Interesting week for sure...

Microsoft spends 70 billion dollars on gaming assets that will be the foundation of NFTs in mainstream gaming.

Facebook, excuse me, Meta announces that users will be able to create, display, and sell NFTs on their Facebook and Instagram properties.

Looksrare, an NFT platform that came out of nowhere and airdropped tokens to NFT traders has a current market cap of over a billion dollars and growing rapidly.

Bitcointalk - Still no need for an NFT discussion section.  Nobody uses them.  They're just pictures...

Finally, a possible legitimate use case for the Lightning network and the community instead pretends it's not the single biggest onboarding opportunity for users in crypto ever...  I guess it's easier to yell scam then it is to build the future of finance.  I'm guessing the folks that left Bitcoin to create a trillion dollar altcoin market aren't missing this opportunity.

Seems pretty obvious that not only an NFT section, but a Lightning section would be useful to users here.  I can understand not having an NFT section considering that isn't really a Bitcoin thing yet, but no Lightning section just seems strange to me.  Granted the 2 will probably go hand in hand at some point in the not too distant future, so maybe we're just waiting until there are more developers working on Lightning or better dev kits...  Who knows.  I've never seen a very good explanation.  Clearly Lightning is not Bitcoin so it's own discussion board would be useful.  Same with the Liquid network.  Most people don't even know it exists, so you'd think given this forum's support of Bitcoin it would be doing it's part to try and bring development to these networks in support of Bitcoin.

If there is decision of taking it out you would seriously find members filling up other boards with such topics and it's good that we have different sections allocated for the each fragment of crypto market. So it's all good as it is.
I'm not entirely sure if it would, but usually people want to make money, and they'll find whatever gap in the market they can. At the moment, NFTs are somewhat similar to the ICO hype a few years ago, and will likely die off in a couple of years time, and be replaced with some new fad, which could be Bitcoin related or Altcoin. Though, altcoins definitely have a larger field to play in than Bitcoin services.

So, absolutely if the Altcoin section were to be removed, the amount of spam would be at a all time low, however as mentioned above by others, at what cost. The forum already makes enough money, and probably has enough money in the reserves to remain a discussion forum for a long time, however currently I would say Bitcointalk is still the place to be if you want to discuss anything about cryptocurrencies, and personally I would like to keep it as that, removing a large part of the industry would probably alienate quite a few users from the forum, and they would look for elsewhere.

The forum has a history, but not many users registering here today care too much about that. In fact, I'd probably say close the majority aren't even aware of its history, and have just heard you can make money here. Bitcointalk is one of the most unique opportunities, as well as cryptocurrencies which yeah does cause some issues from time to time, but I think the pros outweigh the cons.

The Altcoin section alone this month has probably had over 3000 reports, which is a little out of the ordinary, but if you compare it with the Hilariousandco's thread about the number of reports per period, then you'll see that the Altcoin section plays a significant part in the amount of reports we receive on a regular basis. That can also signal that there are users in that section, that care about it though. So, while the numbers initially indicate that's a problem, there's clearly users here that care about the section.

Nah, I think having the altcoin section is a good thing for the forum itself and its community.  As Pmalek pointed out, it increases traffic to the site (good for the forum), and there are a lot of members who post in both the bitcoin-related sections and the altcoin ones (good for the community).  Getting rid of it would be a bad move all around.  In addition to that, all the bounty hunters would be shit out of luck.  That wouldn't exactly bring a tear to my eye, but it'd just be a bad decision to make for them and for the forum.
Exactly the altcoin board has so many members contributing towards the discussion although 10 out of 8 are not qualified for the good quality post and you would see members spamming up the thread and was surprised to see so many tokens which are seriously shitcoins being discussed in that section. If you have problem with some board simply put it to the ignore list and you don't have to post there but i sometimes look into to have the market knowledge. If there is decision of taking it out you would seriously find members filling up other boards with such topics and it's good that we have different sections allocated for the each fragment of crypto market. So it's all good as it is.

If we say of NFT then most of them are based on some block chain like BAYC on eth, metaverse on polygon network and you see they all are specially altcoins as we see all other coins apart from bitcoin are termed altcoins but most of them turned out to be shitcoin with time so why have separate boards for such discussion? Suppose once they are gone then what will you discuss in that board? There are so many other similar topics like @OP and answer to them all are altcoin is board for all of your NFT discussions.

Lol.  Just reading your summary of that made me laugh.  South Park blasts pretty much everything, but they do so in an intelligent way, and it sounds like they hit the nail on the head as far as NFTs go.  Too bad the folks who have a case of NFT fever haven't figured out that it's just an example of a typical mania over something that doesn't have real value (like internet stocks back in the 1990s).

South Park has joined the race of making fun of NFTs. You can take a look at a short one minute segment here.
For those who don't have Facebook but would like to know what it's about here is a quick review.

They are showing a completely destroyed motel with bodies scattered around everywhere. The fire department explains how everything was OK until one guy showed up offering an incredible investment opportunity. People then started shouting HODL, HODL. One group started right-clicking on the others, which led to a pump-and dump. A fight broke out because some people were claiming it's all just FOMO. People were dying screaming it was a flippening.

You have to watch the video to see the rest. Grin

How about applying a mixture of mercury and tequila on a burn? Shocked

Removing the altcoin boards would be counterproductive if we are trying to get more traffic to Bitcointalk and keep the site interesting for newer generations. If that isn't the goal, then removing altcoins, signature campaigns, and bounties is the right thing to do. People want them whether we like it or not.

I find it hilarious when someone flaunt his/ her NFT, someone else simply saves an image and reupload it as theirs just as his/ hers  Grin
Precisely.  Being digital, presumably you can create an exact replica of an NFT, though of course you don't have the record of ownership--but who cares about that except for people trying to make mad money from the NFT craze?

If you have an original Picasso (or a work from any great artist), there's no way to duplicate it--all the paint, the signs of aging, etc.  It's truly unique.  NFTs are unique in their own way, but I'm telling you, people are going to start seeing through that lousy form of uniqueness very rapidly, all at once, and then the market for them is going to crumble.  I don't know when, but it's going to happen.

And why should there be a section for NFTs on this forum?  This is a bitcoin forum that just happens to have an altcoin section, but asking for an NFT-specific one seem to me like going to the Dash forum (or any other altcoin forum) and requesting the same thing.  It's just not appropriate.

Keanu mocked the idea by saying "they can easily be reproduced" and started laughing. I don't know about you, but I loved it.

I just remember this thread after seeing something funny.

Did anyone see what Hollywood's favorite character had to say about NFTs? Keanu Reeves was promoting his new Matrix movie when he was asked about NFTs. The interviewer asked him what he thought about the concept of digital scarcity and items that can't be copied. Keanu mocked the idea by saying "they can easily be reproduced" and started laughing. I don't know about you, but I loved it.

You can read about it here > https://god.dailydot.com/keanu-reeves-nfts/?fbclid=IwAR36mu5EtHOCTD3zDzGUWoGAVXov9H00gwXUmtRc1hEBaRq9KGKJMsqxw74.

Here is just one meme in a series of others that was created not long after the news was released:

Seriously--and once people wake up and realize that NFTs are complete garbage and a fad and are worthless digital collectibles that are nowhere near as valuable as real art that artists painted on a real canvas the market for these things is going to crash--and crash hard.

I'm telling you, the emperor has no clothes on.  NFT lovers can't see that fact, but nevertheless it is true.  It's very easy to get blinded by hype, yet it happens to people repeatedly.

As to having a dedicated subsection:
1) It's been discussed before, as noted by Lafu.
2) They're tokens, as noted by Lafu.
3) ICOs, Defi, and some other crypto hot topics of the moment never got subsections of their own, so don't hold your breath for NFTs getting one.

Now you can lock the thread, OP.

I will support a section for discussion related to NFTs. They might be the next big thing and it will be better if the forum is prepared for it in advance.
Some parts of the NFT industry are interesting. But most of it will be forgotten in the same way that other hyped trends were as well.

However, allowing members to be able to exchange this or buy NFTs here will not be possible to integrate on this forum. A separate platform will have to be created for that which will be competing with the best crypto exchanges in the world who are already doing good work.
NFTs are digital artworks. If you want to sell those, I see no reason why you cant do that in the Digital goods forum. Is there someone or something that prevents you from doing that? Are such threads getting locked by the admins? NFTs don't need to be integrated into the forum software and I doubt that will ever happen on this or any future Bitcointalk forum.

Ah, as usual I didn't read the whole thread before posting, and you listed some of the crypto stuff I'd forgotten about--but that's exactly what I'm talking about.  NFTs are the movie of the week as far as I'm concerned, and they'll be forgotten in a year or less.  Maybe more if people remain insane.

But don't verry expect the admin to grant it because I've seen the same request made by another user recently and it hasn't been granted. So no problem with your suggestions and requests, but so far we don't think a dedicated NFT subboard is needed urgently.

If you want to sell or trade, then you must have a thread associated with it on the available board. It's simple, you just have to do it.

Hi Support,

What ongoing technical discussions can we have about NFTs? I don't know but some technical articles will suffice and then some of topics about NFTs that sold for a few hundred dollars but there are no new topics or issues that others can bring up for NFT's use.

Most of the platforms are centralized and have a graphical interface that makes the user do not need any technical experience.

Also, SMF fourm design is outdated that will not support buying/selling NFTs.

Hi Andrew7845 im not from the Support , just saying !

But i just quote a post from a Global Moderator ( mprep ) about the NFT thing that was asked so many times now here !
When it comes to creation of new boards, an already existing board has to be dominated / overwhelmed by a specific subset of topics (e.g. NFT announcements) discussed in that board. To avoid repeating myself some more, I'll just quote what I've said in the past (with some edits):

As with all sub-forum requests, I'm gonna ask a question - how many topics about Satoshi NFT are currently on the first 3 or so pages of any board? Or on several boards combined? If there aren't enough topics (at least 20 on the frontpage and around 10 on later pages in my experience) to fill a board (meaning such topics do not dominate the discussion sphere of an existing board), what's the point of making a new section that'll be dead on arrival.

Unless a subset of possible board topics is dominating the front page (+50% of topics on the front page belong to said subset), it's highly unlikely that it'll have a sub-section created for it. Not much point in creating a board that will be dead on arrival.

In the overwhelming majority of cases, boards are created not to encourage discussion of a subject but to stop a certain subject from dominating a board meant for a larger array of topics.

BitMaxz and acroman08 already answered the question also , NFT is a Token !
So the Bitcoin Forum > Alternate cryptocurrencies > Announcements (Altcoins) > Tokens (Altcoins) is your place for .
You can lock that topic by yourself before a Mod will make it !

NFT are tokens as it suggests in its name. as what BitMaxz said, it belongs to altcoins(Token) section

you can read some of the replies on threads already made asking for NFT board or if there will be an NFT board to see what the community(or at least those who replied to the thread) thinks about adding an NFT board.

Why not an NFT section ?
This board is not keeping up with current times
