Hi,

I'll go directly in English so everybody will be able to read!

I just don't understand why is everyone so irritated that I offer to buy with Paypal. It's simply an offer, I do not force people to sell to me. I do not put gun to someone's head to deal with.. I just publicly tell my rates and offer to buy through Paypal. After a refusal, I respectfully say that I understand and pass along.

I don't see where an escrow is different from Paypal. The malicious buyer could tell he received rocks instead of miners and the escrow wouldn't know who is malicious between the seller and the buyer. With Paypal, I'm not quite sure how someone can fraud continuously. The user's reputation will go down and Paypal could investigate the user behaviour. Moreover, Paypal is often linked to a verified address and bank account of the user, it is not easily replicable as an anonymous identity on the web.

It looks like a tempest in a teapot from my point of view. No one is forced to deal with me if they disagree with the terms. I do not think I'm a public nuisance for this forum as I contribute with pricing information. I also got two orders now that I paid with Paypal and all went (and will go) well with the seller.

From my stand point it wasn't that you were using Paypal (I support it in almost all of the threads where I am selling) but that you were pointing out the protections Paypal offers and then almost side stepping them with the offer to ship to a UPS store in the states, on one hand I get it band have friends there so it almost makes sense but it makes solid buyer and seller protection hard as the he said/she said stuff can get tough..

In any case I wish you well, I have a bunch of SP20s with PSUs I can sell you but your rates aren't quite high enough for me, and I do support Paypal, and if you have the UPS store on your PP account it would work..

Hello Maxime

Since you are from Joliette, you speak french so let switch to french. Translation in english below.

Bonjour Maxime

Hi Maxime

What people told you in this thread were all right. Im a miner from Quebc and I have been on the forum for more than a year. You need to understand that in crypto, trust is really important because a lot of scam happen everyday. So now, they only way to buy stuff for a new user like you, will be to buy in BTC and use a escrow. You will need to paid they escrow (OgNasty charge 1% and is one of the best in the community) I know it will probably be more complicated but it will be more safe for you and the seller.

quakefiend420 is a well know miner in the community and I suggest you to listen to the advice of actif people on the forum. They probably have way more experience than you.

On that, I wish you good luck and welcome aboard.

Cheer

Good to know and thanks for the info. Well, it will be up to the seller to go with what he considers safer considering the cost. But I think it could work anyway: https://www.paypal.com/ca/webapps/mpp/security/seller-protection-faq (Canadian page, but there should be a similiar US one) . It doesn't say it have to be shipped to the confirmed address, only to the address on the invoice. If I accept the invoice with the shipping address of the UPS Store and you can provide a proof that you shipped there, I shouldn't be able to open a dispute because you shipped where you were supposed so!

What do you mean?

Buyer and seller protection are only valid if shipped to the verified address on the Paypal account, alternative shipping invalidates the policy... Frankly I'd rather sell to you via Paypal that way with documentation from you of alternative shipping arrangements since I don't need to worry about you trying to use buyer protection..

Hi,

I added shipping advices in my original post. There is an opportunity to ship to the Plattsburgh UPS Store to save costs!

So you only take PayPal because of buyer protection, and then suggest an option that invalidates buyer and seller protection.. Well thought out..

JESUS CHRIST!!!!!

Listen NOBODY will ACCEPT PAYPAL as a PAYMENT because there are TONS of PAYPAL SCAMS out there.

Even sellers on eBay which claims to have Seller Protection are scared to sell with Paypal because usually when there is a chargeback they usually end up losing money.

You BEST suggestion is to buy LOCALLY on Kijiji or Craiglists. Mining equipment is HEAVY and shipping will up the prices.

Hi quakefiend420,

I cannot not charge for escrow as I currently have sellers willing to sell through Paypal directly. That would be unfair to them. Those are my terms and I understand some may disagree with them.

I encourage you, however, to continuously take a look at this post since I'm planning to update my rates weekly.

Thank you,
Maxime

I'll let all those sellers beating down your door to use PayPal send you hardware, I'll pass.  Good luck.

Hi quakefiend420,

You just lost an opportunity to sell your mining hardware.

Have a nice day,

No, you lost the opportunity to buy mine when you wanted to impose a ridiculous 4% fee to use an escrow when you have 1 post and no feedback whatsoever.  Get real.

Hi,

I'm hearing you. I would accept to use an established escrow for a 4% fee for the inconvenience. Original post is updated.

Thank you,

Ok, now I am kinda crapping on your thread.

Max, since you're a new member without any trust rating i would suggest you use an escrow like OGNasty. Not only you'll able to create you some trust on this forum but it will also protect yourself and the seller at the same time. It's a win-win situation

Just my 2 cents Tongue

Good luck !

Hi quakefiend413 and HerbPean,

Yes, I know escrow are quite popular here! Paypal is also some kind of escrow, just saying!

I may revise my position and accept escrow service in the future once I evaluate them. But for now, I will work with Paypal Smiley!

Thank you for the advice,

They are, sort of...but it's pretty common knowledge that they basically always side with the buyer, no matter what.  Even in the face of overwhelming evidence it takes an act of congress to get them to agree with a seller if there's a dispute.  Many of us who trade a lot have been burned by PayPal in the past even when we were obviously in the right.  I accept it as payment occasionally from members here, but only if they have a solid reputation.

Not trying to crap on your thread, but since you're new I thought I'd explain a bit about how and why we do things around here! Smiley

Good luck finding your gear!

Hi quakefiend420,

Since I pay with Paypal, you will receive the funds before shipping. The only thing is that I am eligible for buyer's protection from Paypal. So, if things go wrong and you don't ship, there can be a chargeback.

I won't do payment upfront in BTC.

Thank you,

And if things go right and we do ship you can still perform a chargeback and rip someone off.  There's many reasons this whole Bitcoin thing even exists, and PayPal's shoddy business practices is just one small one.  If you're not willing to trust a known escrow or a known trader on here with tons of successful trades, why should anyone be willing to trust you?
