TLDR dash is shit, masternodes roll over for anyone and share their log files, cross referencing 2 or 3 log file sources along with the low liquidity may allow transactions to be unpicked

Curious - did you sell BTC, or buy BCH to achieve this (50:50 value)?  Or do you mean you have quantity x BTC and quantity x BCH, as distributed(85:15-ish value currently)? Reasoning?

All percentages there are expressed as the current Bitcoin BTC Value of the Alt coin, i.e. so if total portfolio value is 10 BTC then "40%" would be 4 BTC worth of Monero, 15% would be 1.5 BTC worth of BCH, etc.

The BTC/BCH situation is: actually MOST of the BCH is what I got "free" from the August 1st fork, but yes I did "flip" a portion (some BTC and some Dash, maybe some MaidSafe too, I forget) into getting more BCH a couple times since the fork, when the ratio was higher like 10 to 1 at first, and then again when it was like 5 or 6 to 1, I think it was.

So overall -- now that the BCH price has been reasonably stable around $600 to the BTC price reasonably stable around $4600... crunching the numbers yesterday, my total of each has now just happened to land on 50-50, i.e. the BCH (valued in BTC) is worth just about what the remaining BTC is at... so 50-50.

I'm fine with this 'cuz it means I'm preserving my BTC in BTC value, so far, if nothing else changes (ha!) but if the Bitcoin Cash people are right, and BTC will end up in a Death Spiral then my "new bitcoins" stash will be multiplied several times... only at risk of a *portion* of my starting BTC stash IF the SegWit people are right and Bitcoin Cash is the one that eventually withers away and dies.

Who knows WTF will happen?  I certainly don't, LOL, so this seems a reasonable hedge position to me, for the time being, again until something ELSE changes.

P.S.

Nice... so "good luck with all THAT" to the Dashers, LOL.  And, since I just clearly stated publicly that I've dumped all the Dash I used to have, of course in order to fully do their job properly, any of our Friendly Neighborhood Federal Agents reading this will now certainly make sure that my name is REMOVED from this wonderful watchlist... right?  Right?  Hmm... Cheesy

The price seems to have stabilised a bit between 0.025 and 0.027, do you think this is because the new wallet version is now out and speculation as curtailed a bit? I'm pretty happy with the current pricing point either way

Everything is in sideways mode right now.  Polo volume is zip across the board.

Well that escalated quickly.

You're not kidding.

0.0265 XBT was the 2016 high for XMR/XBT. It is proving to be a critical support and resistance point.

So speaking of other coins, I'm interested to hear what some of you think about the Agoras project. It seems to be very ambitious project which is in pre alpha since 2015 and based on a new programming language called Tau Chain (which is actually what is being developed for such a long time).

This is the announcement: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/tau-chain-and-agoras-official-thread-generalized-p2p-network-950309

And an interview with the dev: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFmaX-oumNw

"Ontologies are expressed in RDF language family (Resource Description Framework), or simply JSON-LD.
We propose a software client that stores an ontology of local rules, and determines its actions using a Reasoner. Reasoners are tools that infer new rules or conclusions given old ones. They do it intelligently - using pure logical reasoning, and they also supply proofs for their results. Tauchain node is therefore an intelligent agent able to communicate with other agents, at the very same language they're written with, which is quite human-readable."

So this project goes in the direction of AI and perhaps comparable to the Wolfram Alpha project.

Also notable is that the dev, a guy called Ohad, and the originator of the idea, HunterMinerCrafter, have split up and are working on their own versions of Tauchain.

Edit: Sorry if this too much OT. Was just curious to know what some of the brightest minds on this forum think about this project. OP can go ahead and delete this post if too much OT.

I checked this out when it was first announced and followed the conversation between Ohad and HunterMinerCrafter and found Ohad to be competant but overreaching in his goals. HunterMinerCrafter is just brilliant IMO. Do you have a link to his project? Ohad is more of a programmer while HunterMinerCrafter is a cutting edge mathematician I believe. I do not see that project ever coming to fruition but wish Ohad the best as he's put a massive amount of time in effort into a lofty goal. I forgot the original name of the project but it changed direction after HunterMinerCrafter became involved and brought OHAD up to speed on some very deep subjects. You should go and read the original thread.

Haha   'Monero did not respond to CNBC's request for comment'  LOL

I asked the rain this morning if it would stop, and it didn't respond either.  I wonder what's going on Huh

What does that even mean? They tried to talk to monero. Like a monero? The private key that its on? A copy of the block chain? Anyone who ever made a commit on github? These people are so out of their league. And I don't know about you guys but I always make sure its dark in my room when ever I use the dark web.

Also what does it say about their audience how slow............... they think............... their audience................ reads?

This was quite amusing  Cheesy Thanks for the share mnemonicsoup.

P.S. {Edit} In case anyone's interested (if it's relevant) my overall crypto portfolio balance as of now after I dumped the Dash is: 48% XMR, 30% BTC/BCH (50-50, so 15% of each), 10% ETH, 6% LTC, 4% MAID, and 2% "everything else" which includes FCT, DCR, ETC, OMG, DOGE, BCN, PLR, and NVST... plus maybe 1 or 2 others that I've forgotten about that are on some obscure printed paper wallet I've stuck in a drawer somewhere, LOL)

Hmm... I watched the video but, WTF... what's supposed to be the point of that for CNBC viewers, really?  It's basically just an insult against Monero, isn't it?

LOL I suppose this is just the beginning of the "then they fight you" phase before "then you win"... but, whatever.  I thought the video wasn't really even informative for new people coming to the topic, didn't include any really useful info, no link or site for more details, nothing much but just an insult "oh this is money for criminals" LOL

Anyhoo... whatev's I guess

Thanks to all for replies in past couple pages re: my question about other interesting coins.

Sorry if it veered us off-topic too much, mods plz delete if you think so... my bad.

Thanks also for the replies about Dash(LOL)... many good posts summed up the Dash/XMR "fighting" situation very succinctly.  Good stuff.

Finally FWIW I decided to just keep the money from Dash in Monero after all: there's just too much GOOD STUFF coming soon to XMR-World and I really can't see any better place to park it, seriously!  I've probably gotten in way too "heavy" in Monero on my overall portfolio balance, but dammit: what the hell. Sometimes in life you gotta put your foot down and really believe in what you believe in, right?  (Hope so anyway...)

Cheesy

This is when you know the person who made the video has no clue what Monero is.
Kind of funny actually.
Aside from that mistake they summed it up well.  Though they also said transactions don't share the senders 'name'.  Also a relief. Wink

Binaries for CLI or Command Line Interface.

"The GUI binaries are forthcoming and their download links will be appended once they are finalized."

I think we will also see GUI out of Beta when this happens.
