The longest known Cunningham Chain has k=17.

So far the highest found by primecoin are 9 long in blocks 116, 1592, and 2044.

The distribution is skewed towards chains of 7 primes as the difficulty started at 7. I'm expecting difficulty >8 within 4 days and >9 by the end of the month. In time we will start to see some significantly long chains, but I can't see this project delivering chains longer than 12 that match the hash of the prime blockchain for another year at least.

Has anybody else tried messing with the nMaxSieveSize variable?
By chopping a zero off of it, I seemed to be able to get almost a 5x increase in pps. I know that reducing the sieve size would effectively reduce the amount of numbers checked for each run of the sieve and then reduce the likelyhood of finding a block, but is pps more important than search size?

Wait what? Has the blockchain been reset? And if so, does that mean that my previous mining proceeds will not be counted?

Do I have to redownload the client now, or restart it, or anything like that? This would explain why my previous two blocks only 3 hours apart were the only ones and for roughly 22 hours I did not get any other blocks.

My rack is running at a warm 80-70 celcius.

OK everybody I find the pattern: whenever I paid attention to how the miners were working they don't find anything. When I went to lunch, dinner, sleep they found coins.  Wink
In concur, this is how it always work.

Unfortunately hardware follows the same pattern for failing...

Now it's hovering around 45 primespersec.

I guess it was getting warmed up. I have a i7-2600

I'm gonna leave it running overnight with a fan so the temps don't go above 76C.

Hopefully it'll be worth the effort.

I am running mine with less then all cores to keep temps down:  'setgenerate true 3'

Does anyone know where in the code (or can translate to layman English) which hardware can actually mine or is restricted from mining?
What I mean is: Some people having issues with EC2 nodes. My old/free CR-48 will not get any primespersec at all. My two desktops work fine. Etc, etc.
Is there some prerequisite to have >0 primespersec within the code that could be referenced so I don't waste time compiling on old hardware only to not have it mine?

I'm almost sure that there is no such thing as hardware black (or white) list. You may be getting 0 primespersec becuase your hard is too slow.

Around how many blocks per day can you get with 15 primespersec?

Could be 0, could be 5, honestly no way of giving you a straight answer. It's not an exact measurement.

I haven't gotten any blocks in 4 hours. The diff hasn't changed, so I am assuming that people who have optimized their miners are getting the lion's share. I don't know much about miner optimization, but I am going to start poking at the code to see how these optimizations could be made because I suddenly have motivation! LukeJr, do you have any hints for people getting started on where to look or what to look for?  Are you running Linux?

Actually, it seems that the diff increases with every block mined.  If you list you transactions, you will notice that the diff increased between every block you have mined.

Yeah, but it started at 7, and now it's at 7.2, 1.2 days later. However, in my experience, the ability to mine the coin has gone down significantly. I was finding about a block an hour, and now it's been over 4 hours with nothing. I could have been extremely lucky earlier, but I would place my money on the assumption that at least a few people have figured out how to mine this in a more efficient manner.

Well, you might be right.  I have to admit that, right now, I don't really know how much harder a difficulty of 7.2 is than a 7.0.  Difficulty is very different for this coin, I think.

"Ignorance never settles a question."
Going by this rate, this would value Sunny Kings idea at $15,000.
For two days of coins, it's pretty high, no?
Of course I understand it's low for miners who actually would prefer to keep their coins at that price - especially since it required time to understand and set up.

That seems really, really, really low. You've got a very low production rate of XPMs
It's not especially low. It's still at 19 coins per block, from a starting 20.

Remember it's not the coins that matter, it's the idea and the network that has value. The idea of a potentially scientifically valuable output is new, and potentially valuable.
everyone has their own opinion, remember, people out their think coins like bottlecaps and megacoin etc.... are innovative and valuable...
