How do you define long-term investments though? Because you could be holding for 1 year and make profits and see it a long term already. But in my experience specially in stocks, I have a minimum 5-10 years holding. So just imagine how long someone will hold let's see BTC for it to be a guarantee returns of x amount of money. And also remember that bitcoin unlike any other asset in the market is very unstable, so you have to consider that.
I cant imagine myself holding 5-10 years, I am already weak hands if that so? I can only invest for only 1-3 years or waiting for the next halving but when talking about BTC then for sure I can hold it for that years. I am a new coin investor and I am always looking for a new good project that I can have to invest and most of the are not in long term project still I am earning money on it.

What is happening in cryptocurrency is exactly what happens in live. Businesses florish. businesses dies! A coin is doing well, then it got hacked! There is no guarantee of any Altcoins and Bitcoin for long-term investment but one thing is sure about cryptocurrency that risk and reward ratio is quite higher than any other investments I feel so and a high reward ratio attracts the investors that can take risks. if what you want is guarantee and safety i think it's better if you stake stablecoins instead, it is low in apy but it is safe and good for those who don't want to lose money to fluctuation. but it's more suitable if you have big capital so the profit is not too small. but if holding long term you can be patience and not easily get distracted to sell your holding then maybe it will work. just choose what you feel better for you.

Personally speaking, only a few altcoins are guaranteed to survive after a few years from now and it all depends on what kind of project they are offering which is the fundamental aspect if you choose which altcoins to invest your money with. The highest assurance of the list of altcoins that will survive is the NFT coins which will really grow if the game they provide is the best and has lots of players playing their games every day like Axies and Splinterlands.
