Doomed to see the future and unable to prevent it
5) You are a shop owner, and have registered a Monero address with the IRS as your official retailer address. You use this address for receiving payments from all of your customers. At the end of the year, the tax man uses the view key you provided them with to check how much you received, so that you pay the appropriate taxes....

Good stuff, but seriously, the IRS using your viewkey? The IRS forms are ancient, they have nothing for that sort of thing, so how will that ever work in this day and age? I understand it and agree, but I don't see the IRS actually giving any shits about that kind of thing. It's hard enough to claim BTC on tax forms, let alone any other crypto!  Roll Eyes

Monero is doing pretty well. Great to see ongoing developement.

Monero is so undervalued it's crazy. I'd still buy more if I could. Tongue

The privacy issue is all bullshit anyway -
You have to convert your crypto to fiat to consume.

Short sighted.  Roll Eyes

Short sighted from most perspectives but if your 90 then it may be a good time to enjoy you profits. Lol, just saying. Smiley

I remember very well when I bought XRM on May 3, 2016 at the price 0.002179 BTC , and now the price 0.02355 BTC . I am more and more convinced to invest my money in cryptocurrency.
This increase is still in units of bitcoin and Bitcoin prices also experienced a fantastic price increase in 1 quartal this year.

Guess who I played poker with all day? Sean gunn And a good time it was. He and another player flopped the flush he had the nut and got the money in good and the other dude sucked out with the gutshot straight flush as the board went runner runner hearts. I grabbed the last pot before I left with a bet on a busted flush when the board runnered aces, gotta love position with those scare cards. Smiley Real nice guy, I don't think anyone else knew who he was at the table until I asked him to write a get well card for a friend thats a fan.

Sine secretum non libertas
for Monero held for 12= months or more, AFAICT, the long term capital gains tax applies.  If your AGI on 1040 is less than 75k, you pay 0% tax rate.  Over 75k you pay 10% on long term capital gains.   For Monero held in a Roth retirement account there is no income limit, 0% all the time.

12 months of holding is the critical difference between long-term and short-term capital gains.  The latter are taxed at your marginal (highest) regular income tax rate.

As long as you apply FIFO trading rules it may be trivial to keep all but the last draw down on an actively traded fund from being taxed at marginal rates.

I an not a lawyer or a tax professional.  You should consult your own.

I suppose it's likely the IRS will barely have Bitcoin on their radar, never mind Monero, but I was simply pointing out to chilly2k the fact that if the day comes when people are using Monero, they can prove their income and pay relevant taxes with the use of a viewkey. The IRS will need to figure out crypto soon enough.
