BTC could be at $1 million in two decades so it could remain as the main price driver of altcoins. Let's keep in mind that we're witnessing a shift in the global financial structure with BTC more and more involved. It's not hard to think that more companies will convert some of their assets to BTC to fight fiat inflation brought by pandemics and coflicts among countries.

What do y'all think? Will BTC price movement continue to have the same effect on alts price in like 10 years? 20 years maybe? Let's hear some expert opinions.

seriously these topics need to be richer in terms of content. but to answer your question:

yes, even if 10 or 20 years pass, altcoins will continue to be dependent on bitcoin, and whenever the price of bitcoin increases a lot, then the price of altcoins in relation to bitcoin will fall a lot and will only recover when the price of bitcoin becomes stagnant

this scenario will not change even if years pass, even if it is 10 or 20 years

I think that it will have an impact on the market as a whole and through it on altcoins. The more altcoins there are and the more mature the market becomes, the less of an impact it will be, but you can expect alts to react negatively to any problems bitcoin might face. One reason for that is regulations and laws are made mainly for bitcoin. Politicians by saying bitcoin mean the whole crypto market. If Bitcoin is banned somewhere, don't expect alts to become legal.

I still think that there will be a significant impact from bitcoin for the alts after so many years. The price of most alts that has grown up together with bitcoin will also be in line with it.
What are you thinking right now? Are you going to invest to those altcoins that has the potential to grow together with bitcoin? If that's what's on your mind, still do not forget to have bitcoin.

Without any doubts. Bitcoin gives all directions on this market. It's called the king of crypto universe for a good reason: for being the original cryptocurrency among all, which gave origin to the whole crypto market we see right now, with more than 2.01$ trillion dollars marketcap.

If it wasn't for bitcoin, this market probably wouldn't even exist or on the best hypothesis, marketcap would be much inferior, indicating without bitcoin, crypto market becomes unreliable for investors.

As long as Bitcoin dominate the crytpto space it will indeed have a strong effect no altcoins. Maybe if ETH takes over BTC things might change but then it will be ETH that is going to affect altcoin prices. The most dominant crypto will always have that kind of effect on alts in the end. Whether it is BTC, ETH or DOGE it doesn't matter. There will always be a lich king.
Altcoins have less real use cases than bitcoin so probably, bitcoin will always take the lead and keep dominating the market. And as long as bitcoin dominates and makes the most expensive price, altcoins will always be influenced with bitcoin. However, the market is still very uncertain in the next 10 or 20 years, if an altcoin surpasses the status of bitcoin, then that altcoin will create an effect to bitcoin.

I think the correlation of bitcoin price movement with the altcoin market will continue. It has already become like the backbone of the crypto market. Bitcoin has a primary influence on altcoins, and also serves as a kind of hedge for crypto investors. For example, when bitcoin goes down, altcoins go down in value, when the price of bitcoin corrects, many investors pour their liquidity into altcoins. When bitcoin has a major price crash, it pulls the altcoin market with it.

This direct interaction mechanism will continue. It is also worth considering that on cryptocurrency exchanges, altcoins are traded in tandem with bitcoin. This also imposes a certain imprint on the correlation of bitcoin market with altcoins.

In 10 years probably at least 80% of the alt coins we have now will be long gone. I wanted to say 90% but I din't want to exaggerate. Also in 10 years bitcoin's volatility should be way less than today, so I still think that the whole market will be influenced by bitcoin movements, but I don't think we'll see -40% movements.

Even if you said 99% I don't think you would exaggerate. The vast majority of altcoins have no use at all and are either scams or childish money making schemes. I think even some Bitcoin forks are more useful than the 99% of alt coins out there.

Bitcoin and altcoins aren't in the same market yet most of their price follows Bitcoin price movement. Have you ever wonder about why is that happening despite of the price and market difference? If you can't answer your own question then we can't answer your question too if you want a different answers. Tongue

So the answer would be we don't know and why's that? It's because most traders tend to switch to altcoins if the Bitcoin market would make a move but it's not applicable to all altcoins since there are some that are worthy that's why most of them follows the Bitcoin price.

Most likely yes, because alts are just knock-off Bitcoin that use marketing to divert investors from Bitcoin to them. For all their existence, alts have struggled to be independent, meaning they failed to actually deliver something useful - and I don't see how it's going to change, I only see how alts just get better marketing, because the people behind them got crazy rich, so now they can do multi-million PR stunts.

So, when you see a new altcoin and it advertises its unique and ground-breaking features, ask a simple question - do ordinary people on the streets want those features? Or is it only interesting to a bunch of crypto bros who want to get rich quick?

Yes, Bitcoin will be the major driving force in the cryptocurrency market in the next 20years and more. The reason is not that it is the first crypto we have in the market and the reason is that Bitcoin is the true decentralized and no censorship coin. Thats the major reason why a lot of crypto enthusiasts have more confidence in it than all crypto we have in the market.

It will only happen if Bitcoin's dominance is falling deeper than ever. Because they are the world's most popular and top-used cryptocurrency in terms of market capitalization, most of the altcoins (with the exception of stablecoins) are being influenced by Bitcoin's price movement since the beginning. Not even ETH can take over BTC because it focuses more on the Dapps rather than being an alternative payment system alone due to the exorbitant gas fees.

In my opinion in the next 20 years bitcoin will still be the main thing for other altcoin price movements.
Even though you are not sure I still believe that the movement of bitcoin will continue to have a big impact on other altcoins because bitcoin is like a tiger among other altcoins.

It's going to stay the same until(and if) the market matures sometime in the future. Though stablecoins like USDT definitely have sucked a good amount of liquidity from the BTC trading pairs, BTC is still mostly at the top when it comes to trading volume(with Tether reigning).

Yes definitely.

Altcoins are basically alternative coins used instead of Bitcoins. Many new altcoins with the various algorithms, and consensus with additional features such as lower fees, high-speed transaction confirmations, etc.

All altcoins are initially evaluated in Bitcoin. Which then can be evaluated in other coins according to Bitcoins price in fiat globally on CEX and DEX.

As Bitcoin is the prime currency and the higher price of Bitcoin limits small equity users from accessing it. Altcoins are the better solution for small-scale users to invest in to receive higher ROI.

Effects in which regard?

Effect in the sense that:
1.  When the price of BTC went to the 60k region, Solana moved to $240+ then when BTC regress back to the 30k region, Solana dropped massively to $80+

2. When the price of BTC went to the 60k region, ETH moved to $4k+ then when BTC regress back to the 30k region, ETH dropped massively to $2k+

3. When the price of BTC went to the 60k region, Algo moved to $2+ then when BTC regress back to the 30k region, Algo dropped massively to $0.8

These are few of the effect BTC has on alts. Hope you now understand what i mean by 'effect'

Well Bitcoin is a big gun in the crypto space; it take a while for someone like me to start realizing that there other coins or tokens here apart from Bitcoin... And I want to believe there is always anl impact Bitcoin has generally on the market whenever it rises/fall.. So Bitcoin can be a major determinant here!

I personally believe that BTC will still influence altcoin price in that timeframe, but to what degree will depend on bitcoin's dominance on the market. Since I currently don't see altcoins that can even remotely endanger that I think that bitcoin will set up the pace for years to come.

Bitcoin has been taking lead over all other crypto but I don't think it will by any means determine their fate in succeeding as a currency as well, but base on the present situation of what we can see, bitcoin prize is not the determinant to altcoins price but it influence can alter little changes in their speculations
Little changes? If bitcoin suddenly drop by 50%, rest assured that huge majority of altcoins would go down by 90-99% and would seal their fate as many of them don't have any utility at all. We've seen it back in 2018 and it would be the same thing all over again.
