When I look at the "Pool Blocks" tab on MoneroPool.org, I see that almost 40% of the blocks show as "orphaned".

What's with that?

Is this a result of the 60 second block time? Is it the result of some other flaw/factor in the CryptoNight algorithm? As far as I know, most other coins have much smaller orphan rates.

I assume if other pools were any different, someone would have reported it here.

This seems to me like a HUGE waste of everyone's hashes. Not so?

I am trying to compile wolf's miner On my linux box (64 bit CentOS 6.5) with no luck so far.

Any hints about how to compile this miner on CentOS?

I am also trying to compile Luca's one on CentOS but with no luck. When i try to run minerd it just stops saying illegal instruction. If you find a solution please tell me...

It's impossible to compile official client on CentOs as I know. Because of old gcc version.

Have you checked repoforge? They sometimes have more recent versions

Just use the other one by Lucas. I wasted 3 hours with it on CentOS. Wolfs miner only really works with Ubuntu. It makes problems on all other distros or UNIXes.
It looks to me like it's optimized for his personal Ubuntu setup and machine(s). There is no handling of exeptions.

MoneroPool.org has dropped all support for simpleminer. You should use cpuminer with stratum instead or use another pool that supports HTTP protocol for mining.

Minimum payout with direct to wallet address pools based on node-cryptonote-pool would require some development of node-cryptonote-pool by the author, not config by the pool owners.

zone117x is working on this now because the current pool creates a lot of dust. You can avoid dust by mining on smaller pools.

How can I set thread count in wolf's miner?

on A8-5600 it starts 3 threads and I get a total of 42 H/s (approx 14 per thread)

Be mindful of the total hash though if you set it to all 4 cores. The latest miner (5-30) disables a thread by default (because it makes a HUGE performance difference)

got a question

it's showing

total paid on http://moneropool.org/
but when I use simplewallet.exe it says balance 0
and when I type refresh it says wallet failed to connect to daemon

Close your wallet.
you need to launch daemon and wait he's synchronized
then launch your wallet and type refresh to get the balance updated

cheers

Make sure you're starting bitmonerod.exe and letting it sync all the way before using the wallet.

refresh failed
daemon is busy. please try again later
balance still 0

wait to do anything till you see this in your wallet terminal

Its because the daemon is still syncing the blockchain. Just like with BTC you have to wait until the blockchain is fully synced to see your balance.
