I think things will get interesting when XMR starts to have a strong support at ATH... That's pretty much a launch for a bull market (breaking previous ATH is needed for a legitimate long term bull market). If that's done, nobody really knows how high Monero will end up eventually, and it will attract also people outside to start buying coins with fiat.

A short squeeze now would probably take us to 004 in minutes.  Won't happen though, because it would be against the interest of our large accumulator.  The offer of 100, then 500 BTC was an attempt to lure liquidity.  Probably te is converting a few hundreds of BTC to XMR.  If a squeeze started (identified by parabolic movement) te would be well advised to sell some at a gain, and perhaps add an accumulation wall.  (Although any whale competitor might take the wall, so that is risky - you don't want to end up competing and chasing price up.) Getting low prices by crashing the coin with a short squeeze and panic selling would do long-term damage to the coin.  If you are hedging your BTC, you definitely do not want that.  Our whale has demonstrated strong risk aversion by making large open bids quite deep in the book.

Most likely there is one person who is willing to take a week or two to convert 300-500 BTC.    By adding green bars and subtracting red bars you get a rough estimate of their progress.  If the resulting price momentum captures a lot of little fish in the whale's wake, we will get more BTC flowing in, maybe doubling the fuel for the rise.  I would guess this ends after 1000 BTC net imbalance is accommodated by XMR coming into the exchange.  If you had access to poloniex data you could pin the ending price within a ~5% range.

OTOH if the whale is shorting ETH right now, their fuel supply might be growing.

Lending rates (to short) up to 0.2% now.

I was able to lend for 0.900 % a decent stash of Moneros. Interests are accumulating like crazy.  Roll Eyes
i tried early in the day with small chuncks at 0.8998, 0.9480 and 1.9%.
all were taken, the 1.9% is now closed but the two others are still in progress. funny!

Yes I wonder who the heck is taking the risk to short XMR at these levels. I hope there will be some market makers also at spot + 20 % to give liquidity in case of margin calls. The good thing however is that the margin call is only partial usually. For instance, if your collateral is worth of 19 %, then the margin call sells as many coins as the needed to get to the minimum level (it doesn't close the whole position immediately - only the part that is below the minimum level).

Remember, XMR is the only other altcoin that you can short to buy other alts.  The XMR volume is higher than what you see in xmr/btc market because u need to add in the volume from all the XMR/ALT pairs.

I wish I loan out a bit higher at least I got a good amount loaned at 0.01 and it seems kind of insane to be short. I don't know how I could sleep at night if I had a short order in xmr!

My node runs the same way every time I need to restart it.  Although it hasn't happened in a while there were times that it did not show on that map after restarting.

My node is up but not on the map :/

Mine doesn't show since  0.9.2 update, but status shows all good.

When your node does not show up (anymore) on the map, your port 18080 is not open for outgoing connections (and not really being a supporting node!). Maybe you rebooted and the firewall rule is not saved (I actually still need to figure out how to do so). As well Monerohash.com only updates once an hour.

From the excellent guide by Sadam how to add the firewall rule:
Code:
sudo iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 18080 -j ACCEPT

In Linux you can check whether the above rule is active by typing: sudo iptables -L
Type 'status' in bitmonerod to verify if you have any outgoing connections (eg 8+14 connections).

I am speculating, but the amount of nodes is increasing over the last few days. Are people firing up extra 0.9.2 nodes just to make sure we will have a smooth hardfork? Thanks to luigi1111 this node runs another whole month.

- Nodes: https://monerohash.com/nodes-distribution.html
- Countdown timer: http://myrcraft.com/xmr.html

Whoa, 200 nodes! That is the highest number I have ever seen (hopefully not just cold storage that gets unfrozen..).

Interestingly Spain, Portugal and Italy don't have a single node. Still some ground in Europe to cover I guess.

May be stating the obvious but it looks to me like as/if/when eth cracks the savy people looking to hedge against bitcoin are trying to edge into monero.

I'm tempted to sell as it seems loan rates explode right before corrections but there's not that much room in this market cap and supply for the newly created eth millionaires looking to hedge.  Could be a bad week for a Monero shorter.

Eth goes up and eth owners have more money to put in.  Eth goes down they become more desperate to hedge.
