Always wanted to try some of this, but I'm not anywhere near rich enough to justify buying it.

Have you tried any BayAreaCoins?

I have.

I've tried 10yr, 12yr, 15yr, and  23yr.

This stuff is soo delicious!  I like the 12 year personally.  If you live in Florida, total wine carries it.   You just gotta find out the day it delivers.

I had a glass of the 12 year a few weeks back... they have half a bottle left at Cache Restaurant.  It was like $40 for one ounce and the owner told me that it was going to be $80 per ounce  Roll Eyes.  I'm sure it will sell too.

Cheaper for me to try a $80 ounce than a $xxx hundred dollar bottle.

Just got home from my grandparents, talked to my grandpa and apparently he had a bottle that he purchased something like 20 years ago.  It was the 13 year Rye, and I am going to see if I can figure out which year it was from.
Unfortunately it only had about 2 fingers worth left in it, and it looked like it would make you sick if you drank it, so he poured it out, but the bottle is still really cool.

You got to be sure to store the bottle standing up.  The cork can make that shit look horrible otherwise.

Bottles you intend to keep should be wrapped at the top to prevent evaporating.

Don't give up hunting it.

I found a place in Hot Springs, Arkansas that had some behind the shelf... They wanted $2,500 for a 20 year though lol.

Just the 2017 because I figured they would be cheapest since they are newest, but I guess I could be wrong on that front.  I guess I figured I could pick up a bottle or two of each age and hold them and in 3 to 5 years sell them for some profit.  But perhaps that is not necessarily how it works?

This is right most of the time.

My bottles were bought from someone who didn't know the difference or didn't care, so I paid the same for my 2013 as I did for my 2016...  I really don't mind over looking the year most the time. (If that makes sense)

I will pay for the 2013 bottle and take it.  And if you would just ship it like on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week, that would be perfect!

Sounds like a plan!  I'll ship it on Tuesday (11-7-17)... having boxes in the post office over the weekend always freaks me out for some reason.

Be sure to PM me the shipping information after you make the payment please.

Also, you can see in the picture that the 2013 stamp kinda fades towards the end of the #'s... that is totally normal and no one looks down on that.  Bourbon people don't frown on bent tags and rubs like the majority of other markets do (baseball cards, beanie babies and other shits that don't hold value well  Grin.)

Cool Cool!  I just paid to the address above!  I will send shipping information to you in a PM.

I am so looking forward to this bottle!  We are going to enjoy the hell out of it!

And I would love to purchase some bottles to start a collection/investment.  If you want to help facilitate that I would really appreciate it.  Just let me know how it works.

Hell ya man!

Just let me know what you are thinking and I'm happy to help.  My personal 2016 bottles will be cheaper than the guys who actively sell 2017 on the second market I would suppose...  Frankly I have some AMAZING bottles to choose from right here.  Example, I paid $2500 for each one of the Hirsch less than a year ago.  Each one is worth about $3500 now I've heard.  My friend believes that they are going to be $5,000 bottles fairly easily... I believe we are actively working on trading them for some other $5000 bottle that has a bit more market "liquidity".

HOWEVER, if you feel adventures... you can always try to find people who came from the first market and are OK cutting the second markets prices.  (I hope that makes sense)

I don't mind giving you my friends contact information and you can deal with him direct if you want (bit of a bitcoin noob, but he's smart/good/honest).  I've helped him setup a Gemini account a while back *rip $1300 Bitcoins for both of us*.  It may not be a bad thing to be with me though, but whatever floats your boat!

Any reason in particular why you are drawn to the 2017 bottles?

FYI, I recommend purchasing the oldest bottles possible if they are priced the same as the most recent bottling.

Thank you for answering my questions

My pleasure!

At least 1 to drink and the rest to hold and resell in a few years.  Have you been doing this long?  Do you find they appreciate in value very much?

I've been messing with Pappy Van Winkle since 2014... Bottle price has been steadily increasing since I've got involved.  It kinda reminds me how it feels to buy Bitcoins... that "Man I was just paying $1000 last year and now it cost how much?!" feeling.

I bought my first 5 bottles of Pappy 23 for like... $1300 I think maybe in 2014.

Also, I assume your not going to tell me how your friend sources them?  What kind of markup would you want on the current year bottles?

Honestly, I don't ask them where they source them from.  They are extremely well networked in the second market bourbon scene.

You won't even notice my mark up on bottles I have to source outside my inventory.  No worries about that, I'm "cheap". Tongue

I will take the 2016 15 year pappy van winkle at $1200.

That is totally fine!

Might I make the suggestion of purchasing my bottle of 2013 PVW 15 year rather than then 2016.  They both are the same price from me, but the 2013 is worth "more" due to age.

The difference between the 2013 and the 2016 bottle is going to be the time stamp on the bottle.  The 2013 uses black ink and the 2016 uses laser engravings.

But I don't want it shipped until the end of next week if that is ok?  I have a business trip and will be gone until Thursday evening.

That is totally fine!

Just so you know... my friend that I purchase my bottles from messaged me the other day about possibly buying a handful of bottles back... the three 15 years being some of those bottles.  If you want to go a head a pay for the 2013 15yr... I'd be absolutely happy to hodl it for you.  (No pressure of course)

EDIT: Also, do you happen to know the laws around selling bottles that are held for investment?

I honestly don't.

I tried to call the ATF years ago and no one bothered to return my call.

Fairly sure that selling a fancy bottle for collecting purposes is fine... they are concerned about people trying to bootleg and such.

Only negative press I can think of in regards to fancy booze is some Chinese/Japanese kid got busted selling fake wine to the Koch brothers.  My bottles aren't fake, so no worries Cheesy!

I do know that your home/renters insurance will cover the retail value of bottles of booze that are being collected and displayed.

Insurance will not cover booze that is for drinking.

I believe they would only give you like $249 for a bottle of Pappy 23... which is lame, but I'm not 100% sure about what they'd pay out.

Thank you for answering my questions, I am definitely interested in sourcing a few bottles of the 2017.  At least 1 to drink and the rest to hold and resell in a few years.  Have you been doing this long?  Do you find they appreciate in value very much?

Holy crap, how did you get these?

If I told you... I'd have to kill you! Tongue teasing!

I have a friend in NYC that is fucking BRILLIANT.

We source bottles from all over.

I have been asking around in Kansas (since now is the shipping time) and if a store gets them, they will maybe get 1 bottle (notice not case, but bottle) and then they raffle off the chance to buy it at their crazy marked up prices.

Those raffles aren't as fair as one may think a lot of the time I believe.   Wink

Then those bottles get pumped into the second market.

I am definately interested and will look at your prices and talk with some buddies, but are you able to get more 2017 bottles?

Ya man I can get basically any bottle you'd like... 2017's are the easiest to find right now.

I don't believe any of the bottles pictured are 2017... I'd have to double check!
