think a time will come when bitcoin will be the first priority of the people to use, and not only for the online purpose but in real life also. if we analyse  the bitcoin and other crypto currencies we can come to the conclusion that still bitcoin is the number one currency of the world, and hope that bitcoin will continue its status for ever.

I hope so too. As Bitcoin matures every day, it becomes used by more people, increasing its popularity and ability to reach mainstream status. When scalable solutions like SegWit become active, Bitcoin would surely gather the attention from people who are new to cryptocurrencies, to transact with Bitcoin for everyday payments. Unless another cryptocurrency comes up with a stable and innovative technology that it is out of this world, as well as address Bitcoin's issues, then BTC would remain the top cryptocurrency for years to come. Just my opinion.  Smiley

Does it make sense to believe that Bitcoin could one day be replaced by another cryptocurrency, that is, a cryptocurrency that really does make Bitcoin obsolete?

Why not? If Bitcoin is unable to keep up with the needs and requirements of digital transactions of a growing userbase and on a global scale (ie. transactions per second comparable to VISA's scale), there might be a successor that expands on the innovation that Bitcoin has originally introduced. That is not to say Bitcoin will be replaced -- but it certainly could be, and in the long run, it would surprise me if there are no serious competitors evolving that will question Bitcoin's superiority.

Only Ethereum is able to do this at the moment. I do not know may be in the near future there will be some kind of giant and will bypass all alternative cryptocurrency, but so far only Ethereum is a competitor for the top spot for Bitcoin. You have to understand that now the age of technology and Ethereum is a flexible technology unlike Bitcoin which is digital money.
Everyone thought that Bitcoin was going to be overtaken by Ethereum, but that never happened and hopefully it never does. Ethereum isn't really even a competitor for Bitcion. The price of it has been fairly static whereas the price of Bitcoin has been going up frequently. I doubt there will be an altcoin, capable of overtaking Bitcoin, getting released in the near future. Bitcoin definitely has a long life ahead of it.

Etherem was hyped up by people, what do you expect? These people are just spreading all these good stuffs just so their investment will yield profit. Today, if someone said that bitcoin will be replaced by ETH, people would mostly disagree. But back then, when ETH was just released, a good part of the community believed ETH's promise to replace bitcoin. Yet here we are. Roll Eyes

Even though ETH wasn't able to replace bitcoin as of now, we can't dismiss the fact that all of these altcoins have a chance (although some are terribly small) to replace bitcoins someday.

Even looking almost impossible, bitcoin is letting some problems accumulate, and this can make the market swicth into another altcoin thas has less issues then bitcoin has at the moment, eth, litecoin and some other new coins are ready to replace bitcoin, the only thing they need is big investment and support since there is a huge difference between bitcoin and others altcoins.
I agree and think that an altcoin could replace Bitcoin and that there are also other good coins out there. Bu i do not think that such a coin would need a big investment. What it needs is good support by the users and developers and most important it needs to make a name and get to be known widely.
No only a good name and known widely is not important for a coin to get the place of bitcoin but in actual only those coins can get the success which will have a lot of investors and most of the companies voluntarily adopt bitcoin for their business.
the parameter of how good certain coin are on how much merchant adopting , how large community and how much demand growth every year. until no w there is no altcoin can beat bitcoin greatness. it's like when people start speculating about how fiat could replaced by bitcoin.

No, because the original cryptocurrency is bitcoin and its the most famous cryptocurrency

Bitcoin getting replaced by some other digital currency, because none can be potential as bitcoin. Only based on bitcoin other cryptocurrencies grew, so always the one who initiated will be the leader.
