As others like Danny point out, it's pointless to argue about the value of something after structured society ends. If you can't use it to keep yourself alive and healthy and secure, it's the last thing on your list of priorities.

And we don't even really need to look for fantastical scenarios. In times of personal economic distress, would you be hoarding gold or buying up BTC? Even if at super bargain prices, you'll be paying through the nose for food to feed hungry kids, roof over heads, energy credits to keep warm, etc. You'll be selling whatever cash/fiat/crypto you've got to stay alive.

That's what most people still don't understand or will ever get when talking about "bargain BTC" and predicting how retail buyers will snap things up.

~ so in other for those who are in shortage of then to have access they may have to buy it or exchange for something else, hence fiat will be quite useful in this scenario.
For you to have weapons, food, medicines, clean water and other important stuff to sustain lives through that difficult period, you will have to either buy them or get them somehow and am pretty sure you will need fiat.
No, even a Fiat would be useless. Let's imagine all the countries in the world are involved in this war, and everyone is not working. The economy doesn't work, then everyone has no money. So the transactions that are possible are barter, such as weapons for food, blankets with foods, and foods can be exchanged for shelter.

Bitcoin itself will survive a nuclear war, but it may become inaccessible, there will be a lot of destruction to properties and facilities (the internet services that was mentioned) at that point, and use cases of bitcoin may reduce due to the distabilation in the normal order of things, but soon after , if there are any survivors left, and the internet is restored, there is the possibility that those bitcoins that were inaccessible will become accessible.

You're assuming the worst which is a war that destroys everything, the whole infrastructure. The truth is in case of a nuclear war nobody would target countries that don't pose a threat.
Nobody would attack Australia because it's a remote land with no nuclear weapons. Even if a country that owns such weapons decided to take over Australia it would use conventional weapons to do so, knowing that irradiated land isn't fit for anything but dumping trash.

I think once nuclear war breaks out, it will be World War 3, no country can stay out of the war because nowadays most countries have their allies, once your ally is attacked, the rest cannot sit still so it will activate worldwide. When the world war happens, I think bitcoin is no longer a matter of concern, we will have many things to take care of food, medicine and most importantly, our lives. If we are no longer alive, the existence of bitcoin will become meaningless.

Even if we imagine a nuclear happening all over the world people will still need to have some currency to do their trades and deals and if you imagine this situation you can understand that many people will need to save their money from the infraction rate which can happen because of the war and this investment option can be bitcoin for them because of being decentralized that's why I think bitcoin will easily survive a nuclear war and this war will even make more demand in bitcoin market.

If humans can't survive then how Bitcoin would survive? We all know what would happen if suddenly we face nuclear war. Everything will be collapsed and the world economy wouldn't survive. The same will happen for Bitcoin. People should be alive and survive first before anything else. We will need a lot of cash or fiat in case of nuclear war. So everyone will start the sale definitely to survive their life. We have to be ready to see Bitcoin collapse as well. No other option except to saving humans.
Robots will monitor the health of the btcoin-network. Smiley

It seems to me that "a lot of cash or fiat" will not help in the event of a nuclear war, and it is necessary to stock up on canned food and medicines. That's what will be truly appreciated in those conditions. Any currencies will turn into useless candy wrappers, including crypto currencies and bitcoin.

But let's not talk about sad things and hope that we will see the conditions of a post-nuclear war only in films and science fiction stories. In real conditions, it will not be as "colorful and exciting", as Hollywood shows, and as already mentioned above, bitcoin is far from the first thing people will think about in those conditions.

I think so too, so if there is a nuclear war, surely everyone will prioritize their daily needs first, and if people have bitcoins they will certainly sell them, if there is a nuclear war. and I think I would do the same in the event of a nuclear war.

Would you survive nuclear war ?
- In the starting yes, if you live far enough to not get caught up in the radius of the radiation and follow the protocols.
Would the world survive nuclear war?
- No !
You must understand that the climate change that we all talk about won't just be climate change then the earth would collapse, countries will be wiped off, nothing will survive, no internet, no wifi, nothing, when we talk about bitcoins it's definitely not going to jump in and somehow help people with everything.
It will work, for people not in the radius, for people not going through the worse of it, but not 🚫 like how it did in the covid 19

What do you think about it? I read this article in the Market Times https://markettimes.co.uk/cryptocurrencies/would-bitcoin-survive-a-nuclear-war/ and in my opinion I don't see a future 'cause to have access to the bitcoin you need internet
Here is a simple descriptive answer to the OP's question from this source - A nuclear attack could cause substantial fatalities, injuries, and infrastructure damage from the heat and blast of the explosion, and significant radiological consequences from both the initial nuclear radiation and the radioactive fallout that settles after the initial event. An electromagnetic pulse from the explosion could also disrupt telecommunications and power distribution. The energy released by a nuclear explosion is distributed roughly as 50% shockwave; 35% heat; 5% initial nuclear radiation; and 10% fallout radiation. This distribution varies depending on the design of the weapon and the altitude of the explosion. In short, nothing would survive.

It may but bitcoin would be the last thing you would worry about during a nuclear war. Even if it survives the Armageddon, I can guarantee you that the crypto prices won't look pretty which basically the whole point for most people. If you can call that surviving, yes it will survive just like how crypto survived mt.Gox before. A nuclear war will probably be much worse than the mt.Gox incident though keep that in mind. You should buy a bunker, dry food, water and other shit which people would consume during a nuclear war instead of thinking about crypto.

If a global nuclear war occurs, then there will be problems that will have to be solved first of all for the preservation and maintenance of vital activity so as not to be thrown back a century and it seems that the restoration of the blockchain will not be a priority. mining and especially cryptocurrency exchanges.

No.

Cash and fiat will be useless after a society-ending war. The only things that will have value will be the things that keep you alive:
  • Food
  • Fresh water
  • Medicine
  • Shelter
  • Bullets and other weapons

If you can't eat it, drink it, or use it to protect yourself from weather, disease, and hostile people or animals, then it's pretty useless.

First of all I hope the world don't have to experience any nuclear war.
Now assuming there is a nuclear war, and this things you mentioned are in high demand, definitely not every war affected areas will have these life saving things, so in other for those who are in shortage of then to have access they may have to buy it or exchange for something else, hence fiat will be quite useful in this scenario.

Believe you will not gonna think about Bitcoin, Crypto or money when nuclear war started. You probably busy looking for a safe place to shelter in able to avoid radiation and this is same with all the crypto miners because you can’t enjoy your money if you are dead and probably the majority of the world is already destroyed due to radiation if this war ignite. I will never dream for that to happened or even think of it just to have a discussion about Bitcoin future.

Well that depends on how big that nuclear war is going to be, if it didn’t stop world internet then bitcoin maybe can survive too so here will be people dealing with it and the price will be good. But if the internet was cut of course you can’t even find how to use it. We all understand how the price works, as long as there is people dealing with bitcoin it will always survive. Let’s just wish to see any nuclear war at all
so if there will be a nuclear war but it will not affect the internet network as you said, my friend, obviously I agree that transactions on bitcoin will run as usual and will be safe.
it looks like it's not just a nuclear war, but all wars that result in uninterrupted networks connected to the internet, so you can be sure everything is safe. but if on the contrary if the internet network is disrupted then transactions with bitcoin cannot run as desired. Internet network and bitcoin always have to go hand in hand and need each other.
hopefully all wars will not happen and the world can be peaceful and the journey with bitcoin can go well.

But I don't think we should be too concerned about what happens to Bitcoin in case of a nuclear war precisely because there will be much more pressing concerns like how not to die.

I agree with this. It's not that I don't care about Bitcoin, it's just that there will be more immediate concerns to worry about. I think we can all agree that if there is a nuclear war, the immediate concern will be survival. If you can't survive, then Bitcoin doesn't matter. I think we can also agree that after survival comes sheltering in place and food and water supplies. Then comes the need for communication, which is a problem because we can assume that there will be no power or internet in the immediate aftermath of a nuclear war.  We also need to consider what would happen if the world's financial institutions collapsed as a result of a global catastrophe. At this point, it will be necessary to start working on getting these things back up and running again.

I didn't think a nuclear war was realistic just a couple of years ago, but now it does seem realistic to me, so it's somewhat relevant to wonder whether Bitcoin would survive. While some servers might survive, I think the big question is whether the Internet will. If it collapses, and at least in post-apocalyptic fiction it usually does, then while technically this might not bring the end of Bitcoin, it will be the end practically because people won't really be able to use it, miners won't bother mining and verifying transactions, etc. I agree with the doctoral candidate from the article that Bitcoin won't be of use, and neither will stocks, banknotes etc. I agree about what would be used as currencies as well.
But I don't think we should be too concerned about what happens to Bitcoin in case of a nuclear war precisely because there will be much more pressing concerns like how not to die.

You are a normal human being and it is natural that you cannot see any future for anything. Bitcoin and the Internet are two different things that are closely related because Bitcoin requires the Internet to be accessible to everyone around the world. So what I want to ask is, what things have you found when you read the article? Because I just want to hear your opinion after reading all that is written in the article now.

It's not a matter of scale, even a small nuclear war from two smallest nuclear armed countries which is Pakistan and India, it would be enough to affect the whole world through radioactive fallout and extreme climate changes, I think that would be enough damage to our infrastructures, if by some miracle that we are still alive and we can maintain the Internet and the devices that store bitcoin then probably the answer to the question is that bitcoin would survive but in that scenario, bitcoin's probably the least of our worries as we are struggling to find survive the aftermath of a nuclear war.

Why not? Bitcoin is digital not physical. Bitcoin will survive the worst 💯

As Bitcoin is decentralized it makes sense to believe that it could survive a nuclear war. However, there are no guarantees and the disruptions caused by a nuclear war could be enough to cause a major disruption in the internet. This means that, in theory, Bitcoin could survive a nuclear war but it would be unlikely to function properly. This is because Bitcoin relies on the internet to operate and if this is disrupted then there is no way for transactions to be verified by miners.

Even if the internet survived, it’s likely that there would be a huge amount of damage to infrastructure such as power stations. This would mean that electricity to run computers would be limited and could cause major disruption for mining operations. It is also possible that the environment may become so radioactive that it is uninhabitable for centuries. As a result of all this, it is hard to say what would happen to Bitcoin in the event of a nuclear war.
