What is the point of having Monero on coinbase?

Coinbase has some six million accounts - people who are happy having online wallets and trust them to be secure. Coinbase - much like they did/do with Ethereum - would actively market Monero to its existing customers. They would, in effect, do the marketing job for us. That could be huge.

 - Coinbase have publicly stated that they would add new currencies this year.
 - Fluffy was invited to give a presentation there earlier this year. By all accounts it was well received.
 - The Coinbase product manager recently published a beginner's guide to Monero, just as she did for Ethereum a few weeks ago. This was written in conjunction with Coinbase engineers. Coincidence? Possibly, but unlikely.
 - The Director of Engineering - Charlie Lee - at Coinbase has publicly stated he thinks Dash is a scam.

So if Coinbase are gong to add a new currency and if it's not Dash, what's left? Given the (admittedly few) pointers, I would suggest Monero is a good bet.

It is neither illegal to own, buy or sell Monero. If Coinbase have a couple more hurdles to jump selling Monero than they would otherwise have selling another currency, then so be it. It's not a big deal for them. My money is on Coinbase offering Monero in the not-too-distant future.

Edit: Just noticed that Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase, tweeted the Guide to Monero referenced above. If that isn't a recommendation, what is?

Where moner start guide?

Hi! I am intersted at Monero. I have an idea for it. What about creating a p2p lending platform based on monero?
P.S. Peer-to-peer lending, sometimes abbreviated P2P lending, is the practice of lending money to individuals or businesses through online services that match lenders directly with borrowers.

Would Monero need a multisig for this?

you need to understand that Monero is still quite at basics compared to Bitcoin. But eventually anything will be possible.

Or Dark is just so much easier to pump. Few big hands and all the coins stuck in masternodes etc etc.

Yup - hype up demand, restrict supply and even buy some to support it?

Easy-peasy if you're centrally controlled.

I just read that AlphaBay is now accepting Ethereum as a coin. I think that this won't make XMR's life easier. Especially not when all are in the hype of ETH.

Sad that XMR couldn't really use the momentum. But hey it has always a positive side. We probably can rebuy at 0.0080 again soon Smiley I hope so very much. But staying at this is also ok or going higher...but I am happy sold at ATH...always found a greater fool Cheesy

I know people like you.
They tend to brag how they bought their coins on the absolute floor and sold all out at the very peak to the "greater fool".

I have no clue where it goes from here... Still the ATH is not even touched so kinda bearish sentiment here but I am hopeful that my bearishness turns to the euphoria.
Bear in mind, Dark coin cost yesterday 0.12 btc or so and a while ago you were able to convert Moneros to Dark coins at the ratio of 1:1.
If I am not mistaken, Roger Ver is behind the Dark coin pump and he has told according to Bitcoin Meister that he also likes Monero so perhaps Monero is the next coin that will get the pump, what do you think?

Ver is supportive of both XMR and Dark Coin and I imagine he has a separate rationale for each coin. XMR has solid tech, a fair launch and a community that is willing to accept the risks of hard forks to stay at the cutting edge of technology in the short term. Dark Coin lacks the tech and fair launch but has marketing, more wallets and typical altcoin low volume so it can offer inexpensive fees.

https://forum.bitcoin.com/monero/monero-price-speculation-thread-t10274.html#p29049

Ver hasn't given up on BTC and is at this point using Dash to try to leverage his vision for growth. I'm very dubious that it'll result in any sort of long term significant gains for Dash usage, which has literally never seen any increased usage prior to February of this year when the pump started. https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/transactions-dash.html

Yes.. The adoption of Dash has not increased in line with the price.

Some fuel for  the price increase has been supplied by closing short positions. They are ultimately the 'greater fool' buyers, not because they are wrong, but because they have run out of choices on margin. Short sellers are often right, but they cannot afford to hold positions long enough.

Also, the pump was well timed to coincide with the discussion of BTC Fork.

What are the transaction fees for a Monero tx as of today?

As the blocksize limit is adaptative, can we say that these fees will stay forever more or less the same, regardless of the number of tx/day on Monero?

as far as i know they are going down to a lower average, when the overworked fee/blocksize algorithm is activated in the April 15 HF.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/609g47/why_monero_which_uses_a_dynamic_block_size_still/
Thanks.

Following your link, I have found the current fee algorithm:
fee = (R/R0) * (M0/M) * F0

R: base reward

R0: reference base reward (10 monero)

M: block size limit

M0: minimum block size limit (60000)

F0: 0.002 monero
https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/2531/how-does-the-dynamic-fee-calculation-work

Where can we find the one which will be activated on April 15?

Also is it correct to say that there is no fee market since it's an algorithm which decides what are the transaction fees?

https://github.com/JollyMort/monero-research/blob/master/Monero%20Dynamic%20Block%20Size%20and%20Dynamic%20Minimum%20Fee/Monero%20Dynamic%20Block%20Size%20and%20Dynamic%20Minimum%20Fee%20-%20DRAFT.md

I think this is the link you are looking for. I only know that there is no use for a fee market after the initial emission because of the tail emission so blocksizes/fee keep adaptive, unlike BTC in its current state.

God save Aminorex!

I had recently read another interesting article about this: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-03-18/signs-silicon-valley-tech-bubble-about-burst

What effect would the bursting of the silicon valley tech bubble have on crypto? On the one hand money could flee into crypto, on the other hand trust in fintech could take a hit...

The facts seems solid, that bubble is about to burst. But crypto is here to stay and grow. And grow. And take the whole economy in his shoulders. Maybe it take a hit on the burst, maybe not. I say not.

Busy lately.

Nice price ramp.  Lagging dash and zec right now, but that can't last forever.  Just wish we had better software.  I won't have time to put into it until late April, realistically.

BTC fork fears should create some good btc accumulation opportunities.  Whether they can offer a levered entry into XMR, is hard to predict, however.

As sure a sign as any that things are on the UP... Wink

Aminorex, a hearty welcome back to this thread!

I've seen a few of your comments on ZeroHedge over the last months (bringing the light of Monero Truth to folks there often in bitcoin articles) so we knew you were okay and still out there, but your informed presence here has been sorely missed.  Good to see you back  Grin

Monero is usually in a much steadier price range - far more practical.  And er... Privacy is a feature.

There is no such thing as the fight for the ONE crypto. The future will hold many cryptos just like different currencies.

XMR has enjoyed plenty of momentum, within the last two weeks the price has gone up almost 100%. In November the price was at 4$ and now it's at 20$. This pace and growth rate is perfect.
