This is not even a question, as far as I am concerned and as a fellow Nigerian it's illegal for someone below the age of eighteen to partake in gambling of any sort in Nigeria, so if he played this game in a Betting office as an under age the owner of the shop he played that game can be involved in this case.

Firstly I would say gambling platforms in Nigeria are getting it wrong when it comes to the age restriction there is no policies to prevent underage from gambling, anyone can just step into the shop or go online to gamble with is wrong. For now I think the big case here is that the boy is an underage gambler .

Well i don't even know what to say. I think this is one of the most foolish things anyone can do to themselves. If this gambler had worked this his school fees himself maybe he would have had the wisdom to know that the money was gotten through toiling and should all if he want to gamble should be put into it.

This kid friends are definitely a bad influence on him. If they aren't at least I know he would have opened up to one of them who would have advised him against it. But I think he friends may have supported him and cheered him on.

Always read the Terms and Conditions on a gambling website.

There is no way the casino will return a bet that has been lost, this is a ridiculous request but the boy by contacting the platform hopes he has some hope of returning his money, maybe something like that. LOL

The child must be supervised, otherwise he will be addicted to continuing to bet again if he has money from his parents.

I think the question actually should be, how did the media got to know about this incident?, was it the betting company that shared this incident with the media, or was it the boy himself, who ever shared this with the media is the one who shared also shared the boy's image, and in this case, I think it's the boy himself.
I don't think it's possible for casino companies to spread to the media, but my guess is that this man has uploaded his video on tiktok until it goes viral so that the media finds out because the video becomes FYP and then spreads it in his article.

Seeing this video has been watched by many people, namely more than 250k.

The little boy may have a case against the casino if only the casino is a licensed casino and also if the have full KYC rule implemented, but from the look of things is like the buy gamble unverified and that is what he was able to bypass the age restrictions.
The news is incomplete and this will definitely lead to a lot of other questions, as the age and location of the boy are not mentioned to know if the country is casino-friendly or anti-gambling, which also can increase or kill the chances of the boy getting any help.

He playing dumb after losing his money. Anyone who bet is expecting to win and if this boy wins, he will get the money.  But this will teach the kid a lesson about risks.
While I agree that his money is not to be refunded for him to learn his lesson.  It is too mean to post the image of the boy, whoever posted the image of the boy does have the intent to shame him.

Now he has to answer to his parents while his parents will also be put to shame.

Judging from the fact that he is still too young to understand how important privacy is to one's life, most especially in this generation we live in, he probably shared this on one of his social media account with his pic, and the media finding it an interesting story took it up.

What annoys me is that he started crying and begging for a refund after he blew everything away. They will not listen even if he were at a mature age to gamble much less now he's underage. I wonder if he'd have sent the message had he won. Probably he'd take his winnings and go brag about much of a risk taker he was that he had to use all of his school fees..
Another thing that irks me is I'm sure he didn't seek the help of more experienced and mature gambler, who knows he would have been guided against it.
His actions just go to depict how immature and childish he is and even if there was provisions for a refund, I won't even consider his request because at his age he should be bothered about his academics and if he was so hellbent on tripling his funds, why not but some BTC and DCA? Too bad that because of his carelessness his education will suffer.

How did a 16-year-old boy end up on a gambling platform? Looking for money? At that age? That's a bread flag on it's own, that boy should care only about his studies for that age, the parent needs to handle that boy before he turn into something they will regret later on, I mean what the hell is wrong with kids of today? They are always in hurry to make some money, what is he trying to use the money for at his age?

The casino also didn't do well, they shouldn't have allow any underage of 18 to sign up on their platform and gamble, it's the boys fault to use his school fees and I don't feel pity for such person, this will serve as a lesson for him and also, his parent will be able to know what he is up to right now.

This is how children lose their heads at a very small age and they will start skipping classes, if I own that casino I won't listen to the boy, he deserved to be punished by the school or by the parent, there is time for everything, he is too young to get serious with gambling.

The casino platform has a ToS which clearly states that all players must be over 18 years old and players must be aware that the money they spend on the game cannot be refunded for any reason. So the casino platform does not have any responsibility to return the money to the child because it is in accordance with business procedures.
This could be a lesson for other children that gambling is not a trivial thing. Gambling is very risky that their money can be lost at any time, so they must understand that gambling is risky and they should not approach it.

The only one who has broken the law is this 16 year old kid.Now this kid has not only lost everything in his school fees but he could also face some sort of reeducation in some reeducation centers if the casino is bad enough to open a case against him for cheating on the platform.

What this guy should do is ask for pardon to his parents and keep his head down, forget once for all about gambling and be focused only with his school and lessons, like his friends do at this age.

It the casino will return or refund the money, then it will set a total precedent in the gambling industry. As much as we pity the boy and what had happen to him, the fault is on him, he shouldn't gamble the money in the first place.

And again, so this is a lessons for everyone that we shouldn't gamble money that we can't afford to lose. Otherwise, there will be a bad consequences and you will be put on a lot of mental stress. And there are instances that people go as far as taking their own life because of the money that they have lost that is supposed to be assign to something very important in their lives.

In the gambling platform, there are different stories every day across the world. This 16 years Nigerian citizen used his school fees to play bet and was planning to win big amount so he can use it to solve other problems but along the line he loss everything and he went to the contact of the company and begged them to refund the money back to him because it is his school fees. Is it possible for the company to refund the money to the boy? As for me it is not possible because the played the game and loss. And also the boy was too small to gamble because gambling is meant for mature mind because you have you to face things like and when you loss, you have to move on. And these are some the reasons why casinos always specifying that before you play gamble, you must be above 18 years plus  that is in short form 18+ some people and sportsbooks ignore this warning and this is one off the result. Click the picture for more information.

If I were the owner of the gambling platform, I would not yield to the kid's request, It is a bad precedent and it would just encourage minors to gamble because they can always request a refund if they lose their bet, in the first place even if the minor win they should not allow the minor to cash out, again it will encourage minors to gamble.
The gambling platform should be very strict in implementing its rules and they should never allow minors to gamble if caught they should confiscate it to discourage minors from gambling.
Here in our country, we are very strict if the platform is caught letting minors bet the government will impose a heavy penalty, the gambling platform should call out the parents of the child so they be the ones to discipline him.

The gambling internet is littered with these stories. Some of which are even worse than these and there will be more.

I want to put it that the school lost to gambling is the tuition the boy has paid for his naivety and silly just to put it mildly. For the rest of his life, he won't ever forget thos experience but whether this painful experience will make him quit gambling until he is mature enough, that is why we do not know.

And no gambling company will refund any money lost no matter the story that has been told. It is always stated on gambling websites for their customers to gamble responsibly. Therefore, they cannot be held liable for any loss incurred.

Smart is not enough, there must be skills
It was purely the fault of the 16-year-old teenager, how could the platform return the money that had lost the bet, it was obvious that the child seemed to be addicted.

By sharing on Tiktok, isn't he ashamed of himself because many people mocked him? How will the family and school respond knowing that this child has lost all the money for school in gambling? This is clearly a very fatal mistake.

The funny Grin thing is that he bet on a Man United match and lost, was it against Crystal Palace?

I don't think so, since before you can sign up, there's a rule that you must be 18 years above in the terms and conditions. The boy ignored this agreement and gambled his school fees. In my opinion, once the Sportybet company refunds the money in this case, many will copy this kind of scheme. Or the boy will not learn his lesson. Who knows what will happen when the company refunds his money? What if he gambled it again? I hope he will not bet again and resolve his problem by working or helping his parents pay his tuition.

As long as betting or gambling is concerned, money lost is lost, regardless of age or whatever be the main purpose of the lost money, casino can never return such money to the gambler, even if the parents of the boy drag the casino to court, lost money can not be returned in gambling or betting, even the law recognizes this.

So the boy should stop chasing clouts, he is even underage and shouldn't have an account on any casino in the first place, this is one of the reasons why it's important for kyc enabled casinos to ask gamblers for kyc verification before allowing them to deposit to the casino, not just ask kyc when withdrawing.

I doubt he'll get his money back unless the gambling site knowingly allowed the teenager to gamble on their gambling site, then the kid can try and report a complaint against the gambling site and ask for a refund(or something, not really sure what are the consequences if a gambling site knowingly allowed a teenager to gamble on their gambling site). I hope this incident becomes a lesson for that teenager, using school tuition for gambling is a huge NO NO! As always, only gamble what you can afford to lose.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a young man encouraged to share his betting experience recounted how he used his school fees to place sports bets. In the viral video, the man said he has not been lucky with bets placed on games and gave a practical example of playing Manchester United which had been on a losing streak for the past two games, only for them to win eventually. He stated that betting has brought him trauma, but he insisted on continuing with the hope that he would recover his money someday
saw this part in the article, that kid(from what I understand this is a different kid) is going lose more money. A lot of gamblers who think like this will end up with more losses than wins. I just hope he starts to realize when to stop and give up the losses.

This little kid should know the risk by using his school fees for gambling. The gambling site is not even making a mistake here. I meant if this kid would not gamble his school fees and that's fine, nothing happened with the gambling site.
That's pure kid's fault. That kid can try go bet till he will pass 18 years old and he will able to withdraw his money after he will able to fulfill KYC requirement.  Cheesy

Even though if the site was refuding his money and what's gonna happen if the gambling site was forcing him to verify his identity to withdraw his money? The better for him to apologize for his mistake and ask his mom to pay his fees school.  Grin

The kid won't even care to read TOS. he is only caring to play and beg to the site once he will lose his money. What a poor kid. He should be able to do better with his money.

The guardian who let their kid trick them to verify the casino account should be the one to blame here because he can’t play in the casino if no one will give him the id to verify his account before he can make any deposit.

Na, I don't thinks it's the guardians that should be blamed here. Parents aren't always aware of their kids in and out. kids these days tends to play smarter. As long as they have a mobile phone which is normal, there's nothing impossible for an underage kid even to register on these casino or some adult sites. Restrictions don't hold them anymore. It's funny to see the boy begging the casino to send him back his fund. This typical shows why children shouldn't be allowed to gamble. They will create problems for these casino any time they loss.

As Cantsay has said, he won't get the money back, but maybe some celebrities might just be pitiful to assist him with his school fees. I guess that was his plan initially before making his loss a trending story.
