I started mining last night on 2 of my 4 physical cores, and have gotten 40xpm so far from two blocks. I've gotten a few other people on board as well IRL. I really like the fact that this cryptocurrency provides public proof of work, and the PoW is useful data.

"There are a few who seek primes just for the money. There are prizes for the first prover ten-million digit prime ($100000), the first hundred-million digit prime ($150000), and the first billion digit prime ($250000)."

primecoin is not designed to find the largest prime (millions of digits long).  It will not attempt to look for the ones listed in that competition.

If it was possible computationally to achieve this with Primecoin, why not? A small donation to the humble miner(s) helping to find the block...

Every block reward is placed into a new address IIUC.

What port is primecoin running on?  I need to verify that some active ports I've discovered are just the primecoin running...

I've seen Protocol.h file in Src folder and found this info:

Code:
#define PRIMECOIN_PORT   9911
#define RPC_PORT         9912

I have a question. If a block is found, which address are the coins deposited in? Is it just the first address in the book?

Did you find anything out of the ordinary with the way Primecoin was running?

I found some uncommonly opened ports opened.  I'm not a security guru, so I don't know what to make of it.  It's possible they were open before, as I don't do port scans of my machines all that often.

Do you mean 5911?  I don't see 9911 open at all...

I'll put up one Bitcoin in bounty for a CPU-miner (standalone) that will run on both windows and linux and outperform the built-in miner.
Recompile the existing one with some more optimization flags or with the ICC compiler. Tongue

Anyone compiled a win64 optimized binary yet?

I've found only 5 blocks for 24 hours: i5 2500K at 100% CPU Load - 2 blocks, i3 2100 at 75% CPU Load - 3 blocks. Luck don't correlate with computation power.

So in like 8 hours the first coins will be mature. And then the real fun begins.
