I hope this is considered "on topic".  I've been mining Eth/Etc/Sia for the past few months.  Currently I'm mining Eth/Sia at around 1.5 Eth/day and 6000 Sia/day.  Sia pretty much pays for the power, so the $20 (CAD) per day with my nine GPUs is doing well enough.

Came across info the other day on Xmr for the first time -- the principles of design intrigue me and if it were reasonably profitable it would potentially be something I would mine a little more seriously.  So yesterday for a simple trial I set up the minergate GUI and also the minergate CLI and found that the performance was fairly poor on the mining rigs, and it was hitting the GPU performance of the Claymore dual mining (naturally enough, that was not unexpected.)  So I've been running it CPU-only on a couple or three boxes off and on for the past 24 hours and I've found the hashrate of around 130 h/s to be very low and probably is not even paying for the additional power consumption on the CPUs.

So my question is general: Is there a way to GPU/CPU mine this coin in a way that is profitable, or at least relatively profitable as compared to Eth and Etc?  What kind of hashrate would I need to do about $15-$20 USD per day?  To achieve that kind of hashrate, what kind of hardware would be recommended and what kind of power consumption would a person be looking at?  I know these are general questions, but I'm curious what miners are doing with this coin -- how they are setting up to make it profitable...?

Thank you so much if anyone can answer or point me in the direction of materials that might answer these questions.

Here's the link for Monero mining thread, don't waste time with Minergate, they give easy mining setup but crappy performance, if you want to mine XMR, best advice you'll find on XMR mining thread.
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/xmr-monero-mining-653467

From what I know XMR is not so profitable for GPU mining due to the low GPU/CPU performance difference - GPU hashrate = only around 3 x CPU hashrate - also CPU coins like XMR have a lot of unfair competition (IE botnets or admins of large networks that don't pay for AC and don't even have to buy the equipment). If you mine to get in XMR its easier to mine more profitable coins, then buy Moneroj. Of course if the price keeps rising at this pace then you could give it a shot with directly mining XMR, since you already have mining experience you'll figure out the best formula by yourself  Wink

The next major resistance is ATH (0.011) if we get there.
After that probably it is free fly since only real daredevils (besides miners) will sell as nobody knows how high this will fly. If the Darknet market people start also using (why they wouldn't) their demand might bring Monero to 100 usd each, even higher depending on how low you guys are gonna sell your coins to them.
Mine are not for sale before 100 usd, and only like 10-50 XMR so that I can buy a few gold coins just for fun.  Grin

So fuck it I should just go all in right now then and make a score of a lifetime.

All in is a risky move but sometimes it pays off.

The recent rise of Monero to 5's is in the very same time as this vid was publishded...

With 150 views its a joke.

But I have seen people go all in and become richer then they could have imagined.

I just bought a few hundred more.

In order to make money sometimes you need to take risks I guess.
If Monero goes viral indeed the current price is just peanuts compared with the potential value.

Talking about videos. Maybe this one will be one of best investment video advise ever. In October 2015 Monero was worth 40 cents.

A video worth watching again of American Pegasus talking about the price of Monero: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEzNXzZy8e4

Very solid advice and a nice video. Thank you for sharing it.

He has not connected the dots at all between the blocksize debate in Bitcoin and Monero, while mentioning both in the same video.

Yes that video with its totally crazy 150 views is the reason Monero pumped.

I don't like him, his videos or his old webcam from 2004. And you can't change my mind with your pathetic shilling attempts trying to make us believe he is somehow responsible for this rise in price. Get outta here..

4,000 BTC volume and climbing. Is that a record?
March 20th saw 680000 xmr move on poloniex at 0036, so yeah.  New high volume.

Big move up on strong volume... Can it get more bullish?

I don't see XMR borrowing demand.  Probably needs some sign of weakness to attract short interest.

I found February 13th 2016, with 1241777 XMR traded as a highest volume. But i think we will beat this today. in BTC is already highest volume.

Is now a good time to buy XMR or do you guys think it will come down some and offer a better entry.

I suggest you seek professional financial advice from someone licensed to do such a thing.

With all the experience on this thread I thought that's what I was doing.
 Wink

Picked up a few k though. Hope it pays off.

Experienced != Legally Licensed to give financial advice.

I've always thought the whole point of crypto was to avoid those ignorant scam artists legally licensed to give financial advice.
To whit...

All of you guys rock. Now I know why this coin has survived so long. It's gotta be the strong community.

Should I buy more today Huh

I want to but I don't want to over extend myself.

I think 5 MILLI SAT is very possible this year - if AlphaBay does follow and other markets.

mega-satoshi, or bit-cents, I think you mean.  And I would agree, contingent upon actual end-user uptake.  Merely having the option available does not constitute actual use.  If XMR takes 5-10% of the DNM monetary load, 0.05BTC is quite achievable this year.  That would be a relatively rapid adoption scenario, however.  Vendors really don't want to support multiple currencies, and deal with pre-release software in the state of Hydrogen Helix today.  For that reason, I think it is a lesser probability scenario.  I would estimate that it will take about a year to get to that level.  The only thing likely to accelerate the schedule is increasing AML/KYC restrictions and block-chain analysis by both exchange sites and LEOs.

Good place to store / hide your wealth if you are a big time vendor / also dont forget now XMR is on many vendors radars. It has also gained reputation due to Oasis and AlphaBay looking into it.
I just read about Oasis accepting XMR soon so thought I'd come back and check out this thread again.
I've always had my eye on monero and thought it as one of the much better alt coins out, congratulations on that, keep up the good work guys!
