It is a great pity that I did not pay attention to this coin before. Now it is already very expensive for short-term investments. So I'm waiting for the right time to buy a coin for long-term storage

In regards to BTC, I believe, at least for now, that BTC is essential as the backbone of the cryptosphere, not only because of the trading pairs but also because of the general sentiment which is important. All the people who want BTC to fail at this moment are delusional thinking that their alt coin of choice would increase in value. Mainstream sentiment would be destroyed.

I completely agree. But I don't think anyone is saying they want btc to fail. Just that they think it will. Very different thing. And sentiment will recover in time. This whole sector is probably going to behave a lot like the dotcoms. It's wildly overbought because people are excited about technology that is indeed revolutionary just like people overbought tech stocks because the internet was so revolutionary. But the amazons and apples are already here, they will survive the correction and be MUCH bigger after just like amazon and apple are now after the dotcom crash. Also if i'm right and we are going to see our own dotcom crash and recovery, a recovery with bitcoin leading the charge will be a more centralized world than one without. It could be better in the long long run for bitcoin to actually die. For decentralization's sake.

Well, actually the BCH crowd wants BTC to fail, and their actions are imo quite toxic and probably responsible for the dip at the moment. Also, quite a few people at the /r/CryptoCurrency reddit, foolishly believing that BTC is holding the success of their favourite alt back.

Which currency do you think could replace Bitcoin? Monero is better in every regard but I feel that once atomic swaps are here Monero would actually benefit even more from a non-private currency like BTC in the sense that it would make it even more  resistent.

Why should it replace bitcoin? The reason why I have monero is not my expectation about bitcoin replacement. People are getting confused when all are concentrated on the bitcoin replacement idea.

We don't need it. We can hold monero just we like the concept.

Also, I still think BTC has a lot going for it with all the upcoming upgrades, and always thought that BTC and Monero have and can in the future have a great symbiotic relationship, like gold and cash.

To quote smooth:

Quote
I am not trying to be extra callous, but I am just so tired of hearing how Monero will still be going 20 years from now.

It may, it may not. I'm on record saying many times that it will probably fail and become worthless. Of all the coins around, it is in a small group that has the best chance to be around in 20 years (Bitcoin obviously far eclipses all the rest, and not only because of its size)

Although, he might have updated his opinion on this matter.

This is also quite interesting:

With all this said, I think that Monero is far more undervalued than any other crypto, and believe that 0.1BTC is a realistic mid term prediction.

YAY, Coinbase fuked me this time instead of polo! For the first time I sold on a high (instead of holding and watching the process repeat) and tried to cash out when BTC was still at !7k and friggin Coin base wouldn't let me sell and now BTC is dumped and I'm stuck with it. Luckily I didn't have that much. These exchanges are driving me nuts, even when you get it right they screw you.
Did you use the coinbase wallet or the gdax exchange?

Been using the coinbase to exchange to USD for years it was saying I had reached my cap when I wasn't even close. I think they are forcing giving up ID's now under the guise of reaching withdrawal limit. Fuckers. I've never used Gdax and never setup a vault, I think you need to provide ID for the Vault and then you can store USD there but I'm not really sure on that score.
It's been a few years since I used the Coinbase in-wallet purchasing or selling.  They used to charge 1% on buys.  Now I only use gdax.  It's been a while since I did any buying.  Now I take profits, mostly.
You can buy coin (btc, ltc, eth, bch) on gdax.com, which is the coinbase exchange.  If you send money by ach from your bank and take advantage of the fact that gdax doesn't charge a fee on limit orders (zero maker fee), you can buy btc without paying any fees at all.  Of course, price on gdax tends to be a little higher than on other exchanges.
Last time I asked for a withdrawal limit increase they gave it to me.  Now I'm asking for another increase LOL.

By the way, anybody here trade the ltc/xmr pair on polo?

So much adoration for this coin. There is something about its anonymity. Vastly spread in south America. If the technology improves and XMR becomes more comfortable (light wallet…) the price will probably rise. 307$ value right now (include dip).

XMR.to integrated into Monerujo wallet in beta testing.  From what I've read, if you enter BTC address in the send to field of the XMR wallet, it automates the XMR.to process seamlessly.  Holy @#^# Batman!  Huge.  Just huge.  Especially given that XMR.to covers the BTC fees.

Why are the biggest exchanges like Bitfinex en Coinbase so shady , they are run by fraudsters nobody should use them.

Monero is the state of the art in money.  Nothing better expresses the qualities of money better than Monero.  After Bitcoin has gone to zero for its political deadlock and unsuitability for use, Monero will still be money.  So yeah, but not for long: By the time it passes 0.1 BTC it will be poised to rapidly surpass 1.0 BTC, then eventually 10BTC, 100BTC and perhaps even 1000BTC, depending on whether or not a settlements network can be salvaged from the ashes of Bitcoin.

That is both a bold and somewhat frightening prediction.

I am curious of peoples views of the emerging blocksize/fee issues bitcoin is facing, as well as the attacks on BTC currently - particularly in regards to Monero value, both from a speculative investment perspective as well as a project.

My own views here are just forming.. and frankly I am a bit adrift.  Not sure where I see things going...

IF BTC can fix its shit (and I don't mean fix, just triage) soonTM, it has potential to hold and increase value.  Mostly looks like BTC hodlers huddle under the covers, waiting for mommy to turn the lights on though, and as far as development, um... Corporate Coin, Corporate Wars.  Personally, I saw what was being written on the wall in 2013/14, and found Monero almost immediately (thanks aminorex, for the heads up) because I was already looking for it. By 2015 I had become a maximalist.  There have been some hurdles, but every day, my reasoning is reinforced.  Bitcoin is a dead horse.  Sorcery may ensue, but even a BTC resurrection won't take away from XMR going places, and faster than most will be able to comprehend.  10-1000x BTC?  That would require a very sad outcome for myspace BTC.  There is a LOT of money at stake now, so maybe it will be made to live and grow, but it will never be all that we once thought it was, or wanted it to be:  Monero.  So far, so good.
