ICO or initial coin offering is launched by the developers or group of people to get some funds for their project so they don't need to put their own money and also to seek to other people because they just need to set up an online website and put all the basic and common information that is needed for the possible investor so the investors can understand their product or project.

You can look on ICO in a different way.
It is the easiest way for new small companies to go on the market. To raise funds to improve the job.A very good opportunity for all startups
Earlier it was done over Pink sheet market, But it is necessary to fulfil certain conditions
Of course, As everywhere there are those who are trying to deceive the system and scam people for money. Not all can be marked as scam because of few idiots
I agree that the whole idea of ICOs is genius and very useful to encourage people who have deep thoughts and low funds to give it a try. However, I don't think that if there really were only a few idiots scamming people, icos would have such a reputation which they have now. Unfortunately, I believe that mostly these projects are done to rob people by the newly released coin being dumped. And yet some coins appear to be standing for some real ideas. Like waves, for example. Nobody dumped it and it really offers people some unique things with customizing tokens.

ICO = "Initial Coin Offering"

Quite simply, it means when a company/business is launching their altcoin or token to the public for the first time, you can buy it during an "ICO". It is like when a company goes public on the stock market it is called an "IPO", or "Initial Public Offering". Hope this helps. Smiley

To my knowledge ICO Extension of Initial Coin Offering. Initial means the earliest, Coin means digital token / coin and Offering means bidding, when interpreted in its entirety means the earliest coin offerings before launch into the free market. ICO is usually offered by the developers where their goal is to raise funds to develop the project they do in this case is a digital coin. They need funds to maximize the projects they undertake to quickly develop and be quickly completed.

Hello, everyone. I have some knowledge about ICO. But I want to know everything about ICO. Will you please teach me What is ICO? I don't want to know the Full meaning of ICO. I want to know details of ICO.

Advanced Thanks a lot, all of you who will comment here Cool
Generally you have to know more about every single ICO you invest in. It really depends on a lot of factors like the developers, the investors, the project itself, it's purpose, etc. So there is really no general rule for every ICO. You will learn it along the way as you invest in more ICOs.

ICO is a strategy to scam people like when they ask you to send them your coins to double them, all are possible because of ETH and blockchains like it. there I just taught you in details but will you have enough or just going to get scammed or scam people after learning?
Very well said but there are ICOs which are still promising though even its already famous when it comes to scam purposes. If you aren't aware or careless enough how to spot a scam ICO then you will surely lost your money. Back to topic, ICO is crowdfunding which a certain project do need funds in able to established or develop it and when it succeed then its really an advantage for those who have invested their money on.

ico is no different than an airdrop or the old giveaway that were plaguing the ANN in the past, the difference is that you need to pay, and therefore they are not free

they are also very similar to IPO, that were very present in the past years, now this changed to ico but they work essentially the same, avoid ico that are only small contract for eth and maybe focus on the one that have also POW like ETH...

ICO has become very popular lately as there are so many projects now taking advantage of the ICO platform to raise funds for their ideas and to add more capital to existing business. Right now, the legality of ICO is still grey as there remains to be no black-and-white legal framework which it can stand on. Nevertheless, its popularity is very noticeable.

ICO means Initial Coin Offering and this is almost similar to the corporate IPO (Initial Public Offering) where project proponents are accepting money/funds/coins in return for tokens of the project. ICO in many cases does not signify being co-owners of the project and this is something that should be cleared later.

Well said, my brother.  " ICO" is a ripoff term inspired by "IPO" from the stock market.   And just like the stock market,  most suckers don't make money investing in them.  It's even worse on crypto because of the lack of regulation and the general scamminess of those involved in them.  I wouldn't bother sinking a penny into any ICOs.
Some of these coins are trading quite well and people who have bought them made money. ICO is just a way of funding, it's not always a scam and it's not always honest. It all depends on the people behind the coin. It's like a knife, one guy will cut bread and another will use it to stab you.

ICO basically means initial coin offering. this is where a ceratin project is offered in the crowd to be funded. this is where the investors buy the coin of the project if the project is good and if it would help the society.

An ICO is what it stands for, an initial coin offering.

These are conducted to raise funds for the project through the distribution of the token or coin for another coin (either fiat or BTC).

Whilst it parallels with an IPO, this does not entirely represent giving up equity in the company as these do not have a share value. ICO's act rather as a blend between crowd funding and an IPO.

Many of the above comments refer to these as scams however they lack insight into why these can be used, and the benefits of these. By hosting ICO's, new projects are able to generate funds which assist in the development costs and the capital required to get a system off the ground. These are not free.

More systems brings more users, which in turn leads to more exposure for everybody in the market. Ethereum is good for the longevity of bitcoin, and for the value of this. If you hope to see Bitcoins success you shouldn't bash every competitor in the market.

ICO's could have many parallels in business and finance.

An ICO could be compared to OTC derivatives bought/sold by banks. That may be a controversial statement. An example of a derivative is subprime mortgages. Banks take derivative assets related to mortgage markets (and other things) & tries to profit by selling them at inflated prices the same way an ICO takes an derivative asset related to crypto coins and attempts to sell those at overinflated prices.

It might be fair to say, the name of the game isn't building wealth or value so much as it is selling things like subprime mortgage derivatives or ICO'ed coins at prices inflated past what they're worth. Whether we're discussing regulated markets in the case of derivatives or less regulated markets in the case of alt coins, there isn't necessarily a difference. Regulation doesn't make markets safer or decrease fraud, it only raises the bar to entry for anyone who isn't filthy rich to not participate.

ICO is basically a kickstarter or a crowd fund raising for a new coin project. There are scams, but there's still a lot of legit ICOs out there. Investing in existing coins is really risky already, imagine investing in coins that are not even out yet and only few people knows.

ICO is like a call for capital contribution of the project, each project has an ICO. During the ICO, they will sell their coins, and after that, the proceeds will be used to develop their projects.

Basically Initial Coin Offering or ICO rom what I undertand is a way of a project to crowdfund their project by offering tokens or coin to early investors before it wven hits the market. In that way, ICO participants will have the advantage to get more tokens with discounts compared to what will the price of the coin in the market once it's realeased. they use the money they gather on ICO for further development of the project and sometimes for marketing as well.
