I'm not really good at explaining, and i don't really understand well about this but i'll try to tell you.
In my opinion, or what i think, ico is like the time when a project starts to sell their token or coin. They do this to collect money for their project to success, and we are the investors. We buy their coin or token and invest in it. Usually, ico is succesful if there are many investors and they get many btc or eth. And if the ico is success, there will be many people want to buy the coin or token, and that time we can sell our token or coin at high price and gain profit.
That's all i know, but i may be wrong too. Please kindly correct me if my statement is wrong.

Hello, everyone. I have some knowledge about ICO. But I want to know everything about ICO. Will you please teach me What is ICO? I don't want to know the Full meaning of ICO. I want to know details of ICO.

Advanced Thanks a lot, all of you who will comment here Cool
The fund that is provided before a project starts.  Just like a lot of people said, there are so many scams out there, but that doesn't mean that all ICO's are scam, there still exist a few that don't scam.  You can do some research and invest in a ICO that doesn't scam and you probably can get some profit.
Yes, there is a lot of ICO's that are turning into scam and we should be careful in investing in ICO's and to be able to avoid or prevent the scams then we should do a lot of research about the particular ICO and we should read the whitepaper carefully and examine the teams that behind of that project so we can only take smaller risks.

Sure, is it realistic all of the 300+ altcoins would be successful? NO WAY. Most of them are going to fail, it is inevitable. It is only a matter of time. And all the money goes back into Bitcoin... as usual. Bitcoin is the king and it will stay that way. LONG LIVE BITCOIN! hehehe

As everyone told you about these that not every ICO are legitimate to make money so may be you should aware in better way before to invest in this field of cryptocurrency.
Here ico means that sell of coin before launching or before the complete of the devlopment of the coin .
Here are the Google words
Initial coin offering (ICO) is an unregulated means of crowdfunding via cryptocurrency. The term is often confused with 'token sale' or crowdsale, which refers to a method of selling participation in an economy, giving investors access to the features of a particular project starting at a later date.
It means that nothing is sure whether in what amount is available in the market to use but owner sell directly without any scaling price also .
But in these days it is common for most investors to invest in ICOs because ICOs investment are now like the simple trading of the coins at exchange , At most of the trading sites we can get better and easy way to buy and sell in ICOs that means totally like the trading at exchange with any coin ( but can't transfer from exchange ) .

ICO stands as initial Coin Offering it is a form a form of investment through crowndfunding to fund their project proposal through service, ICO is not merely a product as what some crowdfunding and kickstarter did but a service of a cryptocurrency or a blockchain and their coin act as a token of their service some abused the ICO for scamming purpose but some ICOs had good intentions.

An ICO means initial coin offerings to start or crown fund a currency thst wasn't release it the market yet. It's selling their tokens or coins with discount that's not even release in the market yet. An ICO only gets legit if there are a lot of investor of the token/coin but if it's not they turn out to be a scam im planning on investing in this kind of platforms ever. Imagine the risk of investing in an already existing altcoin. How much more can a non-existing one? It's like investing in cloud minings.

When someone says Ico it is Initial coin offering but don't just invest into it much better if you make an research about their company their projects and before they will launch since they're lots of scammers who just created a project that will offer an good income once you invested their some of icos nowadays are not that good. But when you analyze first and make an research before you will do investment you will see the differences.

Technically, ICO is something that is offered at a discount price when it is launched so if some company is willing to launch their XYZ coin or token, instead of directly launching it on the exchanges, it would go through ICO mode. If the expected price of XYZ coin in 1000 Satoshi then during ICO, the same ICO is offered at a lower price (it might be anything like 25% off). It is like rewarding those who are adopting that coin in the early phase and taking a risk on it.

However, not every ICO is genuine that means, ICO announcers run away after collecting money from others without proceeding further so if you come across any ad on Google, Facebook or anywhere (I am sure most us are included in the targeted audience) then do a deep research before investing even a single Satoshi.

ICO is just a fund raising platform for a specific a coin, the main objective of an ICO is to raise funding and contribution through proper advertisement for the project from public who are willing to invest in. Some ICOs are very promising but some of them are scams, so it is always be a huge risk to invest in an ICO.

What ICO means? it is a Crowdfunding. ICO is raising or opening because they want to raise a particular amount to fund their project and so the investors or participants who will join is like a contribution for the project to be successful and to move on in its designed or planned projects after the successful ICO.

Basically Initial Coin Offering or ICO rom what I undertand is a way of a project to crowdfund their project by offering tokens or coin to early investors before it wven hits the market. In that way, ICO participants will have the advantage to get more tokens with discounts compared to what will the price of the coin in the market once it's realeased. they use the money they gather on ICO for further development of the project and sometimes for marketing as well.
highly agree, some people tend to say that this are also schemes that intended to scam people, but i don't think so. maybe few but not all of them, since there is no improvements without risking money or risking something or anything to move forward. so far from the previous ICOs that has being launched most of them are already successful.

Quiet odd for a Senior Member to ask about on what is ICO but well I would answer you.. ICO (Initial Coin Offering) is one of the ways of the devs on scamming people  Grin This sounds funny but this is the reality because having ICO would really make them money and some of them end up on scamming people. This ICO works as a crowdfunding on a certain project.

That is really sad of you for diluting the idea like ICO in the pool of scam! For me ICO is one of the best form of crowdfunding. No doubt company is always the one that makes most profit from ICO but still investors can get huge returns if they choose right project.
Unlike IPOs where investors get stake in company's capital, ICOs enable investors with cryptocurrency which become separate entity from company once ICO ends and gets its value from market demand/supply. However, company indirectly affects the coin value even after ICO and if company's project integrates coin, it may raise future value as well as demand of coin.
yes, sad to think that there are other people who did not fully understand the goal of ico. some ico will have the intention to scam people's money but they will not succeeded. you dont have to invest in every ico that will launch, of course you have to choose the best for you.

ICO = "Initial Coin Offering"

Quite simply, it means when a company/business is launching their altcoin or token to the public for the first time, you can buy it during an "ICO". It is like when a company goes public on the stock market it is called an "IPO", or "Initial Public Offering". Hope this helps. Smiley

Yes you are right. ICOs sell a right of ownership (coins) to a project. During an ICO, the investors buy the coins of the company. These coins can appreciate or increase in value depending on the project if it becomes successful. As for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) or stock market launch, the shares of the company are sold to institutional investors in order to raise the expansion of their capital.

The initial coin offering concept designed to distribute the shares of the particular project to the people who are early investors in the project. That's perfect time for the investors who are willing to invest and get paid back for their "risky stakes" into that particular project. It will also represent you as "shareholder" of that entity or organisation who offered you the token/coin in the initial offering.

You can follow more about the ICO here :- http://www.investopedia.com/terms/i/initial-coin-offering-ico.asp

ICO - Initial Coins Offering  This is the start of new Altcoins and this is also your chance to earn a great deal on Investment or Bounty to give them a great advantage of those who have been here before and if you are going to be your millionaire first. But be careful because not all are true and can only be foolish to get us btc. So it's better to be careful when looking and before going through everything they can do in the world of crypto and in our lives.
