Many people say that you should work hard if you want to succeed in life and rise to riches. I'd rather say that working hard will only make your boss richer, not yourself. On the other hand, there is an age-old adage which says that you should be working smarter, not harder. But working smarter is a vague idea, and I'm interested to hear what people have to say on this topic. As far as I'm concerned, I think that working smart comes down to creating environment where you will have more chances to meet Lady Luck smiling at you, where you will be able to hit a lucky strike because luck plays an ever-important role in our lives. For example, if you want to find a date to have a romantic relationship with or you are looking for a one-night stand only, you will go to a beach or a bar since your chances are higher there, right? The same approach seems to be applicable to work as well. In other words, stick around the places where your chances of success are the highest.

So share your opinions here, guys. What is your practical take on working smart?

I always tried to combine both aspects in order to have a good outcome. Working hard so as working smart is a better combination.

Hard worker only tortures himself, better to work smart though lazy but very clear comfort purpose and result. While hardworking only rely on muscle and do not think with his own brain. Wink

You should always do both. Working smart is finding efficiency to reach your goal. While working hard is still necessary to take advantage of the more efficient process. Working smart involves going out of your comfort zone and working hard involves sticking to that one path, despite resistance from your environment.

Hi,

I think you are right.. and wrong.

I think you are right when you say that working harder won't do. That's what your boss wants you to believe, but indeed, I think it is a lie. Just because working hard is never as rewarded as it should be. Because we are living in world in which being young and beautiful is much more important than being smart!

I also think you are wrong when you talk about luck. Because your boss (and those of very large companies) are perfectly aware that they are in such position thanks to their luck. So they tend to close their network, to make golden paths that lead to domination... and are completely unaccessible for anyone out of their private "leading sphere".

I hope this can change. But I think this only way it may change is that we fight. We will never get a fairer situation if we are not ready to fight for it.
And I think this is true in all countries, no matter their GDP!

Working hard is different from working hard.
How are these two different from each other ?

Good one buddy. If you are hard worker, both of your boss and lead will get as much work from you.In single word, they use you for they growth and development. If any one in your team not working well, your lead ask you to complete it with patience. But the fact is you are fool.So I would like to be a smart worker and still I was as like that.
Just because you work hard that doesn't mean you're a fool. One reply that you can read above said you can work hard and smart at the same time which is true. It still doesn't hurt to start working hard if you don't have any experience or knowledge on how to work smart.

This is an interesting question to discuss. Working smart is at least more pleasant than working hard and I believe that it is also generally more profitable. However, I don't think that relying on luck is smart. It is truly risky. I think that smart work is rather about thorough development of the ideas, high level of rational success predictability, not luck attraction.

I agree because you'll never know when will luck come to you it could be today, next week, month, year, decade, etc.

Everyone has the ability and expertise different there it hangs work use of power and there are working to use their brains, and both her to work together as people who work smart need someone who could work hard, because without a smart then work will not be completed so was the opposite without people can work hard so work will not finished

Even when we have heard several talks about working smart, but a lot of people are still work hard thinking that someone will have to teach them to work smart or they are thinking they are working smart. Quite a number of times, I am always taken aback when I begin to imagine what people spend their time on to earn money, struggle, use their strength but nothing to show for it while they are left with no other option than to believe in miracles in other to come out of penury. However, working smart is not something that falls on you or easy to come by, rather its a conscious effort to break away from the shackles of poverty with constant research and education, you are sure to work smart and be financially independent.

I wholeheartedly agree with your comment but here I want to discuss more practical aspects of being smart in respect to how we earn our living. Indeed, you can't just decide to become smart and then fake it till you make it. It is more about your actions, not about your ideas. We all know than working smart is better than working hard, but what distinguishes one from the other in real life? In other words, I consider this thread as more of a practical guide to being or working smart rather than some abstract and mostly useless musings over the matter, something which you can take home. An example of that I have given in the OP. This is the approach which I try to follow myself but obviously it is not the only possible way to get there.

In deciding to work smart, its actually depends on the field you are operating and not necessarily one have to be involved in crypto after all, people have been working and making money even before the advent of cryto and would continue to do same if crypto is no long in existence.

For example, an accountant working for an accounting firm to gather experience in that chosen field, working hard would mean getting early to work everyday and closing late, ensuring client delivery, going to work on weekends in other to ensure deadlines are met, getting up to date about the current happenings in the profession only to earn your salary at the end of the month because there is no other time to do some other things.

However, working smart would mean that in the midst of doing all of those things, you have a separate venture on the side where you build your client base, if you are working in an audit firm, set up business that is into accounting software installation and training ( to avoid conflict of interest). Another is to start negotiating on commission when you bring in a new client or negotiate a new fee with the client beyond certain level. That is working smart rather than working hard.

Work smart is what we are doing now with cryptocurrency and working hard is what we were doing before the advent of blockchain technology. Blockchain technology enable us to do everything in a wise way and more advanced ways than what we were doing then.  Therefore, being smart is better than working hard.

People who work smart sometimes takes advantage of people who are working hard. There are some circumstances that these people gets lazy and get to pass all the work to the hard working ones.

Its true that you should work hard in order to achieve what you want but also take in consideration not to over do your work, being smart at work is a must to do your job properly and right.

I prefer the term "Love Your Work" over "Working smart" or "working hard". Love Your Work makes you working smart which leads to working hard.
If we notice working smart better than working hard because:

I would really prefer this line "Love Your Work" compared to those two because if you have this you would really lead up to work hard and work smart which would be a good tandem if you done these both things on what you are doing. Why would choose up on having one if you can able to work hard while you work smart. Might be different on some scenario but these can be actually compress.

My opinion about these two things is that smart work works with the mind to use with little effort. While hard work works to use more time and extra effort for the same results. But in the modern era where internet is increasingly used for all activities I agree to work smarter in order to use a more productive time.

Smart working requires less time and less effort, but imo it's about physical effort being reduced, while it is perhaps even more exhausting for our mind, since on its work depends our success.

According to my perceptions, working smart is not about allocating more time to do a job. Working smart is an effort to balance the whole line of life so that it will bring a positive impact on productivity.

I could agree with that. Working smart is always better than working hard. But it's not always possible. Some people don't have enough intelectual abbilities to work smart and some don't have other choice.
But I realy think that you are successful and capable if you manage to make fortune without hard work, only based on your intelectual power.
As stated smart work gets the outcome in a short time, whereas the outcome of hardwork takes time to reach the same attained through smart work in a much lesser time period. Another thing, in most cases one who has been successful through hardwork might have not enjoyed his life, the upcoming generation enjoys what he has earned through hard work.

yes I strongly agree with your argument, and in this intelligent work we can create an employment, (company) but on the other hand this should be supported by a larger economy. and in the hard work I'm thinking about here is working with no wasting time, and this will make us successful.

Working wise is better rather than working hard. If you work hard then don't use your mind then you're just fooling yourself because you are just doing things over and over again without progression and advancements. By working wise you will have less time working because you think of a better way of doing things. Entrepreneurs work smart, they think of something new in the market that's why they succeed in life. Working hard is also a good mindset but you have to work smart because this will make everything a lot easier.
