What do I need to do do upgrade the wallets? I am apparently trying to load an old wallet and it needs some type of upgrade?

Do you remember which OS the wallet was created on? If so, download the binaries from the getmonero website for that same OS. Extract the binaries, go to the extracted folder and open bitmonerod (the daemon). Bitmonerod first has to sync fully before you are able to restore your wallet. If bitmonerod is fully synced (you can check this by typing "status" into bitmonerod, it should be equal to the blockheight displayed on moneroblocks.info), place the wallet.bin, wallet.bin.address.txt, and wallet.bin.keys in the same folder as bitmonerod and simplewallet are located. Subsequently, open simplewallet and type in the wallet's name. Simplewallet will automatically update you to a new version and you should be able to see your coins (and transact with them).

Sidenote: if you need help with setting up bitmonerod and simplewallet, you can follow these guides:

Your request is impossible. No one can control icebreaker. Mods and admin of this forum can do something but you coming here only gives light to your childishness and hypocrisy.

Obviously you are butthurt.

Funny how MM and the other DashHoles loved to reiterate how much they enjoy using the Ignore button on me, until XMR's market cap shot past their own.  Then they suddenly start coming here to whine and pout.

Perhaps the Ignore feature stopped working for single-purpose shitcoin pumper accounts with 99% of their posts in the Dash thread?   Cheesy

Please tell the monero marketing team (arielbit, icebreaker, etc.) to stop trolling DASH so i don't have to come here again. They troll there everyday all day. If they continue i will be back until they stop. Thanks

iCEBREAKER continues to troll DASH all day everyday. Be sure to Thank him for me having to come back here! I guess i'll be back again until his community excommunicates him or gets him under control.

If he wants to start more threads to troll dash that's fine but please show some class and don't troll coins announcement threads all day everyday. he's a blight on your community and crypto in general...

i'm guessing he's not the official monero community outreach person
https://hashfastscam.wordpress.com/

there are several other monero folks i have fun with and we go back and forth but for the most part they have some self respect and do not troll the dash ann thread all day everyday, they are smooth, fluffy, smoothie, generalizethis and a few others. i/we like challenges but the obsessive ann thread trolling needs to stop.

i apologize in advance for not reading your replies but i only come here for one reason and will not come back after the obsessive announcement thread trolling stops. trust me, the last thing i want to do is bump the monero thread everyday.

PRIVATE AND NOT PREMINED: MONERO, AEON, KARBO
Monero is most profitable to mine right now, according to WhatToMine.com (not for every gpu/cpu, mind you).
Cryptonight algo is also on the second place.

I have a question about the "view key" feature. There are some people saying that this feature will be a weakness for Monero because a court order can be made to make you show your transactions thru view key. I just want to know what is the purpose of it and why the development team made the decision to put it there. Is it there to assist the authorities if indeed someone is caught making an illegal transaction using XMR?

Sometimes the books need to be opened to the accountant, but you don't want said trusted entity to be overpowered by greed upon seeing your vast wealth of XMR.  SO,  a view-only key is provided, to allow transparent accounting, without relinquishing or sharing spending authority.

There's nothing saying you can't have 200 other wallets held in a more discrete manner.  Discreet too Wink

Mods and tech guys -

What do I need to do do upgrade the wallets? I am apparently trying to load an old wallet and it needs some type of upgrade?

If it's the old standard, I think you will have to just send your monero to a new wallet. You should be able to run simplewallet.exe with the flag --wallet-file arg to recover it for starters. Then just make a new wallet and send to a modern mnemonic seed style wallet.

Here is a post about it. https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/3jteca/how_to_import_old_monero_wallet/ and the answer worked. But probably if he had just run it with the flag I talked about above he wouldn't have gotten that error.

Hey guys, I am having a problem with simplewallet,

I have my keys and address files in the proper directory but when I try to start bitmonerod I get an error message but it shuts down immeaditly there are words flashing in red but it shuts off to quick for me to read them. Looks like it is saying something about some type of file path or storage location.

Are there any tricks to using the blockchain bootstrap? just put it in the directory and blockchain.raw, right?

Can you have two different wallets in the same directory, and load each wallet as you need to using the same daemon?

How do you view the log to see what the error is?

Yes, you can have many different wallets in the same directory but they must be named differently etc.

Make a bat file that has "pause" at the end to find your error if its not in the log. thanks.

Eidt - sounds like you have an older version and may need to convert your blockchain files. Ask more here about that as I'm not versed in that anymore sorry!

With more active nodes online I'm noticing more out of date older version of the deamon trying to sync with me.  The old  (-80 days) ahead]  message.  Should I ban these IP's?  Or is it fine to let it be?  Is it critical to have all the nodes on the network running the same version?

Also if I should be banning these out of sync IP's is there a way to modify the .exe file to auto run the banned IP's on launch.  Running Windows.   Does anyone know if the GUI will let you make modifications like this within the deamon?  (if spying eye have seen)   I know its a lot of questions just trying to learn.

I see that crap all the time. sometimes it auto-bans them, but not often. sometimes I ban them manually to get rid of the stupid messages. thanks

Crypto is the separation of Power and State.
Network hashrate is growing. It's 28.75MH/s right now and it's new ATH.
So no more cheap moneroj.

And now 30MH/s

Does this give any insight into the "debate" about whether price drives HR or HR drives price (with mining technology remaining the same)?

Increased prices encourage a higher hash rate, higher security from higher hash rates adds some value to the chain (but at some diminishing rate)

At some threshold, higher hash rates add value at increased rates.

EG, when XMR's network becomes more expensive to attack than Litecoin's, and in turn, Bitcoin's.   Cool
