The stats are based on accepted shares, so if no shares are accepted yet, it cannot detect a connection.

This is because we've been mining some very fast coin during the last hour with new blocks coming every 1-5 seconds.

Don't worry with the rejects, we only mine such coins if it's profitable. For example: If you mine 200% profitable coin with 10% rejects you still have 0.9*200% = 180%. If you mine 150% profitable coin with 2% rejects you have 0.98*150% = 147%. What would you choose?

There was a major blockchain fork of one of coins and we ended on the wrong side of the fork this time, so our blocks became orphaned. Situations like this happen sometimes and are calculated into profitability algorithm.

While we lost some of our hashing time yesterday, we still had a pretty good daily result.

I don't think 2 minute average makes sense. Hashrate reported by a pool is always only an estimate based on number and difficulty of shares that your miner sent. Even 10-minute average is very random and dependent on the luck factor. 2-minute avg would just jump between 20% and 500% of your real hashrate.
