Edit: Brain wasn't working, now is.

Edit 2: GUI question: Can I log in with my mnemonic key for the purpose of verifying that it was written correctly?

You can use the "Restore from 25 word mnemonic seed" option in the Wizard to verify you wrote down your seed correctly.

The Monero shills won 2016, had you listened to trolls instead and stayed out of the coin you missed the big gains. Congratulations hodlers and community.

This are only top coins by capitalisation. I would love to see a bit wider group of coins. At least 1B+ or even less, since coins that emerged in 2016 cant count here.

I don't understand what you are talking about, did you commented only because of the avatar/sign spam campaign you are engaged?

But if you mean state coins Bitcoin crushed every single one of them, and Monero crushed every other coin so Monero is the indisputable winner, trolls and haters won't point that out its left to us.

lol no, let me rephrase it.

In that table are only top not know how many coins. something like top15 by market capitalisation.

I would like to see at least top100 or at least the ones with 1 million marketcap ( i now see i made mistake and wrote B as a billion here by mistake).

With more coins, Monero is not that lonely as one of most profitable coins in 2016.

Difference is try to exit those other ones even with a decent average position as average holder... not possible

Yes is understandable. Rare coins have such volume as Monero. But still. I decided to make a  list of coins that was traded on Poloniex from 1st January to now and have right now more then $500k market cap.  Got 46 such. There will be for sure some silly coins there, but for sure will give more perspective what happened in 2016.

Edit: Page two. Turing completeness for the stated use cases is what made me exit eth. It was always going to be its achilles heel. From malicious through to badly written scrypts a myriad of possibilities to cause harm. The problem to solve is at a more abstract level and doesn't require low level capability so to speak. Like giving C to a BI analyst when what he needed was R. Agreed on the hardened toolbox with clear business rules.

Edit: great. But: Wrong coin support

I did not read but went to the webpage.
Basically it appeared to be (at first glance without any deeper research) to be a cryptocurrency that has ebay-type of selling platform.
So nothing new, if you have more understanding into syscoin, please proof me wrong.

It is great to have a marketplace, crypto need them but why one need to create a new currency for a marketplace?
Read the whitepaper and you will know better. I wrote it.
Whitepaper.syscoin.org.

Its linked to monero in a way in the future shhh btw

XRM seem sto be the darling of traders presently and I think it deserves it, I can see the price hitting parity with Zcash soon, if the developer can sustain the good work.

Is that how it really is? The price depends only on how the developers do? What about adoption? What about the growing or declining use in the darknet market places? Also community support really matters.

Thinking that it all depends on the developers is very naive.

You are right, they are not supposed to be there. They not only practice stealing (gezel) but even worse: they ridicule the name of the G-d (chilul haShem) which is even worse than stealing. To minimize sins they should hide their Jewishness in places like these.
Of course even better it is if they start acting like real kosher Jews and becoming an example to the rest of the world to make this world at least a little bit better place to live in.

I don't judge but I detest hypocrites, especially if they are pushing religion.

Resistance is crumbling, wish I had been able to acquire more last few months.
I've heard that it is futile anyway.

LOL, Suppression is really trying to hold 0.01370000

137 down from 100btc to 10. Wink

for you noobs this is a common shakeout accumulation technique where a whale is dumping into his own bids to keep bid side down while trying to hold a sell wall and accumulate everything that weak hands throw below that wall.

resistance shattered maybe he got his full?

extremely strong point of supply around 0.0187

May correct a bit, this should take at least few days before we clear it if we do. If we do that quicker, this is a huge sign that bulls are clearly stronger than bears.

Why? Is there some kind of sell wall waiting?

there is likely some people taking profits allready

I stopped posting any charts in bitcointalk but i'll do it since you were nice to me few months ago.

To make the chart clearer, disreguard any drawing except the black line around 0.0147 and the red circle.

Basically, look at the chart above, and look at the price action around 0.0147 (i have no clue why i wrote 0.0187, maybe because i am sick). Lot's of people bought first in end of august, maybe some of them sold at the top, but I don't believe people buying here is the "smart money", thus they are probably the one, with people wanting to get some xmr before it goes to the "moon", that massively bought at that price level until the end of october, until we finally broke that support and those guys were left bagholder.

Now, after 3 months and a rather nice BTC rally, those guy that have bagholded XMR and suffered pain just want to break even, that's why we will probably not be able to close above that point today, and probably in the very short term, since we need to get rid of that active supply. Nonetheless, I learned from past trading experience with XMR that resistance may just be destroyed, and if this is the case, for the resistance we are speaking about, it is extremely bullish as this is a resistance that can be drawn on a weekly chart (the longer the timeframe, the bigger the importance of patterns, supports and resistance). anyway, we'll see what happens, no crystal balls, just trying to extrapolate information endogeneous to price.

that was as objective as possible, but at the end you can see some hint on my personal sentiment about XMR valuation Grin.

hey guys,

my wallet is nearly finished with syncing and about 2 hours ago i sent 1 xmr to my wallet from poloniex. still not received ... how long should it take?

It take like 10 minutes for coins to arrive in your wallet. But to see them you need to synce your bluckchain to most recent. So if you sent coins 2 hours ago, you need to sync it to where bloc chain was 2h ago.

About blockchain syncing, just let it sync over night. it took me 2 nights. it was almost 3 years of transactions so is normally takes long since I dont have SSD hard drive. From now on it will sync really fast.

When will governments start to put pressure on monero? Is it just too small and not taken serious yet?

I've thought about this quite a bit in the past, but I can't really get my head around a solid answer for one primary reason.

Granted, it's a foregone conclusion that "governments" will WANT to "put pressure" on any competitive currency that they feel is excessively out of their control be it bitcoin or monero or zcash or whatever.

But in the case of XMR how exactly would this pressure work?  Precisely BECAUSE it's anonymous, untraceable, un-linkable etc there is more than enough plausible deniability that someone IS NOT EVEN USING IT at all, already, right from the start... isn't there?

So, basically, if the PTB tried to "ban Monero" and everyone just SAYS, "Oh, yeah, I hate that coin!  I never use it!  That's only for criminals!"

But all the while, just the same, IF everyone is simply going ahead and USING it anyway?  If nobody can *prove* that any transactions or coins or anything actually *belongs* to anyone in particular, what can be done about it anyway?

Isn't it really this simple or what am I missing about how "banning" something that's fundamentally "anonymous" really can never work?

A ban is not the concern. There are much smarter methods governments can use to attack the currency. One would be to place vocal "contributors" onto the scene who will build reputation over time but ultimately seek to undermine the project.

This can be as simple as pushing to implement new crypto features before they're fully vetted or reviewed, or even having "trusted" personalities FUD/exit the project en masse.

That's always been this project's goal, to catch up with Zcash...

LOL better point out to newbies that this is /sarc   heheh

I'd wager that in the not too distant future we won't see a "catch up" but rather an inversion, i.e. Monero taking position of ZCash $50+ price now and ZCash coming down to sit at Monero's recent $5-$7 price range.

Don't forget to wave bye-bye as we pass each other in the middle, LOL
